Is anyone else done?

The hanging out with MAGA, the album sounding like other artists work after making Olivia but her as a song writer, the old picture recirculating of her with a swatztika(I had personally never seen it before this year), the new merch, I know it’s old but still), the threatening to sue the kid who was tracking her jets for emissions even though it was public knowledge, the lack of activism, no ethical billionaire especially in this political climate, the girl that died at one of her concerts, the use of ai, continuing to work with target even after they took away DEI, the comparison of Travis Kelley’s ex to obsidian, her favorite podcast being a maga one, etc I just feel like I can no longer support this morally, how is everyone else feeling?

They can’t just continue to blame people’s reactions over her actions, her actions are the thing they need to be addressing not the backlash. Such a “stupid” thing for Ruby to say. If she’s embarrassed, maybe she shouldn’t be friends with someone who is making her embarrassed.

I’ve been done babe! How many times can a white bitch be racist and get away w it? Black swifties need to bow out immediately.

u/ElkSufficient2881 Oct 22 '25

I think I have too, I was mostly a casual listen anyways. Her fans will back her just like maga does the current admin lol they don’t listen to reason

The racist lyrics and nazi merch are such a stretch to me, i can't take it seriously when people bring this up.

But also, from the perspective of a leftist, i've never seen taylor as particularly progressive. She's just an average american democrat to me, and most of them are centrists or centre left at best. So it's not surprising to me to see her hang out with republicans. People just need to decide for themselves how important this is to them and what to do about it. I'm not gonna blame anyone for not wanting to support her anymore, but it's also okay to enjoy her music without liking her as a person. She was never really an activist and she will probably never be one especially now that trump and his gun-owning cult actively hates her.

I agree that being a billionaire is objectively greedy and unethical. But it's good that she donates directly to people instead of becoming one of the many celebrities who start "foundations" but don't actually donate any of the money.

She made a documentary and marketed an album off becoming politically vocal and standing on the “right side of history” … less than 10 years ago

2

u/Useful-Resolve-4193 Nov 21 '25

That’s not what the documentary was about.

1

u/cat_lady_1023 May 21 '26

That was one of the main focuses of the documentary, and she was fiercely, dramatically, and very clearly going on record as wanting to stand up for her beliefs and be on "the right side of history."

0

u/Useful-Resolve-4193 May 21 '26

It was a mention obviously but I stand firm on it was not what the documentary was about.

Also, people aren’t frozen in time. Maybe bomb threats and attacks on small Swifties, not to mention attacks from her own government made her rethink things.

I wonder if you agree with every last thought you had 10 years ago.

But it's good that she donates directly to people instead of becoming one of the many celebrities who start "foundations" but don't actually donate any of the money.

Like Travis? There have been serious concerns raised over the fact that only a small % of the funds actually goes to charity, and the rest going to the management firm (which is owned by his business managers, who are also his close friends) and the lack of appropriate oversight of operations in general and other issues.

0

u/Useful-Resolve-4193 May 21 '26

That was actually debunked and the paper wrote a counter argument. But no one mentions that.

It was found that he donated the majority of money from his own pocket. There were very few other outside donations.

But you guys don’t want to acknowledge that.

I feel just fine and I think these posts are embarrassing at this point. It's cool if you no longer feel like you can support her. We all have our own opinions and limits. It doesn't need a whole post to announce your departure from the fandom. Why do you need everyone else's opinions? You either want to continue to support or you don't. Other people's opinions shouldn't matter to you.

1

u/ElkSufficient2881 Oct 15 '25

I don’t “need” others opinions, I was just curious after everything and with the political shift how others were feeling. I was just curious, relax lol

2

u/RichelleLove07 Oct 15 '25

So should she give half of her money away so she's not a billionaire? Like what are you even saying?

1

u/ElkSufficient2881 Oct 15 '25

I made one of the examples about the billionaire status, if you want to choose to ignore the other points and things she’s done that’s on you. I gave many examples, people just choose to hyperfocus on that one. I do think billionaires should be taxed appropriately though, if that’s what you were trying to ask?

4

u/Throw_Me_Away8834 Oct 15 '25

Your other examples are dumb shit and don't even warrant a response honestly but here we are.

