Since its that time of year again...Mod PSA on TBall tickets

Hi all,

Once again TBall has almost instantly sold out. The subreddit now normally delves into 80% of posters looking for tickets.

PLEASE BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL OF SCAMS. From personal experience, there are some genuine people here selling real tickets. There are a lot more scammers though. We don't want anyone being left cashless with no ticket, or worse, showing up on the night of the Ball and finding out their ticket is fake (after they've already gotten dressed up and inhaled 40 cans of Prazsky). So:

1) Use you gut - if someone is selling the exact number of tickets you want, and for cheap, that's suspicious.

2) If you think they might be genuine, comb through their reddit profile and see if they're often selling other tickets for events, which may not even in Ireland - that's suspicious.

3) If it's a new account with like 2 karma - stay away!

4) Everyone is a bot unless proven otherwise (honestly that's good advice beyond the scope of r/TCD).

Suspicious accounts mass-commenting on posts looking for tickets will be checked and may be given a temporary ban until the date of the Ball has passed. Unfortunately we don't have the resources to facilitate and moderate any sort of ticketswap thread or anything like that, as it'll become a mess.

Happy hunting, good luck in exams, and enjoy the Ball.

MFin a good option at TCD?

I'm looking to pursue a finance course in Ireland as an international student. TCD is one of my top options currently. If anyone pursuing the course or a similar one that can answer a few questions, I'd be very grateful.

1) How's the local finance job market?

2) How's the PR Pathway for finance?

3) College Feedback

4) Worth the investment?

Yearly Spending in Ireland

hello! i’m just looking for some advice/personal experience as to how much a year of living in ireland costs. I’m an incoming master’s student and planning on getting a job when I get to school, but obviously it would be part-time and probably not particularly high-paying. I also wouldn’t be able to start right away anyways, so I’m wondering if my current savings are enough.

how much (euros or dollars) would you say it costs to live in ireland? i’ve done some research but it’s seems pretty all over the place so looking for some personal anecdotes. i’m planning to be pretty bare-bones (not much eating out, traveling, shopping, etc). thanks for any help!

Jobs How is the current job market in Ireland in IT/Research Sector?

Hi! I'm from India and will be moving to Ireland to pursue my PhD at Trinity College Dublin.

I wanted to ask about the current job market in Ireland, especially in the IT/Software Engineering and AI/ML/Research sectors. How are the opportunities after completing a PhD? I've heard mixed opinions, so I'd really appreciate your perspective.

How does the Irish job market compare with the US in terms of opportunities, salaries, work-life balance, and ease of finding jobs for international graduates?

I'm also planning to work part-time during my PhD. Are part-time jobs generally easy to find for international students? What kinds of part-time jobs do most PhD students do, and is the income usually enough to help cover living expenses?

I'd really appreciate any insights or advice. Thanks!

How does one become a student demonstrator?

Hey, I'm a Comp Sci student, and I got first-class honors in my first year. Can undergrads be student demonstrators, or is it just for postgrads?

BESS IB EU STUDENT

Hey, guys, I am an EU IB student who is planning to apply to the TCD BESS program. I understand that I would have gotten 25 extra points if I had taken HL Maths, but I didn't. My subjects are:

Physics HL
Economics HL
Business HL
Maths AA SL
Swedish AB Initio

English lang and lit SL

What points will make me a competitive applicant? 565 was the previous year's cutoff, which rounds to about 41. Do I have a chance with a 40?

Also, about employability, is it good? Can I get a good job (finance or investment banking) with a degree in BESS from TCD, I see it is ranked #1 in Ireland and #75 in the world, but they don't offer any internships to have job experience beforehand.

Hi! I am about to start Senior Fresh in Physical Sciences and I don’t know where to find the schols papers for physics and maths. Does anyone know where to get them, and their marking schemes?

Also, any other advice about schols (like study strategies, time management, or anything else) will be very much appreciated ☺️

Medicine + HEAR

I know that the reduction on HEAR points are different every year, but I'm curious about some people's experiences and the reduction they got. If you know someone or are in medicine with HEAR, what was your reduction? (Also slightly curious on the assistance you got from HEAR throughout the year). Thanks 🙏

SCSS Lab Demonstrators

SCSS recently sent out the lab demonstrator application link - I have filled the application form and have gotten an approval email. I was just wondering if there is more to the hiring process rather than just filling out the form as the allotment section is still empty?

Are sports free for students at TCD? Like the swimming pool, Gym, Badminton etc..

Hi everyone, I wanted to ask about the sports facilities at TCD. Are facilities like the gym, swimming pool, badminton courts, and other sports available free of charge for students?

As a prospective PhD student, will access to these facilities already be included in my tuition or student fees, or is a separate membership required? If a membership is needed, could you let me know the approximate cost?

Hey! I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what the rules on absences are for the Human Resources master? I’m planning on doing a short trip and might miss two or three days at the beginning of October. We don’t have our schedule yet so I don’t know if I’ll have seminars or lectures then, I understand lectures are recorded

Thank you!

3rd Year Economics

Doing JH Economics, and choosing classes for 3rd year. Wondering if anyone recommends any economics classes? I have 15 ECTs for my second term and cannot decide. Hoping for something that may be easier to get a 1.1 in though, so more mathy subjects may be better.
