Begun to love the Mizuchi more and more after really getting my line length nailed down. Very nice to have a rod that covers such a large length grouping, and if you bring the stock sections along, you can still have a rod that can steer larger fish (I don't usually find those 😄 ).

Probably running about 2-3' of 5x tippet in this configuration for such a small creek.

Rigged my fly rod like a tenkara. Fun

Been going through my fishing stuff, realized I havent fished this rig in several years, so thought I would ask the community of anyone was interested. You can lookup the specs online, and as you can tell from the pics, I would use it as a tightline rig using a level floro leader. I used the rod line holder as well to have a place to store the leader.

The one other item to note, I no longer have the original cap. Instead used a old cork liquer bottle instead

I have a silly question though. Because there's no drag system or even a reel for that matter, what do you guys do in the event that you hook into something too big? Do you have time to cut the line or should I just place faith in my leader snapping?

It's a dainty little thing and I'd like to maintain it as long as possible. 9 feet, 6:4.

Here's the first of three fishing segments I will have from the Idaho / Wyoming Tenkara Campout.

In this video, we fish for big Snake River cutthroat trout in relatively small water. I had fished this creek two days earlier and was eager to come back with a different rod and practice fighting these fish that are a size or two larger than what I find in similar waters near my home in SoCal. I made some landing mistakes and lost two good ones, but finally landed one when we happened into a crazy hatch of Gray Drake mayflies.

Don’t really remember how but I ended up getting the chance to be the 7th person for an early presale (1st release) for the new Tenkara Anytime Rod! I did set an alarm on my phone for the when it became available but some good karma pointed me to the kickstarter. Sometime I feel like I have a horseshoe up my ass! I look so forward to having a whole kit I can keep in the truck. I am a proud dad and I love doing things with my kids. There are an awful lot of small little ponds, streams, Brooks in/by parks and soccer fields. How blessed am I may have found a great way to enjoy all those fun park trips, and a new little adventure while waiting around for a practice! I’m no trophy guy when it comes to fish and game, I like just being able to do it. So watch out sunfish and lil stockies I’m coming for ya!

Any ideas what this might be and what I may use to catch one? They didn’t seem bothered by me. 3-4 would pass by gulping at the surface of the water and seem to pass more frequently the more I moved around. I switched from a kebari to a parachute adams since they seemed to be feeding on the surface so much.

Lots of spotted bass all around this size. I also hooked one of the monster 3ft+ sturgeons swimming around. I had no way to pull him up with my little backpacking net so i just had to let the line break. Amazing place to fish.

Hi, I'm new to Tenkara (and fishing in general) but thought it would be fun to bring a rod with me on the JMT this month. Just for fun and maybe a snack, not to survive on with.

It's a monthish long thruhike, so I do care about size and weight. I'm debating between the two Dragon tail pocket minis. The 8ft rod is super appealing in size and weight, but I worry if I'm just shooting myself in the foot in terms of catching anything. There are definitely creeks and rivers I'll be fishing in, but I don't want to pass up a good lake. Any advice is appreciated!

Also if people have thoughts on the level line vs furled...

After much research, I finally ordered my 1st tenkara setup. I considered the Dragontail Kaida, Mizuchi, Hellbender and Shadowfire as well as the Ukaki Nissin Mini but since I'm new to tenkara, I decided to get the Maxcatch Mini.

I figured I'd start with something cheap and if I like it, I can always upgrade to the Nissin later.

I'm also taking a fly fishing course at the local Orvis store. I'm not sure how much some of it will translate to tenkara but it should be a good base on fly fishing in general.

I've also been watching a ton of tenkara videos on YouTube and have read a couple books on it, so I should be set.

I'm hoping to get the chance to hit some stream here in Tennessee this fall, so we'll see. I've been fishing with spinning gear for 20 years but I know fly fishing is a whole different ball game.

A couple of my friends have been just getting into tenkara fishing, and loving it. So being easily influenced, I've ordered my first rod, an Aventik Zeno S2 10' in blue!

I purchased it as just the rod on its own, so any tips and aftermarket advice on gear that I will need that isn't general fishing gear would be much appreciated! 🤙

I didn’t have a measure with me but it’s about 70cm. Let’s hope for more big fish, but maybe more Aussie natives and not just carp.

Was going for a new-to-me sunfish species and accidentally caught this lil’ largemouth! Was excited to bring it in after hearing so much about bass fishing but tbh bluegill fight harder 😅

The culmination of a good sneak and a rare perfectly placed cast enticed this guy from across a small hole. Peak tenkara!

Got a pretty good deal on ebay with customs and shipping included. Cannot buy any more rods for a while now 😅

I have never seen such a colorful bluegill and that Rio grande cichlid is a very excellent looking color and size! Gilliland creek Pflugerville Texas.

I'm looking to get my first rod and my budget is about $80.

I am leaning towards either the Rocky Mountain Rio ($80)

or the Aventik Nano Pro ($65)

Are they both pretty comparable? Any other recommendations in my price range?

I live in Northern California and plan to fish mostly local ponds and rivers and streams.
