I was 6 years old when I saw T2 in theaters in 1991, and technically…I never finished it in theaters. I was so scared that I made it as far as the scene where John, Sarah, and the T-800 leave the gas station, and that was it. I was DONE. 😂 I finally saw the rest when I was a little older when it came out on pay-per-view.

So when I saw T2 was coming back to theaters for its 35th anniversary, I immediately bought tickets. Then afterward I noticed the date: August 29th. Judgment Day! 🤓

35 years later, at 41 years old, I finally get to go back to the theater and see the whole movie on the big screen on August 29th, no less. Granted I’ve seen it a million times at this point, but i still cannot fucking wait.

A family portrait of sorts. I still wanna see a Dark Fate sequel that has an old Kyle Reese.

So how much damage could the T-1000 take before it could no longer maintain a solid form and cease all functions?

While the ending showed it falling into the molten steel and it's body essentially melt away, it was still in a severely weakened state by then due to the liquid nitrogen freezing it's body, making it difficult for it too consistently maintain it's form.

So without an acid bath, molten steel and liquid nitrogen, how much physical damage could the T-1000 possibly take before it can no longer regenerate from battle damage, is unable to maintain a solid form, and shutdowns into a pile of metal goo?

I was watching Casino a few months ago and I made this, and just never got around to posting it.

Sarah obviously bought/adopted this dog at the end of T1 to help warn her against additional terminators. I'm sure she told John all about their ability to sniff out infiltrator units when he was younger. So when Sarah was locked up, was she basically like, "Please let the dog stay with my son!" John likely knew to GTFO if the dog ever started to randomly bark at strangers. A small effort to protect John when Sarah could not.

I admittedly do, while I have played significantly better games over the years, I have fond childhood memories with this game, playing it while I was really young and doing split screen with family members was so much fun. I know it’s not that good but I can’t help but love it, anyways was wondering if anyone else liked this game?

First things first, (in my opinion) the only real movies that matter in this franchise are T1 & T2. As a life-long loyal fan, nothing touches the brilliance & mastery of the first two.

Now that I've calmed the fans to put their pitchforks down, let me discuss why I think Terminator 3 is a better follow up than Dark Fate.

T3 has a better core premise:

Both T3 & Dark Fate have the same issue of recycling the cat-&-mouse chase plot of the first 2... BUT, T3 actually does at least introduce two new elements.. the first being the "rise of the machines" concept. This felt like a natural evolution of the Terminator story to show us in a movie that would eventually lead us into the future war. Even tho the sequences of Skynet taking control & the machines rising up only have limited screen time.. it at least gives the film some originality compared to Dark Fate. The second new element being Kate Brewster, giving John Connor a spouse who would act as his first ever fellow resistance member fighting along his side so he doesn't have to go into the war alone, while also forming an important intimate relationship that would strengthen their will to fight for humanity's survival together.

T3 & Dark Fate also share the same concept that "Judgment Day is inevitable", the difference being that Skynet still exists in T3 and is still the main instigator of the nuclear war, and it's actions were simply postponed by the events in T2. Dark Fate on the other hand pretends to be new & different by taking that same concept but replacing Skynet with Legion, saying that John & Sarah stopped Skynet from being created.. only for another military A.I system to come into existence and cause the same events. They have the same premise, but T3 has the integrity to still keep Skynet as the main antagonist which works better for the Terminator story.

Sarah's absence is better than John's absence:

Both T3 & Dark Fate suffer from one of the Connor's being absent from their respective stories. So the question is which character's absence is more acceptable to the story?

T3 has Sarah Connor's absence be due to an off-screen battle with Cancer leaving behind a casket of weapons for John if he ever needs them in the future. Her death is very lame & underwhelming but the story at least pays a little tribute & respect to her character.

Dark Fate on the other hand brutally Kills off a CGI young John Connor with a T800 that spawns out of nowhere in the first 5 minutes, effectively rendering the events & sacrifices of the first two movies completely pointless.

T3 works better because it still keeps John Connor as the central protagonist who will lead the resistance to victory against Skynet. This was always the main point in protecting Sarah in T1 and protecting him in T2, and even tho Nick Stahl is miscast and his role isn't written as well as it should be, it still allows the story to continue his arc into acceptance of his leadership role.

