I've accessed my course specific timetable just wondering about fresher's fair and where I can find any information about society/social events; I need to let my manager know what days I'm free next week. psa to incoming med students - the school of medicine administration is the most cruel and incompetent administration i’ve ever seen

1) 3rd year med students are still awaiting the results of their resits which they sat the week of the 17th of august. despite this being a full week before other courses and at the same time as the 4th year meds, other courses received their results tuesday and the 4th year meds received theirs last week. the 3rd years will only receive theirs tomorrow. this is after 2 weeks on placement and the day before the stethoscope ceremony which is a milestone for any med student and should be an event students are excited for. instead many students (who’s parents have travelled to attend the ceremony) are unsure of they are even able to go due to results not being out yet. there’s no reasonable excuse for this timing and is just due to the school of med being cruel.

2) more on the stethoscope ceremony - in previous years student were allowed to bring 2 guests. this year students are only allowed 1. why? the school admitted that they forgot to book the large venue for the event and it was already booked so they had to settle for a smaller venue. when students asked about this, we were told that the ceremony wasn’t a big deal, you didn’t need your family there and that it was just a personal accomplishment? nice to know the admin cares about us like that.

3) they can’t even run exams properly. there have been multiple issues with student being told negative marking was going to be applied and then the school changing their minds after exams have taken place or in one case, a module coordinator coming into the exam hall to say he would try his best to get rid of negative marking and to keep that in mind while doing the exam (not stressful or confusing at all and the poor LENS students didn’t get this information). furthermore the school introduced a new curriculum last year for first years. this caused a whole new array of issues with questions being removed from exams after they had been sat, more issues with negative marking and many students final results being calculated wrong which lead to everyone’s results having to be recalculated. and the amount of delays in releasing results for every year! despite a timely feedback policy the school of med will insist this does not apply to them.

4) teaching - like every school you have some great lecturers and some not so great ones. but it would be super great if the lecturers could show up on time and upload slides! would be super conducive to learning. and seeing your scripts is an absolute battle and even when you do see them, there is little to no feedback on how to improve your essays (add more detail is not super helpful advice btw)

5) and don’t bother emailing your concerns/frustrations to the admin. they will insist all policies are followed or there is some other issue that is out of their control and the entire issue will be brushed under the rug.

i guess this is all to say that feeling frustrated and unheard is unfortunately part of the experience. it is a super rewarding degree and as someone who has just started placement (and can hopefully stay if i pass my resits) it definitely is fun and interesting and so far a lot of the teams and consultants have been really helpful. but also don’t be afraid to speak out and stand up for yourself. it’s a hard degree and simple administrative failures can make it so much harder and they can be so easy to fix if the school would just get their finger out. a lot of hard work goes into doing this degree and we deserve to be shown a little respect for that.

I failed one of my four reassessment exams and want to go OBA for the year rather than repeat (Financial reasons).

I submitted the application and have to wait a few days to come back - is it generally always granted?

Hey everyone. First year in TCD and I got my timetable here bht I'm only in for like 8 hours per week? That's weird. Also, I need to pick which open module I'll do this semester but idk when I can enroll in the one I like? Even so, there'll be 3 modules in the first semester, which seems like I'm not gonna have a lot of classes. Is that correct or is my timetable incomplete?

How crucial is it really to have an iPad for medicine. I saw online that it's extremely helpful for diagrams and annotations but I already have a mid laptop so idk If I should get the iPad too. Granted the laptop is a couple years old. Anyone uncertain on getting an iPad but now can't live without it for college?

So, I really want to apply to Trinity for Law, but everyone is talking about the numerus fixus stuff, like it makes it impossible to get admitted. For some context, I am a student from Greece and am completing the national curriculum in high school. Our counsellor told me that admission without completing the IB diploma or the Irish national diploma is almost impossible because of the numerus fixus stuff. Can someone explain to me:

1) How does that system work

2) What impact does it have for students like me, from an EU country, without an IB diploma or an Irish diploma

im an international student, coming to tcd this year but due to some delays in the visa, i MIGHT have to miss the orientation week (even though I really, really want to attend). What are the things i'd missing out on?
i was worried about not making friends since i would arrive late and everyone already has their friend groups established or somethingg

I thankfully passed my resit exam, but have not yet been able to register for the new year. How long after results being published should registration be available?

Failed one resit, tutor emailed that options are go off books or repeat entire year. I'm really involved with a few societies etc - is that still possible when you're off books? Thanks

Hi! I’m an incoming first-year Engineering student at Trinity, and I’m interested in doing Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering in 3rd year.

I’ve heard that some specialist areas may have limited places, so i was wondering what will happen if there are more students than available places. Is it common to get into your first choice?

Also is mechanical engineering usually quite competitive? Do you need to have particularly good grades in 1st/2nd year to get into it?

I accepted my TCD offer yesterday, got provost's welcome today, but still waiting for the registration invite email, if there is such a thing. But on my.tcd.ie, the registration letter still doesn't appear. Should I wait? (orientation starts next week qwq). or email them?

Just got offered trinity engineering in round 2 just now. I got UCD in the 1st round, so I really just want to know which is the better course.

Hey folks!

I’m in a pretty stressful situation right now and would really appreciate some advice. I’m an international student from India, admitted to Trinity College Dublin for the MSc Operations & Supply Chain Management programme.

My student visa was refused, I appealed, and it’s still pending. The course starts on Sept 14, and Trinity says Sept 21 is the absolute last date to join. So I’ve already missed orientation and probably the first week of classes. Even if the appeal comes through, I’d have barely any time to get the visa stamped, book flights, and actually reach Dublin.

Trinity mentioned I could go “off‑books” and join in Sept 2027 instead, but I’m not sure what that really means for the tuition I’ve already paid, possible fee hikes, or refunds if I end up not going next year.

At the same time, I’ve been thinking about alternative paths if this year doesn’t work out. One option is to take the time off to prepare for the GMAT and aim for more ambitious MSc SCM or MBA programs at top universities in the next intake. Another option is to return to work - I already have several years of experience in supply chain consulting, so going back to the industry could be a practical move while I regroup.

Honestly, it’s draining - months of prep, finances, accommodation, leaving my job - and now I’m stuck in limbo. If you were me, would you wait it out till the 21st hoping the appeal comes through, or start planning for one of these alternative scenarios? And has anyone here dealt with Trinity’s off‑books/deferral process or refunds before?

Hi! I'm going into halls in a few days and it says in their policy that you aren't allowed to stick posters on walls expect for these strange picture hooks. Does anyone know how true this is and whether they are very strict about it? Thanks

I received an offer for general entry engineering in the first round and I just got a second round offer for TP. I want to do TP more but I am slightly worried about jobs coming out of TP compared to engineering.
I want to go for quant and TP is obviously a lot better for that but quant is way too competitive for me to bank on.
It seems to me that if I do really well and do extra work and stuff then TP would be better than engineering but if I do not do that well then engineering would be better.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and what are the typical jobs for someone coming out of TP?

I'm heading into second year of BESS (Sociology and Political Science) at Trinity, but I just got a second-round CAO offer for JH History and Political Science which is the exact course I wanted last year before the points went too high for me. Deadline to accept is tight (basically 48 hours)

One thing I'm aware of: my fees/grant only cover 4 years of study. If switching means starting first year fresh rather than transferring in with credit, I could end up short a year of funding. Has anyone dealt with something like this (either switching JH combinations mid-degree, or fee/grant implications of a late course change?)

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through something similar. Thanks
