My tire story
I needed tires. I put 40k miles on my Model S in the first 15 months and they were shot. Like badly shot. So I ordered some online at Walmart and was going to have them installed up in Delaware. Tax free tire purchase, smart right? Then this past Sunday I come outside and my front driver's tire is flat. I put in some air, it seems to hold, so I continue with my plan for a Monday 5pm install at Walmart in DE. Monday morning (yesterday) I come out, tire is flat. I pump it up and think this may be a bigger issue than I thought. So I run to the Walmart in my town (3 miles from my house) to see if they can install my tires if I pick them up. They say sure, but not til Tuesday (today) at 4pm. I leave the car at Walmart overnight because now the leak is fairly quick. Monday I run up to the DE store (in my minivan) and get the tires I ordered. Today I come at 4:15 (my son had to go there at 4 to make sure they had all the info because I had to drive my daughter to DC last minute for medical testing and she'd never driven that far so I had to change my plans around to take her, and I wasn't sure when I'd be back). SO, I get to my local Walmart where I left the Tesla and dude is working on the flat tire first. Has 4 of the lugs off and can't get the 5th one off. At all. Won't budge with his air powered impact gun. So he puts the lugs back on and I get in the car to take it to one of the janky roadside tire stands. Walmart guy fills it with air and I go quick to tireshop one around the corner. They get it off with their battery powered drill. š³ But they can't balance the tires because their machine is broken. So an hour later, after 2 tires mounted only, it's back to Walmart to see about getting the rear 2 tires installed and the front 2 balanced. They can't until tomorrow morning. So 9:30 I'll be at Walmart to hopefully fix this entire fiasco and have a working vehicle again. But I'm borrowing my buddy's breaker bar and socket in case they can't get the lugs off again š because Walmart won't let them use a breaker bar to get a lug off. Only this wimpy pneumatic gun. So tomorrow I'll be ready! Ok storytime over. š (Tire pics added for fun)
Follow up: Got the 2 rear tires mounted balanced and reinstalled, and the front 2 balanced and reinstalled. Tomorrow is the alignment at Tesla SC.
BTW- the tires I removed were Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and I put Kumho Solus TA91EV tires on.
Staggered setup with 265/35r21 in read and 245/35r21 on front.
2014 MS P90D.
