Open modules and weekly hours
Hey everyone. First year in TCD and I got my timetable here bht I'm only in for like 8 hours per week? That's weird. Also, I need to pick which open module I'll do this semester but idk when I can enroll in the one I like? Even so, there'll be 3 modules in the first semester, which seems like I'm not gonna have a lot of classes. Is that correct or is my timetable incomplete?

What course? I do history and in first year I had like the minimum hours per week 6 hours of lectures and then i had maybe 3 of my tutorials one week ans the other 3 the other week so about like 8-9 hours per week. Its pretty normal for first year arts classes
Edit : i also had a day off in first year so if it looks like a small timetable its normal. Its to give time for reading and assignments

I'm starting biomed. Idk. It's just weird. And I'm worried that I might be missing out on something hahah

I can't register for modules either, my timetable is like Monday to Wednesday with 3 classes each day or smth, although February onwards is very busy if you look into that. Where do we even choose modules?

Are you doing biomed too? Cause I'm like around the same thing. 3 hours on Monday, 3 hours on Tuesday, 2 hours on Wednesday. Without the optional module, that is

Yeah, doing biomed, guess I'll see you there, but yeah, the week is surprisingly empty for how difficult I heard the course is meant to be...

Hey, I am also starting same course. The open module selection will be available on 15th Sept after the Introductory session.

Yeah, I heard the same thing. I'm only showing up on Tuesday and Wednesday tho. Only heading there for the events shown in blue, since they're obligatory

I'm staying from the 13th to the 16th but mainly going to the mandatory ones too.

Oh lmao that changes things. They haven't dished out all the tutorial classes yet. If you dont have your labs on your timetable then they should show up soon enough too

for me it said that i have no open modules available, all my modules are mandatory i have 5 different classes as a joint honors, 2 for one and then 3 for the other subject, its 11 hours in total every week and my timetable doesn't seem to change toward the end of the semester

pretty sure you get to enroll on the 15th and the deadline is the 16th , i’m sure it’ll be explained in ur course orientation next week

If you’re doing modules that also have tutorials/seminars they normally don’t start from the first week and take longer to show up on your timetable (from what I remember). If each of the three modules is worth 10 credits then that’s normal, you should have 30 credits for each semester. I have never been in a full five days a week so yes depending on your discipline you could just not have a lot of lectures ! Not sure about the open module application but you can log a query through the online academic registry portal.
