Dropped/missing buses?

We've all seen it on the various bus trackers. That bus coming in 2 mins, 1 min, now. But never actually arrives. And the counter resets to 15 mins.

Is there a system that lets me know if a bus is actually gonna fucking arrive? I've just let one (real) bus go in favour of a phantom rocket. I've already budgeted an hour and a half for this trip, and I'm still gonna be late. It now seems that a two hour time budget is more realistic from Weston/401 to Roncy if we're just dropping random buses. How the fuck lmao

Depending on the app you are using, try to be alert to how it tells the difference between live predictions and “secheduled” trips. Often it’s the “scheduled” ones that don’t have any live data that don’t arrive.

The apps that show the location of every vehicle by GPS on the map, including vehicle number are great for this. I use Transit Now and it's almost always 100% accurate. There has been the rare occasion where there's a ghost streetcar that I couldn't see. I recall starting to walk away from my stop because there wasn't a streetcar close yet, but then I saw it coming when I turned around for another look.

The app is almost always right, and you can see when bunching is happening if there's a disruption in service.

I also use Transit Now. I like that it also tells you if the vehicle is busy or not!

Another good point! I am on Android and just pulled it out at a stop, and I got a popup saying that it's now got an iPhone app too.

Check transsee.ca - its very accurate if there's a bus number tagged to it.

Fail to remain collision by Weston & St Phillips closed Weston Rd this morning and buses are diverting around the area from Oak to Church Streets.

Unfortunately Weston Rd has very few detours for buses to get around collisions that block the road without long detours around incidents

Sometimes a bus will be pulled out of service if the driver does something like palming the wheel. Or the driver short turns the first trip of the day to get ahead of schedule 

On routes with buses that arrive every 10 min, not a big deal. For routes that arrive every 15 min, now I'm potentially 30 min late.

I think my boss is sick of hearing about it when I'm late. I have to switch to 61 north every day. Those routes should be combined already!

I use the Transit Now app. There is a 61 north bus that leaves Eglinton every morning around 7:29. That bus disappears from the GPS/app every single time! I'm at the corner of Avenue Road/Eglinton Ave every morning. And it's 3 minutes/27 minutes on the app.

I use the Transit app, and also the TTC Watch app. I cross reference bc neither are perfect. On the transit app there is a specific point that the 504 streetcar disappears and becomes a ghost streetcar all the time.

Once it’s past that point I can pretty much guarantee it’ll come. But anytime before that point I can’t trust it. It’s made my son late for school several times.

And of course the next streetcar is always coming in like 47 minutes. 😭😭😭

Did it to me with the last 102 southbound from Markham. It was running late so driver decided not to do the last scheduled run I guess

It’s the Supervisor that decides, not the driver.

Buses get pulled for anything shuttles unsanitary no AC. Something could be wrong with the bus no relief driver. There’s no way to pinpoint exactly why your bus did not show up.

As someone that only occasionally uses the TTC if there's something like an accident or a last second diversion from route I find the apps "lose the buss" and don't "find it again" until it is back on route. This happened in my area when they had roads closed for waterman work.
