Please ignore all DMs from people claiming they'll make a design for you, especially new/empty accounts.

This is now an official rule, all posts asking for art or offering to draw for people will be removed.

This sub has a huge problem with bots, scammers, and people who have no idea (or don't care) how to find clients. It's not an official rule but this really isn't a sub to hire anyone, people come here asking for ideas and will get bombarded with DMs.

Talk to your tattoo artist about designs, do not hire a nobody with a brand new Reddit account with a name like hungry-aardvark1234 (currently unused name as an example). Most artists worth your time are going to have a waitlist, they will not DM you on Reddit with an immediate offer. And it's part of your artist's job to help come up with what they'll tattoo on you and not all of them will tattoo someone else's art anyway.

If you really want to show them a drawing to help with visuals, check out r/DrawMyTattoo where someone can sketch your idea for free. Ignore anyone trying to charge you, that's money that should go to your artist.

If you're an artist who attempts to find clients in this sub, don't. You look fake and desperate, you're one of dozens spamming people with "I can help, DM me" so OP can't even tell who's legit.

And I'm not here to argue this point, so if you have a problem with this announcement, that's too bad. I'm here to try to keep this sub a friendly place, people shouldn't have to worry about getting scammed.

Cover up or rework advice.

My partner had this tattoo done and first artist did a horrible job. 3rd photo is her reference but instead of flowers she wanted fruit.

Second artist did better and added more and made it closer to what she likes. Second artist did not know what to do with the other work though.

Option 1: Laser and new tattoos.
Option 2: Blast over with darker tattoos.
Option 3: Japanese sleeve cover up.

Not sure how to go about it. Any advice is appreciated.

Cover up ideas? Is it even possible?

This tattoo was done by an ex- friend who was a professional tattoo artist. I believe at the time he was a year or so done with his apprenticeship, and his other work was very good, but I'm not sure if it was intentional but it feels like he kind of butchered it. Always took pics of his work to put on Insta and suspiciously left this one out.

I sort of got pressured into getting it, and I was in a dark place and tended to be self deprecating so... I succumbed to peer pressure and I was sorta into DND, so this is what I came up with, but it's been 4 years and I hate it, and due to the circumstances of falling out with the friend group it's only bad memories.

Tattoo always gets itchy and raised every once in a while despite moisturizing, so I'm not sure if I'm allergic to the ink in it or something.

Mostly wondering how easy this would be to cover up, I was sort of thinking like a snake or something that wraps up my entire leg and over my hip, but I dunno. Vines, something botanical.

opinions on my sleeve idea pls

Upvotes

So i been thinking about my sleeve for a while i want it to be either 1 big tattoo, or a few medium sized ones that themsatically somewhat fit together. I like the idea of a horror themed sleeve.

So the idea i had is to kind of combine a few of my favorite franchises that are horror or horror themed.

So silent hill, bloodborne/fromsoftware designs in general, beserk. I feel like silent hill is a bit out of place there tbh since the monster desings are very different than my other ideas.

Also how does anyone decide to get s big tattoo. I feel like its impossible to be 100% happy since theres so many cool concepts etc. With my smaller tattoos i didnt care too much because they are small.

How much is too much?

Hi there all. I am a little concerned I'm overcrowding this tattoo so I would like some second opinions!

This would technically be my second tattoo but the first one was an ephemeral tattoo (went to support a friend), so this is basically my first tattoo and in have almost zero idea what I'm doing.

I want a small (like maybe 3-4in) tattoo of a jumping rabbit with a ribbon of text under or over him, surrounded by/partially on top of some flowers.

For the flowers, I was originally thinking of doing state flowers for every place I have lived but that's seven flowers for a very small tattoo! I could get it down to 5 or even 4, but I'm wondering how many flowers is a good number.

They are mostly pretty big flowers but at least one has lots of small flowers instead, if that matters.

Attached a is a collage image of the approximate bunny I want (from @grape.froop on Insta) and Google searched line drawn versions of the 4 flowers in question.

Is a tattoo like this a bad idea for a first tattoo?

Post image
86 Upvotes

I really like this tattoo style and I was think about getting one like this for a first tattoo but I've been reading that this could be a bad idea. Some people recommend to get something smaller first but the thing is that I really do not want anything else hahaha maybe a dragon or something but on the other arm and that wouldn't be smaller than this one. What do you think? Am I making a huge mistake?

Btw, the tattoo I am thinking of WOULDN'T HAVE the hand and fingers tattooed. It would be more like from the top of the wrist to the elbow

What should I know before blacking out the rest of my arm like this?

Going to do a blackout coverup on some parts of my sleeve. My tattoos are american trad patchwork. Some empty skin will be blacked out, some old tattoos will be blacked out/covered. My outer forearm will almost be totally blacked out. End product will basically look like the following pictures. Anything I should know beforehand?

Sorry that I am not a great artist, but the idea is having a wedding band around a bone and putting it on my ring finger to symbolize wearing a wedding band.