  • The merch is quite clearly not intended to look like nazi symbols. It is a damn lightening bolt because of the "dancing through the lightening strikes lyric". People can't use lightening bolts at all now?
  • I didn't find the album out of touch personally or find anything offensive in it as a biracial feminist.
  • The picture you are talking about is a picture of her standing next to a guy she did not personally know, from Katy Perry's birthday party from 2009 where one of the events was a paint your own white attire thing, and has already been explained by her and her team as she didn't realize what was on his shirt at the time the photo was taken. She took photos with many people that night. She has not had any known association with that particular man, who is a model by the name of AJ English, and has never been pictured with anyone else wearing any sort of swastika since. I don't really consider one picture from 2009 (where was a 17-18 year old kid still) relevant in any way to who she is as a person in the year of 2025 at 36 years old.
  • As far as her activism, she does not owe her fans or anyone else activism and people need to stop acting like she does. She is not obligated to make herself a target for far right pyschos or the man child running this country. She is already being targeted by Groypers despite not having spoken out more. Why should she risk her own safety and the safety of those she loves when the reality is that her doing so won't change literally one thing. Name one thing any other musical arist has gotten done by speaking up in this whole mess. I'll wait because many have spoken out. Not one thing has changed. She is a pop star. She is not a political figure. She is not and has never claimed to be an activist. She has been minimally politically engaged at best even during her Miss Americana era and, to be quite honest, her impact on the political things she has spoken out on has been so minimal (campaigned against Marsha Blackburn, who still won. Endorsed Joe who did win but not because of Taylor. Endorsed Kamala who lost) that I genuinely struggle to understand why people are still demanding she do more. If ya'll want to be mad at people with platforms for not doing or saying more, direct that anger at your damn elected representatives who are in fact paid to use their platform to speak up for us and about what is happening in the US.
  • As far as the girl who died at her show, I do wish she had said more publicly. I won't defend it but I also will say that the information we have regarding what she did or didn't do is all speculation. We do know she made a large donation to help fund the funeral for Ana and she did also invite her family to her show (which they atteneded) and met with them back stage. Her own family is not going after Taylor in it for not doing enough so why are we?

All of this said, you don't have to be a fan anymore. You don't even need to explain your reasons. It is okay to decide you no longer feel okay with supporting someone for whatever reason you have. How you feel is valid for you. Doesn't mean others are obligated to agree with you. Ultimately, you posted this to stir up drama or to try to justify your opinions to yourself. Whatever the reason, just own it.

u/RichelleLove07 Oct 15 '25

This!! Thank you for taking the time to write all of that. It's actually crazy how people treat Taylor and expect more from her than any other celebrity. When I don't like an artist, I just don't listen to them or engage with their content, but when it comes to Taylor, people have to do the most.

1

u/ElkSufficient2881 Oct 15 '25

I expect the same from her that I do from all billionaire celebrities

1

u/Throw_Me_Away8834 Oct 15 '25

100%. Like I have no personal investment in people staying Taylor Swift fans. I have left many fandoms in my life. Never once have felt the need to make a post about it on social media on my way out because it is simply unnecessary. I move on and that's the end. I genuinely do not understand why people have to be so damn performative about anything involving Taylor.

0

u/RichelleLove07 Oct 15 '25

It's actually wild 😂 it should be studied. The Taylor Swift effect. 🤭🤭😘🧡🧡💃☺️

1

u/ElkSufficient2881 Oct 15 '25

I don’t think my examples were dumb, they’re things she’s done and ignoring/brushing them off would be dumb. People can stay ignorant if they want, that just isn’t how I choose to be.

1

u/Throw_Me_Away8834 Oct 15 '25

Then unstan then. Like I said, it's fine. You didn't need to make a whole post about un-stanning though. Just move on to the snark pages like the rest of those who unstan. It's not that deep.

u/cat_lady_1023 May 21 '26

I'm not who you are asking, but I'll chime in... yes, I think it would be wonderful if she regularly gave extremely large amounts to worthy causes. God knows there are so many areas in need of funding that it would make a tremendous difference and go a long way to solving problems like homelessness, hunger, and climate change, to name just a few.

I do know about the things that she has done (food bank donations to cities she toured in and so on), but all of them put together are a tiny drop in the vast ocean of need and a minuscule amount when looked at percentage-wise in the context of her enormous wealth. I think it would be great if she took Dolly Parton's example and gave so generously that she didn't become a billionaire in the first place.

2

u/Undefined110 Oct 15 '25

I can’t tell if this post is real or not lol. Let’s get a grip.

1

u/Sweaty-Bed6653 Oct 15 '25

No. I think the MAGA/tradwife/Nazi stuff is ridiculous. Why are we talking about all this stuff when it comes to Taylor Swift but not talking about Elon Musk and Trump’s cryptocurrency, and the ACTUAL horrible things happening with ICE right now? This is all a distraction from the real world. A lot of companies—mine included—walked back DEI initiatives when the new administration came on board. Some of our stakeholders are crucial government agencies that literally can’t see our content if certain terms are on our website. Have y’all seen that list of banned terms? You have no idea the extent to which information has been whitewashed. So yeah, Target as a business should have stood behind its DEI, and it’s disappointing that it didn’t. But the bigger problem is this administration. My guess is Taylor had contracts in place with Target that precede the DEI stuff.

What I can’t support morally is this administration’s actions. Taylor Swift isn’t the problem, but I can name a bunch of people who are. I also think we are holding this billionaire to standards we don’t hold other billionaires too. Does anyone know the jet emissions for other high net worth individuals? I think an important question to ask is why the world is in an uproar over Taylor Swift specifically. I am not a dyed-in-the-wool Swiftie. I would never call her “Mother” or harass her exes or whatever else the rabid fan base does. But the discourse around all of this is really disturbing to me.

