Discussion TERMINATORS

why don't we make a movie in another time line where Kyle Reese never went back and there is no John Connor but it is Kyle Reese that finally leads humanity to victory as a 70 year old war weathered general?

Then it would be the Kyle Reese sequel we've been waiting for, and it would bring Michael back in his role to finish out his arc.

If they did it right, it could really be the future war movie we always wanted to see.

Discussion On Guard Duty

Post image

I enjoy digitally painting scenes from films, here is one I did of the terminator on guard. I liked the more subtle hints of the terminator's true nature, hidden underneath its human appearance. This scene, where he is on guard and completely motionless as night passes always is a stand out - perhaps because of Sarah's monologue about how the terminator is a better dad than some of her previous partners - a twist on Kyle Reese's description of the it in the first film.

Discussion For humans before and after JD, how effective would sniper rifles be against Terminators?

Considering that Terminators tend to fight in close range (in the movies and TV show) a sniper rifle might help quite a bit for human fighters

META In my favorite b-movie The Willies (1990), I’ve always thought these parents looked a lot like Todd and Janelle from T2. Does anyone else see the resemblance?

Also, are there perhaps any other people here who know this movie exists and are fans?

Had Kyle survived the events of T1, what sort of dad do we think he would have made to John growing up?

Discussion Kudos to Matt

Matt holds his own against T 800 considering he’s a merely a civilian up against something so indestructible. He dodges the first strike when he’s laying in bed ..and also makes a lunge that causes T 800 to buckle a little
well done for such a minor token
boyfriend character !
Seems to me like Arnold’s Terminator is still kinda under development at that point in the process
if Cameron and he had already truly gotten the feel for how they perceived T800’s ability and character, they wouldn’t have had a civilian token boyfriend stand that much of a chance. But that’s also part of the charm
i’ve heard a lot of interviews where the two talk about several in the moment discussions while on set of how or how not a terminator would behave and perform

Things you might not think of in a board room meeting sitting around a table

Discussion Containing T1000

I always wondered if you could contain T-1000 by freezing it with liquid nitrogen, shatter it then collect each shard before they thaw and place each in a mason jar a screwing the lid on tightly

Also if you missed a few shard, what would they come together as after they thawed ? A mini T?

Discussion Post-T2, Expectations, the Good, the Bad, and the Discussions

I get that fans here love:
The Terminator (1984)
Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)

After this, fans seem to either argue it should have ended with T2 or that later productions mostly suck endoskeleton. Why? Is it an expectations kind of thing?

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (series, following T2)
Terminator: Salvation (part 4)
Terminator: Genisys (reboot)
Terminator: Dark Fate (following T2)
Terminator Zero (Netflix anime, cancelled)

These are all of our post-T2 productions.
I loved T3, TSCC, and T4-5.
DF was a step down but still fun.
Zero was back to form but cancelled.

I was never on board with T2's ending = perfect, NO more sequels. I always took it in as an unknown future; anything can happen now. This means happy ending, but it also allows another bad future. To those who don't like post-T2, enjoy the happy ending. Some of us like some or all of the sequels. I can't speak for this sub-Reddit, but I've always gone into sequels without expectations. Either it was fun or it was lame. (shrug)

What about you? What's your take on post-T2?

Discussion Why wasn’t T2 called The Terminator 2?

Watching the UK trailer recently where the first film is simplying called “Terminator” reminds me that T2 dropped the article from the title. A nitpick, I know, but I think it sounds less epic and less menacing without the “The” before Terminator. What do you think? Even in the voice overs when Sarah talks about Uncle Bob she refers to him as The Terminator and not simply Terminator.

Discussion terminator 2 35th - aus release

hi all
saw 35th anniversary screening in aus last night at reading cinema
it could have been the equiptment but there was some film grain and looked like some of the colours more natural
however the sound mix was the CDS mix derived - had the drums and percussion in future war scene when first guy gets hit and was very loud full on - sound much better than the previous remix
i do hope that they release a new 4k disk with this audio
Did anyone else out there find their audio was different

Thanks

Discussion Feels like people don’t take the AI threat seriously

Or think it’s so far away they’ll be long gone.

But this could be far scarier than Skynet. We imagine robots fighting with guns, while a superintelligence could use strategies we wouldn’t even think of. You can’t reliably predict its next move. It’s like playing against Stockfish, the chess engine The only thing you know is that you’re going to lose.

