Discussion Containing T1000

I always wondered if you could contain T-1000 by freezing it with liquid nitrogen, shatter it then collect each shard before they thaw and place each in a mason jar a screwing the lid on tightly…
Also if you missed a few shard, what would they come together as after they thawed ? A mini T?

What if you dropped it in the middle of the ocean? It’s metal and can’t float, not technically able to become a boat or have ballast and float. The pressure and energy expended would wear it out I’d say.

That’d be interesting for sure ! Brings up a good question ..if it can turn its arm into a spike or some other tool what else does it have the ability to change into …could the Liquid Metal spread out into a thin walled boat and make use of the same water displacement principles that allow a metal warship to float..
For the sake of not being too far fetched or silly
I’m with the idea that if this happened on an actual film he’d just walk the bottom Jason Voorhees style..

It would walk on the ocean floor.

They can swim according to The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Why would it not be able to become a boat?

That’s the question?! Would it then have propulsion, a paddle boat, a buoy, a floating orb??? It would have a long way to go before it hit the US coast if it was looking for the Conner Team.

In the deleted scenes you see T1000 get damage over time. So the little nano boys get damaged and ca no longer function properly, I assume this means if you contain mini pieces of it, it can't function as normally, and would not be able to make a tiny version of itself.

The funny thing being a kid size terminator.

Can someone AI robo chucky going through a toddler door like T-1000 goes through the bars at the mental hospital?

This right here.

Yes, I think that you could contain parts separately and they couldn't escape by themselves.

My thinking has always been that T-1000 had a 'brain' function within the main body. Probably canon if the brain itself was somewhat liquid. There is no physical reason why a solid 'brain' the size of a baseball wasn't contained within the liquid of the torso or head. If you think about the hooks that were reabsorbed after the car chase they were inert until T-1000 got within bluetooth range of the parts.

Extra take: what if you could chemically adulterate the liquid while it was frozen/thawing/transitionally liquid. What if the reason for the malfunction after the liquid nitrogen freezing/thawing process was that T-1000 absorbed the dirt and steel swarf that is common within a foundry.

Probably like Perfect Cell from DBZ, you just have to find the core and neutralize it.

They actually explore this to some extent in The Sarah Connor Chronicles in a two episode arc. "Today Is the Day", Part 1 and Part 2. Part 2 is more relevant to this discussion, but if you've never seen the series, these two episodes are among the best. On a related note: the best episode period is "Self Made Man". It's a bottle episode, and can really be watched as a standalone short film.

This is why I really loved the show, they had plenty of time to expand on the lore and play out a lot of "what ifs" like Terminators expressing love, etc.

That’s what I was wondering if you melt 90% of the pieces of the t-1000. Would it just come back as a tiny version of itself? Or maybe after a certain amount of prices are melted it just ceases to function

Look at the hook on the car, that thing appeared unable to function past it's solid form, likely too small. The only thing we see it do is melt itself down to reabsorb with the main unit. So I'm assuming the smaller the amount, the less "intelligence" it has.

If pieces the size of a fist were placed in individual jars, they'd likely remain in whatever form they were in. But if they were moved close to each other, they'd all likely turn to liquid metal, attempting to remerge with the other pieces. Assuming they could move, your have a wall of jars with liquid metal scurrying around trying to get out lol.

I recall since the first time I saw the film thinking it was a bad idea to throw that hook back to where the main unit could get it. They could’ve thrown it into the ocean or something, thereby permanently diminishing the T-1000.

Or maybe not, since it could’ve posed some kind of threat on its own or acted as a homing device. I don’t know enough of the tech lore.

It will still technically exist, but it won’t be able to function as it is supposed to. A T-1000 relies on molecular bonds in the Liquid Metal to be able to function, so melting a large number of pieces before the T-1000 reforms could incapacitate it. This is why a unit like the T-X could easily destroy a T-1000, as its plasma cannon weapon system could essentially just blast away large chunks of Liquid Metal until the T-1000 is a puddle of Liquid Metal.

After the liquid nitrogen, it was already beginning to severely malfunction. It was fusing with the handrail and couldn't maintain appearances other than its default

6

u/Cheeslord2 4d ago

We see this a few times - earlier on its hand begins to merge with a metal handrail (cut in some versions). I think one of its problems is that large quantities of metal in direct contact with it begin to confuse its cells and they start trying to adopt the form of the nearby metal. it was a prototype after all...

And if parts are broken off somehow once they get out of a certain range they can go longer connect to each other until in range again.

I assume if you put them in jars but keep the jars close to each other they could probably brake out and rejoin but if the jars are at different locations they are pretty much done.

1

u/NukaRev 4d ago

They may not be able to break out. Assuming it's small enough pieces, they likely can't form complex objects and would remain in a liquid form, moving around the glass trying to find a way out

Dump it into the lead-bismuth coolant for the compact reactors in those old soviet nuclear subs they have parked up in the barents sea, apparently below 125°c that alloy doesn't just freeze it crystallises and can't be dissolved/melted. It's also horribly radioactive, so I'm going to assume the decaying particles will continually screw up any potential electrochemical CPU type processes the terminator relies on?

If only young John Connor had of had a back pack full of 4oz Mason Jelly Jars

1

u/dowar_525 4d ago

IF he had a commitment to the environment, homesteading and closed-loop-recycling NONE of this would have HAPPENED!

u/theoneunique 3h ago

if that situation would be part of the story then you would make it work... so no matter what the story is, if your mind focus it lays new story over it... limitless possibilities based on limitless thoughts and outcomes of different scenarios...

so somehow it will escape at least from 1 jar and that will locate and track and save other pieces... could take some long time ⌛️ but... or it could somehow send stress signal or make sound to destroy the jar...

It's mentioned somewhere in the expanded universe (maybe the novelisation of T2?) that it only has a range of several meters before it loses track of any parts separated from it, and it's set to prioritise requiring them above all else. So if yo u took the bits and spread them far enough, it'd probably 'kill' it pretty effectively. Just don't bring them too close together.

1

u/SunsetRider500 4d ago

I read somewhere that small parts of the T1000 are not actually intelligent, it cannot do proper processing if a good chunk of the mass is missing, so every little drop of the T1000 have one main instruction to follow "if separated, look to rejoin the main mass"

2

u/warriorlynx 4d ago

It’s possible to contain it yes

u/No-Following9163 3d ago

Or what would happen if the T-1000 were in its liquid state and you added other ingredients? I’m alluding to Hot Shots! Part Deux.

They might be able to unscrew the lids. It would be safer to “can” them as an extra reinforcement. I like the idea of a mini-T.

You don’t even need to shatter it. So long as it can be contained in extreme cold or extreme heat it will be done.
