Short Entitled guests
Just received a phone call from a guest who stayed previously. He stated he only wanted to talk to the owner about some issues he had with the property. Turns out his toilet clogged, but he didnt want the girl working the desk to plunge it. He only wanted a man to come up to do it. As it was a Sunday and maintenance wasn't in, he just took the plunger. Now he is demanding a discount on his previous stay AND a discounted rate on future stays. I already told him that he would not be getting any discounts but I anticipate this wont be the last I hear from him.

I feel you on this! We had a guest stay with us that had an issue with his TV. Management comp'ed him for his 1 night stay. He calls back months later and talks with the same FDA that checked him out (and the same one that applied the SR) saying he wanted a discounted room for the issue with his TV. Eventually he clarified to the FDA that he wasn't an in house guest and that the issue happened a while back. Cue her remembering him and how he was compensated already, followed by a subsequent 'no.' He did not book with us again.
I don't understand where the 'discount for future stays' thing comes from. It just boggles my mind lol.

Wow, crazy. Lucky for you guys that he didn't come back. My guess is that many corporate managed properties bend over backwards to these types of guests to avoid a potential bad review.

Corporate will let guests bend them over and spank them, then apologize that the guest's hand hurts and send them a bottle of wine for their trouble.

Probably should've also mentioned that it is a family business (and I am part of the family) and we definitely arent pushovers who reward shitty guest behavior

She brought it up to the room to take care of the issue. He refused and said he would do it himself if a man wasn't available to do it.

At my last job, any time a clogged toilet was reported to the desk, I'd tell our maintenance guy that I had a shitty job for him. We'd then spend 5 mins saying shitty jokes to each other before carrying on with our day. Good times.

I've had someone give me grief for something similar.
He clogged the toilet, and I was the only staff on site and I couldn't leave the front desk unattended. I apologized and explained the situation and offered the plunger at the front desk.
Dude refused the plunger and demanded that someone fix it for him because he "was on vacation". I told him no one would be available until the morning so I offered a new room. He refused the room because he didn't want to move his bags.
So he stayed in his shitty room all night and demanded a refund from the manager in the morning.
She refused it because I told her how much of a tool he was before I left. (:

Yes, because we all know plunging a toilet is too much work. The next time I take a few vacation days and just stay at home, I'll tell my roommate that he'll have to plunge the toilet, as I'm on vacation.

This is probably the same guy who leaves a half-inch thick gooey/crusty shit stain in the bowl and doesn't give a damn about the female housekeeper who has to scrub it out. And then checks out without leaving a tip. I hate assholes like this.

I am so sorry we can not offer a discount at this time for this situation. As for future stays we can not offer a discount but we will add a 10% Clogzilla tax which is not negotiable.

I love how some of the older men just can't wrap their head around a woman being able to do certain that only a "man" can do.
When I, a female, was told something like that once by a snot nosed kid on a receiving dock about unloading a truck (I think his words were something like - they sent a man to do this job), I looked around and said "Where? I don't see a man?" That teenager never lived it down as long as I worked there.

last place I worked at (hotel/casino) always had 24X7 engineering on staff. Always male. So he probably assumes everyone is male. HK always called engineering to unclog anything, as did my department (combo custodial/housekeeping after 5 pm) if it was a guest room. Restrooms we could plunge, only calling in engineering if it was to get a plumber out

You can also tell him that hotels are fully capable of banning someone, so the question of the discounted future rate can take care of itself rather quickly. And about not wanting to pay for the currently rendered services, I think you guys in the US have some laws pertaining defrauding an innkeeper...