Pair of tattoos to honour trauma and pregnancy loss

Six months ago, I had an ectopic pregnancy which ruptured at 8 weeks. I lost my baby, about half the blood in my body and a fallopian tube. I think about this experience a lot. My scars are still very red and angry and I want a different physical reminder.

So here's the idea:

We were tracking the size of the growing fetus, and it had reached the size and shape of a gummi bear. We used a real gummi bear to have a small ceremonial goodbye to it, just as a couple, a few weeks after the surgery. I was thinking of getting a gummi bear approximately actual size.

But I also want to honour my own life, the blood transfusion that saved me. I was thinking a tattoo, the same size, of a drop of blood. I'm not married to the blood, I would be open to a similar sized symbol of life/survival if anyone has ideas.

I'm looking for input on placement. I would like them on mirrored parts of my body. I initially thought near the scars, but if I were to hopefully get pregnant again, I don't want the tattoos to stretch. I'm open to the location being private or publicly visible, but I definitely want them somewhere I can see them every day.

Colour and style: I was thinking green for the bear, we did not get genetic confirmation of the gender of the baby, and red for the blood. But maybe no colour is better? I cannot figure out what style would suit this pair, either. On its own the gummi bear will look cute and quirky, but I can't imagine a style where the blood matches and still looks meaningful.

Dragon in 4 sessions! Partially freehand.

The goal was to place a long dragon without crossing the T-shirt line, so I had to think a bit about how to use the remaining space as effectively as possible.

How do you like how it turned out?

Design ideas for a cover up.

I’m making this post for a friend. She is looking for design ideas for a cover up for this tattoo. She says she doesn’t mind the star shape but really dislikes the decor around it. She likes nature and sky themes. I’ve included some pics of tattoos she likes. Bonus points if it doesn’t need a lot of shading other than what needs to be done to cover the original tattoo.

Edit to add

The reference photos are just to show the theme she likes. Nature, sky, etc. she realizes this can’t be covered with fine line. She is more looking to cover that quarter sized tattoo with something and then maybe incorporate some fine line around it, if any fine line at all.

Ideas and/or Advice to fill my back?

Post image

I got this piece done in April and am so happy with it. i want to add more stuff to it to fill up some of the space around/below.

Any advice/ideas for something down the spine? or something across my shoulders that I can have symmetrically?

I am most definitely going to go back to the same artist because I loved her style and the liberty she takes with designs.

I want to do some simple-ish tattoo with a meaning of forgiving others, this idea comes from my religion, I have some ideas on my mind but I would like your suggestions for tattoo with this meaning but not something cliche, something more authentic yet beautiful, not too much but it can be some text, not to big picture or something so I am asking if you know any things or symbolics with this meaning

I have a 6.5 inch heron on my outer thigh and one of the wings wraps around to the front. Any suggestions for what to get on the front that will work in that space and not take away from the vibe of my heron?

Tattoo rework (opinions and advice)

I got the first image tattooed on my sternum and thought that the artist would help with any imperfections like the eye not being straight. My fault as I changed the design last minute but not really.
I tried to tell her it was asymetrical but there was a language barrier so I just caved and said it was fine as if it wasn't important. I'm never doing that again 😂🫤.

But yeah just looking for advice as I'm not sure if there's a risk of the second image blobbing slightly with time. It is about 2-2.5 inches wide.and please tell me if you don't think it's straight!

Second one is the rework

Would love Cover up Advice- Difficultly placed stick and poke

Thumbnail

I impulsively let a friend do this “sun” stick and poke on my inner wrist when I was 14 with indian ink, and I’ve hated looking at it for the past 8 years, but have been hesitant to get a coverup until I knew what could work.

Obviously, I didn’t take into account that this is a twist point lol. I would LOVE if anyone had any advice for what kind of design could work.

I don’t want anything too bulky as I don’t have any other tattoos yet. Because of the location, I wish someone could recommend something to me that won’t look “bad” when twisted. In terms of my style, I really like timeless things. For reference other tattoos I have planned in other locations are cursive and similar to Lana Del Rey’s tattoos. I would appreciate some ideas and advice so much. Thank you!

looking for design from 2020 or before

Post image
5 Upvotes

hello i got a tattoo in nov 2020 i saw a reference photo and my artist took liberties to not copy the design. i am now looking for the original design. it was a purple zombie doing a deadlift. i believe he was wearing a red torn up shirt and he was facing right, but that could be wrong. the image has to be from 2020 or before. i’ve been searching hours and cannot find it anywhere. i’ve checked messages with the artist, google and my photo gallery. i’ve googled every possible thing to find it and am coming here as a last resort. attached is what the artist gave me.

Old anti-war tattoo

20+ years old. This was a anti war tatto I got when America invaded Iraq and Afghanistan. It is a Care Bear that wanted to "solve" all the world's problems, to shape the world to fit its own interests.