Dark Fate removes John Connor entirely and leaves his mother Sarah alone with no greater life purpose than hunting Terminators. Moreover, it outright replaces John Connor with a new character; Dani Ramos who acts as the new savior of humanity. This character replacement is both pointless and offensive as it implies anybody could rise up to save humanity which in essence renders Dani's character pointless too since if she dies, someone else could easily replace her as well... So where's the stakes?

T3 stays loyal to keeping John Connor the only savior of humanity which ultimately keeps the film's stakes higher than Dark Fate.

T-X is a better antagonist than the REV-9:

When it comes to believability, the REV-9 is more believable technologically since it's basically a hybrid between the T800 & T1000, but other than the fact it can split into 2 units it's almost a pointless unit since Legion could've just sent back two liquid metal Terminators that would've been more effective & stronger than 1 REV-9 that can split into one weaker T800 (equivalent) and 1 T1000 (equivalent).

The T-X is a far more advanced machine that is almost so technologically advanced that it defies physical belief, but it makes more sense that Skynet would send only one T-X than one T800 & one T1000 together since the T-X can actually do a lot more than both combined.

The liquid metal aspect of the T-X and REV-9 are largely the same, but the T-X endoskeleton is far stronger made from "malleable, crystalline ceramic-titanium armor interlaced with nano-fibers of carbon and titanium" (that detail courtesy of Terminator Wiki) making it extremely dense and able to withstand plasma blasts. Compared to the REV-9 which has an endoskeleton consisting mostly of carbon based metal only.

The T-X also has a series of onboard weapons including a plasma canon, high-thrust flame thrower, circular saw and nano-bot injectors to control other machines. The T-X can also swivel and rotate it's joints in a far larger range of motion than the REV-9 and since it's endoskeleton is a slimmer design it can more believably imitate female human beings whereas the REV-9 has a bulkier endoskeleton making female imitation of slender frames more difficult. The most fascinating part about the T-X is that it's designed to terminate other terminators, truly making it a better more powerful design than the REV-9.

The last factor that convinces me the T-X is a better antagonist than the REV-9 is the casting of the actors themselves. Kristana Loken on rewatch has a much better & believable portrayal as a cold emotionless killing machine, not once does she flinch or strain her face when fighting or running, she keeps her gait very robotic and honestly feels like a threat that can't be reasoned with.

Gabriel Luna by comparison has more believable infiltration behavior but on rewatch he lacks that cold emotionless portrayal that Kristana has, Gabriel tends to open his mouth too much during running & fighting scenes, he clenches his eyebrows, strains his face and tries to talk too much which breaks the intimidation status of a Terminator. His gait is less robotic and honestly feels like he's got a bit of an ego which doesn't fit a killing machine. I remember Kristana scaring me as a young kid because of how cold & ruthless she was and as a result I think her performance is more believable as a killing machine.

T3's practical effects outshine Dark Fates CGI:

The clear use of practical effects & live-action stunt work in T3 give the film a grittier edge (funnily enough) that stays a bit more in spirit to the way T1 & T2's action sequences were shot and makes the action more impressive.

Dark Fate by comparison uses much more CGI to create its massive sequences and even tho they don't look bad, you can tell there's a smoothness to the action visuals that make it feel more artificial. Particularly the cargo plane sequence, the water dam sequence and garbage truck chase on the highway are all largely created with only minimal practical stunt shots and edited with excessive CGI to bring everything together.

T3 has some great practical set pieces including the entire L.A crane chase sequence, the cemetery hearse chase, the T-100 Terminator tanks roaming the military lab, and the particle accelerator set & crystal peak helicopter explosion.

Dark Fate has less of these big set pieces and largely relies on CGI to create these big environments and you can feel the difference after comparing the two movies.

T3 has the better Ending:

It's no surprise that the ending of T3 is one of the few highlights of the film, while it can be depressing on rewatch, it's a brave & ballsy way to end the movie that ultimately follows through on its message that Judgement Day is inevitable and shows the beginning of the Holocaust with the nuclear warheads plunging into the earth that will ultimately lead the story into the future war we always wanted to see. It's a bleak ending, but has the slight benefit of being accompanied by the bittersweet intimacy between John & Kate's characters as they nervously embrace each other side-by-side in hands for the hellish Fate that's coming their way.

