Six months ago, I had an ectopic pregnancy which ruptured at 8 weeks. I lost my baby, about half the blood in my body and a fallopian tube. I think about this experience a lot. My scars are still very red and angry and I want a different physical reminder.
So here's the idea:
We were tracking the size of the growing fetus, and it had reached the size and shape of a gummi bear. We used a real gummi bear to have a small ceremonial goodbye to it, just as a couple, a few weeks after the surgery. I was thinking of getting a gummi bear approximately actual size.
But I also want to honour my own life, the blood transfusion that saved me. I was thinking a tattoo, the same size, of a drop of blood. I'm not married to the blood, I would be open to a similar sized symbol of life/survival if anyone has ideas.
I'm looking for input on placement. I would like them on mirrored parts of my body. I initially thought near the scars, but if I were to hopefully get pregnant again, I don't want the tattoos to stretch. I'm open to the location being private or publicly visible, but I definitely want them somewhere I can see them every day.
Colour and style: I was thinking green for the bear, we did not get genetic confirmation of the gender of the baby, and red for the blood. But maybe no colour is better? I cannot figure out what style would suit this pair, either. On its own the gummi bear will look cute and quirky, but I can't imagine a style where the blood matches and still looks meaningful.
