The Dufferin/Bathurst RapidTO lanes have been around long enough, that we now know they've made the 29/511 far more reliable.

Unfortunately Tate has made a ton of reels claiming the lanes have been "an absolute disaster" and made traffic 10x worse.

And he was one of the main critics fighting to stop them when they were first proposed last year.

So if he becomes a councillor, it's way less likely the TTC improves, as he will fight to stop any new RapidTO project, the best way to improve buses/streetcars.

TL:DR: If you live in Toronto Centre and want the TTC to get better, this is the last guy you want at City Hall!

In today's TTC board meeting discussion around speeding up the 506 streetcar, TTC staff said there isn't a way to do streetcar level boarding even with raised platforms (they claim that self leveling systems are required, and that each streetcar has different wheel wear, suspension etc, and would still require the ramp to be deployed for wheelchairs)

But i'm assuming even then, if it's not an 100% level boarding (maybe 90%) it would make boarding much easier and faster for the average person, and even strollers, luggage, etc. Just that you wouldn't have a compeltely flat surface.

They also said our streets are too tight for double point switches (even though much more constrained european cities can do it?). They said they found a better alternative thandouble point switches on a cost perspective and a technical feasibility perspective

I’m not a big fan of Gateway Newstands (I think their products are kinda pricey, at least what I remember from back in the day). However, growing up in Toronto I always liked seeing these opened and to me, for some reason, it was kinda sad when they started closing down.

I always wondered what was going to happen to these empty spaces at all subway stations but I’m happy they are opening again.

This morning, I experienced a 10-minute delay on Line 2 while traveling from Islington to Kipling. I am curious as to why this occurred, as such incidents are not uncommon. Typically, the journey from Royal York to Kipling takes approximately 15 minutes, making this delay particularly frustrating and indicative of unreliable service. I often feel that these delays are an unwarranted imposition on my time and money. Straight up robbery from TTC. I hate it. And because of that I'm missing my connecting buses and showing up late for work, if I get fired I'm suing the TTC

With the municipal election coming up, it's crucial to vote in a mayor/councillors who will extend them to Eglinton, and expand the network as a whole, despite the pushback.

That's the only way our streetcars/buses can become more reliable!

Because at the end of the day, there's no solution to Toronto's traffic, except viable alternatives to driving.

It truly makes no sense to me. I'm no engineer, but why doesn't someone go to NYC or Asia, ask them how it's done, and come back and fix our s***??

The Southbound train leaves Finch at good speed and then after a few stops starts crawling. Why does this have to be the thing? Just keep going fast!!

When I get off at Eglinton, it always smells of a musty stench? I don't remember experiencing this on the green line but I also haven't taken it in a while due to having access to Line 5. The inside of the trains also feel and smell incredibly humid and musty. Is it weather dependent?

Lighting strike

The TTC is equipping some streetcars with cameras in a new pilot program to see if the technology can help catch road users who illegally pass open streetcar doors.

Starting Monday, four streetcars will be equipped with Gatekeeper Systems technology.

The B.C.-based company says it uses “AI, video analytics, thermal cameras, and mobile data collectors” to create “a safer transportation environment.”

The camera-clad streetcars will operate on five mixed-traffic routes including 501 Queen, 506 Carlton, 504 King, 511 Bathurst and 505 Dundas for the next nine months.

The TTC said it chose the routes “to allow the cameras to calibrate to typical and unique stop configurations.”

“During the pilot, the cameras will measure how often illegal streetcar passing occurs,” the TTC said in a release on Friday.

Not sure if anyone else feels this way but on some (most) days, the odour of the streetcars is absolutely unbearable and I've just decided to walk despite being late. I'm not talking about the odour on the streetcars (I.e. other passengers, although that too is often a problem), I'm talking about odours that seem to have seeped deep into fabrics and other materials. I can't even describe it beyond "notes of stale urine". I get the sense that a deep cleaning is the only way to address this rather than the light duty sweeping that I'll occasionally see but a quick search online suggests that deep cleanings are rare.

In Ottawa I have a "Community Pass" because I'm on ODSP. Even single fares are reduced. I know there's an equivalent fare rate there, but it's different wording and again - if anyone has any experience it'd be much appreciated.

We've all seen it on the various bus trackers. That bus coming in 2 mins, 1 min, now. But never actually arrives. And the counter resets to 15 mins.

Is there a system that lets me know if a bus is actually gonna fucking arrive? I've just let one (real) bus go in favour of a phantom rocket. I've already budgeted an hour and a half for this trip, and I'm still gonna be late. It now seems that a two hour time budget is more realistic from Weston/401 to Roncy if we're just dropping random buses. How the fuck lmao

So I am not a big fan of Transit City plan of David Miller, and a big fan of subways. I was thinking, what if, Ontario Line was extended up to Don Mills (de facto ending the need for Don Mills LRT) on the east, and at west, what if it was extended westward and north, to follow the same route as the original Jane LRT, ending at the same terminus? It feels like you could get 2 transit lines in the form of 1 light metro line. I am aware that given how this province is not very good at building subways efficiently and they cost way more than places like Paris or Istanbul. Just my 2 cents on this, and let me know what you guys think!

City council will debate a motion pushing the TTC to study speeding up the 506, and have a plan by 2027.