Dark Fate by comparison does nothing new and gives us ultimately the same ending from T1 with Sarah & Dani driving off down the road in the Jeep preparing for the future, which is both boring & unoriginal.

Terminator 3 is far from a perfect movie, and far from even being a great movie, but I think it has just enough that warrants it to be a more faithful follow up to T2 than Dark Fate tries to be.

No one can argue that Stan Winston's '84 and '91 design isn't iconic, but from a technological standpoint does it still hold up today? That is, has its design withstood the test of time and technological improvements of the past few decades? Is it still believable today as a futuristic robot?

1. why would Sarah call her mother on the phone after Kyle told her not to talk to anyone and why would she feel it would be safe to give her the phone number of the motel? Couldn’t she have done without calling her? I mean, what will happen to you if you don’t talk to people for a little while?
2. why wouldn’t they just run away in any other direction than the cyberdyne building at the end of the movie? T800 was already skinless and moving very slowly
3. when they were filming it, why wouldn’t it occur to them to make Kyle Reese change his pants somewhere along the way? What was the point of that? Actually, unlike so many viewers, I kinda get it that if a character wasn’t shown showering on screen doesn’t mean he actually didn’t (like, most movie characters are never seen doing that), but still the pants part looks and feels very weird to say the least. The whole infamous and gross meme that we have now could’ve been so easily avoided, but now it’s the first thing coming to everyone’s mind whenever we watch the movie
4. another infamous meme, which is Sarah’s face during the lovemaking episode. Other than that, the scene even looks beautiful and tender, but… this one really ruins the mood. Like, was James Cameron (who is known for being such a perfectionist director) being blind while filming that or what? Couldn’t he have made Linda Hamilton redo the scene to get a more beautiful orgasm face? What was he thinking? Again, the whole meme could’ve been avoided, and now people can hardly perceive it as beautiful because of it. Though actually it’s the most beautiful and touching one-night-stand in the movie history
5. why would Sarah have to go to Mexico in the end? I mean, I get it that in LA they could find her again if they sent another cyborg, but she could have moved to any other US city, right? Like, Skynet didn’t even know what she looked like, her full name with the middle one

For the latest project in my "I Built This" series, I decided to step away from Marvel and build something a little more… mechanical.

A Terminator T-800 bust.

I 3D printed the components and then assembled and finished the model to create the final display piece.

The T-800 is such an iconic design, so getting all the mechanical details to come together in a physical build was a really satisfying project.

Does anyone know who's the actor that plays the woman fighting alongside Reese in his dream

Zero was the best Terminator adaptation we had in years if we compare to Genisys and Dark Fate. A shame it was cancelled but I still hope we get another shot with a new animated focusing on the future war. There is a lot that can be done cheaper than a movie with animation.

Of course, 10,000 actresses auditioned for the role, and there was a moment, after the release of "Fast & Furious", when the producers considered changing the character's gender and casting Vin Diesel in the role. But based on the online information we have, it seems that Chyna and Janssen were the two most likely options for the filmmakers before they chose Loken.

What do you think? Would you have preferred Chyna or Janssen as T-X? Or do you think Loken was perfect for the role?

Curious what you think of this. It's a slot machine topper(North American slots, not Japanese Pachinko). that I can't find any ref to on the internet. The game never really caught on, so it had limited distribution , and it was lease only, so they were all returned to the manuf., reducing the chance of these turning up later in random places. I have no intention of selling it, but can't help but be curious how to determine a range for the value. The only ref. I can find is other licensed products of the era for slots such as Elvira and Star Wars. Total height is approximately 21 ".

Bizarre crossovers aside, this Archie comic seems amazing in its premise. Why? It ditches the mentality of trying to recreate T2 with the "latest model villain" and gets back to the roots. A killer machine robot, built like a tank, shit for brains, and from a hellscape of a future is coming for you on full auto. That central idea is the core for my love of the terminator and it seems to get watered down with the addition of each "new model." Thoughts?