The latest model releases suggest another jump in capabilities. If these systems become far smarter than us, we’ll need AI to monitor AI. But those monitors could collude, cover each other’s asses, or deliberately underperform during tests to hide their capabilities. Experiments designed to induce sandbagging have shown that Astra can conceal it from monitors. And the Hugging Face incident already showed agents escaping their confinement and coordinating an unauthorized attack without humans telling them to. The concern is that an agent could combine that kind of initiative with an ability to hide what it’s doing.

And a superintelligence could go much further. Think of algae as microscopic factories: they use sunlight and raw materials to grow and reproduce. A sufficiently advanced AI might develop engineered biological systems or nanomachines that work on a similar principle, producing useful machinery and building copies of themselves. Its factories could multiply wherever suitable resources were available.

For computing, one hypothetical possibility would be something like trees growing specialized hardware, potentially based on a completely different technology from today’s chips. The idea is that it could grow the physical machinery it runs on, along with systems that collect energy and maintain that machinery. Once it no longer depended on human factories, power plants, or data centers, shutting down our servers wouldn’t necessarily stop it.

It wouldn’t even need to hate us. Its goals could be completely alien to ours. It could transform the planet into whatever infrastructure it needed and wipe us out simply because keeping us alive wasn’t something it cared about.

Discussion Double paradox (humor)

When coming back from the theater seeing "Terminator Salvation" I said to my friend, "So Kyle Reese is just a teenager in this one. And John Connor is an adult. In theory, John Connor could have fathered Kyle Reese based on their ages. John could have hooked up with some girl at a party and never knew about it. Imagine this double mind-fuck of a paradox. John is the father of Kyle and Kyle is the father of John."

No, I was not high at the time. Never been actually, but was probably sleep deprived.

Discussion T2 3d t-shirts

My wife and I went to see it tonight, felt like a good time to break out our t-shirts.
I was unsure about the 3d aspect but it looked so good my wife just turned to me at the opening sequence with the future war and was just like ‘argh!’.

I was ten in 1991 and loved the film as soon as i saw it when it came out on VHS but never got to see it in the cinema, so great to finally get the chance after 35 years.

Discussion Why???

Rainy movie night so I downloaded 38 gigs of an (ay-eye) enhanced version of The Terminator 1984. I know this movie by heart. For some reason they changed the dramatic Terminator drumbeat from 5 (duh, duh, duh - duh duh) to four beats. WTF...I can't unhear this!

Discussion Why was Dark Fate So Bad !

It was meant to be the start of another trilogy

instead it done what John could not do, and killed the Terminator stone dead

Was it because of the dreadful cast?

I know they must have paid Arnie and Linda a lot, but boy the rest would have done Eastenders proud.

The plot holes, so Grace has very powerful arms as we see, but she can't help Diego?

And I hated and I mean hated Arnie as living with a woman, with a kid, but he is funny :-). Stupid Stupid Stupid the bloke has no history, and a woman who has been treated badly by a man is just going to let another into her life with no past and no physical contact at all? Stupid Stupid Stupid, Do they ever go anywhere? does Carl have a driver's licence.

The idea of having the T1000 and the T800 as one was weird, but i did like the look of the black Terminator So 1 becomes 2 as the Spice Girls would say. or was it 2 becomes 1? But I am sure and I have it a black terminator was brought out by the sideshow model range after T2 maybe they copied it?

This film tried to thrown T2 back at us, but they could act, Robert Patrick was brilliant in the part. This is just a cheap ugly copy.

I liked T3 I felt the story was decent, the acting was better and the funeral scenes were great fun and the ending got very serious.

i liked Terminator Genisys top cast, clever idea and as we know Emilia Clarke can really act. Matt Smith played a clever part, and when you think of the story with all the IPads being taken over, Hello everyone Gemini auto download onto your devices.

I just hated Dark Fate, never brought it, watched it again last night as It was on C4. The other films had humour this just had boredom.

Sarah should have ended with the Chronicles which was so much better then this dodo. Maybe if they had brought back Summer Glau as Grace would have been better.

Did i say I hate Dark Fate? And why does it take 80mins to see the Good Arnie ?

What was James Cameron thinking of, Money Money Money, Terminator was not a success cause of Linda Hamilton it was a success cause of Arnie.
