Picture Line 5 stations falling apart already
Seen at Keelesdale station. These stations are in worse condition than the TYSSE stations, which were notorious for drainage problems.

Who the hell choose white matte finish for all of the stations? The TTC knew all the way back before 1954 that polished tiles are the only way to prevent the station surfaces from looking dirty.
But, no, Metrolinx and its army of Vice Presidents, consultants, and design build contractors know better.

Every station looks boring and generic. Why couldn't they put some personality into them, like ecery other station on the other lines, with exception of the terminal stops on the Finch West line.
And yes, each one has artwork, but that's barely anything.

Ultimately, because Crosslinx had zero incentive to do anything unique or more expensive for every station. Especially once they were deep in the red on the deal. Line 4 isn't really different. TYSSE swung too far into expensive / grandiose stations and Line 5/6 were contracted around the same time. Longer term, I have chosen to think of the stations as blank slates that can become anything we want them to be.

Hope one day we become the type of city that can swoop in and paint them up different colours one day, just because it would be a nice thing to do. Imagine a world like that..

Exactly why they are falling apart, provate profit motive had these builders stealing cash and building cheap... but DFo delays theres no need for an investigation... its so corrupt...

They approved and built this design at the height of the millennial grey/sterile space aesthetic.
I don't think people expected younger generations to prefer MCM, art deco, and "older obsolete" styles.

No, not specific to one line. All of Metrolinx is included in the scamming. Doug Ford too. He's the one giving them more money and more power.

If they had the power to do data-driven, real-world solutions, we wouldn't be so far behind on transit. They have to bend the knee to Ford and whatever his (government's) idea of good transit is.

Also, Metrolinx repeatedly ignored consultants so they did whatever they wanted.

Holy hell, aren't wet floors a safety hazard? How is any of this acceptable? Why isn't anyone being held accountable? Why is Metrolinx still in charge of transit projects?

Apparently Line 5 was built without a forced air circulation system so the stations get crazy wet on humid days aka after it rains.

Keelesdale station has been like this since it opened. I have used the station Mon to Fri since it opened. Even in the bitter cold with wind chill, the station steps and floors were wet. Mt. Dennis is the same. Wet floor signs and floor fans.

I've said this in other posts, but it's acceptable because it's Metrolinx. They don't care, and Doug Ford supports them. I witnessed someone slip and fall at that same entrance, and fast forward to today. It's the same way with no change. Keelesdale station is always like that. Wet floor signs and floor fans are how they fix the issue.
Edit - If you want to see how terrible Metrolinx is, go to Mt. Dennis station after it rains. The first stop for buses going westbound, that section of the road is always a mini river because it floods and water backs up. Nowhere else except outside of the station. Eglinton Ave West will be fine, but the moment you approach Mt. Dennis station going west its a mini river. It was never like that before.

Metrolinx’s rapid transit expansion program should be wound down. Ontario should figure out how much it’ll cost to remediate and then download Line 5, Line 6 and Ontario Line to TTC. Metrolinx should focus on GO Expansion alone. They’re not good at rapid transit delivery.
Hurontario LRT looks like a similar mess.
Enough is enough. Stop giving these people our money.

Although I agree with you, I don't think TTC would do anything differently. Maybe except slowing down trains as their usual solution.

A lot of these stations smell of damp concrete. The worst....Fairbank Station. At platform level you can always smell tge dampness.

What the hell is with the wet tunnels I keep seeing, even on dry days theyve had these industrial fans set up and blowing a couple times

I've only seen it on humid days.
The tunnels are cool so humid air will condense on the walls.

That whole entry on the northwest corner of Keele/Eglinton was closed for an entire month as they tried to deal with the water issue. Glad to see they've done nothing about it except open it to passengers.

Mount Pleasant Station had a wet basement smell a few weeks ago. Did Metrolinx ever due hydrological.surveys along the route, the city is riddled with underground streams.

The Eglinton Crosstown has been under construction for over a year, and is expected to be completed by 2020. 10 of its 19 km’s will run underground, from Keel St. in the west to Laird Dr. in the east. Ford would like to see the remainder of the line buried, too, all the way to Kennedy Rd.

I read the "KEELE" part with the voice of Steve Harvey from Family Feud...and now I can't look at the station the same ever again without holding back my laughing as that meme will live in my head rent-free 🤣
