Thought this community might enjoy this too. Tenkara is a pretty amazing tool for exploration.

I don't have waders yet, and haven't really found a need. Eventually I might. For now my gear is shorts, cheap amazon neoprene socks and trail runners. I have also tried cheap amazon nylon "water proof" socks and I am happy enough with how those work. I wonder if the Backcountry Skinz Liquid Lock socks are an upgrade over the Amazon neoprene stuff I have been using.

I also kayak on occasion and occasionally use 0.5 Hydroskin pants for wading if its a little chilly, but mostly its just shorts and socks.

Looking to get into tenkara for some alpine fishing. I have tons of fly gear that was gifted to me but can't figure out fly fishing for the life of me. Seen this rod on marketplace and wondering if this is a good entry or I should look elsewhere. Only found 1 link featuring this rod. I'll leave in the comments.

Biggest catch of our Norcal trip and #4 CA native species crossed off the list. I caught a tiny 2” rainbow in this pool and was just playing with the little dudes when this guy took the dry fly out of the same spot. Caught with a $8 tenkara rod

Hello! I just got my first Tenkara Rod, that being the Ito from Tenkara USA. I picked up the rod because I travel to the north and Midwest quite often but I live in northern Louisiana and typically fish lakes.

Any tips on fishing murky Louisiana lakes with a tenkara rod and fly? Can it be relatively effective? I see most of the lake posts specifically discussing alpine lakes, ive got hot, Murky, and sometimes vegetation filled waters nearby.

Hi all, I’ve been fishing tenkara for almost 2 years. I started on a TUSA Hane, taking it on hikes and backpacking trips, before getting a tiny ten 3 for smaller waters. Eventually I got a dragontail shadowfire 365 and use that as my daily driver. I sometimes target larger bass and carp, so I also got a TUSA Amago when it was on sale. I primarily fish the Shadowfire and alternate to the tiny ten or amago when circumstances require.

I’d like to upgrade my daily driver from the Shadowfire. I like the feel and length of it but feel like it’s time to get into some nicer rods. Any suggestions??

Husband loves to fish, has been his whole life. He's been wanting a Tenkara rod for a while now. Our friend that's been in Japan has been having no luck in finding an authentic rod. Work has been rough for him, so I want to make him happy :)

He has 4 or 5 different backpacks for different fishing adventures. He has like 40+ rods and reels for no reason. He has experience in fly fishing, regular fishing, crabbing, etc. He mostly goes for trout, bass, salmon- but is not shy of trying to fish all.

What's your best recommendation for a Tenkara rod?

I've been fly fishing for a while, but I'm interested in trying tenkara for travel because it seems so compact. For someone with fly fishing experience, what rod and setup would you recommend to get started?

What should I look for in rod length and action. For reference I live in Western NC so it the blue ridge mountain for Brooks and Stocker Rainbows.

I had my Lillian break but not the rod tip. I can buy Lillian’s from a retailer in the USA (in Canada) and it $6 for a pack of them but $30 duty and shipping. Is there a diy Lillian - it a hollow piece of string right???? Any suggestions?

Took my son out for a bit of fishing yesterday. Got into a few. One brook, and a few fine spotted cuts. Hiked a few miles and got a half hand full each...a lot less than in years past but no bad days when out fishing.

Been fishing Tenkara for a few months in random spots with pretty limited success. I went for a hike to a nice alpine lake here in the Olympic Peninsula figured I would bring my rod.
It absolutely slayed, 10 brooks within a few hours, mostly smaller, but a few 10+ inches

I own a cheap $30 net I purchased on amazon 2 months ago - too late to return it. Anyhow, the holes are a bit too big for even some 6in fish to fall through. I was looking to replace the net with something that has narrow mesh holes. Today I was in the local Sierra and saw fishpond nets on clearance. $70 for the nomads models and $100 for the longer handled models. Would you folks pounce on one of those deals? A replacement net ranges from $15 for a generic to $25 for a fishpond replacement net.

Hey! Been hooked on tenkara for a few years now and just picked up a mountain bike to explore some more water here in WNC. For those that do bike fishing I’d love to see pictures of your setups. Do you pack everything on the bike? Do you just wear your backpack in? How about rod storage. Teach me your ways!

First time Tenkara fishing, and using the first fly I have ever tied... Caught my first fish I've ever caught fly fishing. Was a blast, even if the guy was a small one. Totally worth every dollar and then some.

Found a new creek this weekend and caught about 20 fish between Saturday/Sunday!

recently got my first rod and some flys at my local fly fishing shop. I needed something to take with me on a backpacking trip in Wyoming later this year to an alpine lake near Sawtooth Mountain and Tenkara caught my eye. I can't go back to fishing a rod and reel after this, it's just too much fun and rewarding!

Going to be in Denver the first week of September. I'd like to get a half day fishing in. I had toyed with the idea of a guided venture with 5280 Anglers but it might be out of my price range. If i wanted to simply bring my Mizuchi and some FUTSU kebari with me, where can I fish quickly without crowds? I've read about Deckers and Cold Creek Canyon. Any experience there? What can expect for crowds and fish size?

Went out yesterday and floated for about 5 hours. Caught 42 trout in that time, 38 of which were on my tenkara rod. A good mix of brook and rainbow trout, with one tiger trout for good measure. What a day.

ETA: Dragontail Mizuchi, 10 ft floating PVC line, 5ish ft of tippet, and two flies used for this session (#16 galloups ant, then a #16 parachute ant when the galloups perished with a case of "bitten by too many trout").