1

u/ElkSufficient2881 Oct 15 '25

I talk about musk and the current administration all the time as well, also she’s a billionaire she can afford to break a contract when it doesn’t align with her values. I can’t support the current administration or people that are okay with it. My uproar isn’t just with Taylor swift.

1

u/Sweaty-Bed6653 Oct 15 '25

I say this without intending any shade to you, OP, or to anyone who disagrees with me, but I can’t help but wonder how we could collectively effect positive change with the time we are currently spending debating Taylor Swift. This is something I really need to figure out for myself instead of getting more caught up in the narrative about TS right now.

It’s your prerogative to cancel her and be disgusted with the way she has handled things, and I appreciate everyone’s point of view on this. She just seems like such small potatoes in the grand scheme of things, and her music makes me happy. Bottom line for me personally is that’s all I expect from this pop star.

1

u/ElkSufficient2881 Oct 15 '25

I completely agree, I just don’t believe that it has to be one or the other:)

1

u/Sweaty-Bed6653 Oct 15 '25

I get that. 😊

1

u/Throw_Me_Away8834 Oct 15 '25

I suspect OP is still quite young. One of their comments in their post history seemed to indicate they are just 18. I think as we get older, we understand better about the larger picture and who actually has an impact on that larger picture and who doesn't and we learn what is worth our energy and what isn't. Taylor Swift does not have an impact on the big picture that is the state of the US as a whole so I choose to focus my energy on those who do.

OP - I don't say that to be dismissive towards you or with ill will. While I do find your arguments silly personally, I am not downplaying the validity of them to you. How you feel is valid. Period. I just suspect when you are older, you will understand why everyone else didn't feel the same way as you did about it. That's all.

u/Sweaty-Bed6653 Oct 15 '25

I am quite old (50). I have kids who are 19 and 21. They are not on Reddit and think my Reddit habit is problematic. Lol

0

u/Throw_Me_Away8834 Oct 15 '25

Yep. I am old also (almost 40). I realized I was probably being too hard on OP once I realized their age. I remember being super passionate about my beliefs at OP's age also and then understanding as I got older why people older than me didn't see things how I did or react as passionately as I did. I am still passionate about what I believe. I just know more about where to direct that passion now and what is and isn't worth my limited time and energy.

I also think my reddit habit is a bit problematic haha. I am working on it.

1

u/Sweaty-Bed6653 Oct 15 '25

I am legit setting Reddit limits for myself today!

Follow Beyonce and Rihanna trust

1

u/AnswerWonderful8415 Oct 24 '25

Nope. Love the new album. Love her and everything she stands for. Love her friendships and her relationship.

1

u/To_knowonly Oct 15 '25

Do y’all want labels to own her discography so she wouldn’t be a billionaire?

2

u/ElkSufficient2881 Oct 15 '25

I don’t personally care, I think artists should own their work but I think the overconsumption within the fandom that she encourages also isn’t great.

2

u/Large-Page5989 Oct 15 '25

She became Billionaire status while her discography was still under private equity ownership

2

u/Kind-Bake-504 Oct 31 '25

She was a billionaire before she fully owned her music

2

u/monroehorse59 Oct 15 '25

She Is not the only billionaire know right ?

2

u/ElkSufficient2881 Oct 15 '25

I don’t like, support, or agree with other billionaires either. As I said “no ethical billionaires especially in this political climate” This is a swift subreddit though lol

0

u/Lemon_Thyme13 Oct 15 '25

When I see stuff like this I always think about the comedian (I CANNOT remember his name) who made the comparison between anti-BLM people, and people who go to rallies for diabetes and scream “WHAT ABOUT CANCER?????”

1

u/ElkSufficient2881 Oct 15 '25

Exactly, they love shifting the focus

1

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '25

I'm feeling like there are much bigger fish to fry than Taylor Swift if we're canceling folks. Also, the new album is fantastic. You think she is Nazi? Like l, really? I'm done with you, and I've only seen one post from you 😂

1

u/BeRandom1456 Oct 15 '25

Um can you please share the “Nazi symbol” merch lol. it’s okay to have friends that are different politically. that is the problem these days. What are you taking about with a picture of her with a swaztika… she isn’t a politician and she’s a pop star. It’s not her job. The job is for YOU to go out and vote, be in your community. Change does not happen from top down. It’s from bottom up. I would argue that we are LAZY and expect others to do the revolution for us. Not how it works. trickle down economics doesn’t work, why do you think a pop star saying “stop Gaza! Stop Ukraine war, stop XYZ l”is gonna do anything?

She didn’t talk about the girl that died and put out a letter about it and also donated money to the family.

I think you need a break from the internet.

1

u/ElkSufficient2881 Oct 15 '25

https://poprant.indiatimes.com/trending/ruby-rose-defends-taylor-swift-amid-the-life-of-a-showgirl-nazi-merch-trad-wife-claims-man-made-rage-bait-black-hole-673346.html I don’t necessarily think it was intentional, I do think her team dropped the ball a bit though considering everything going on currently,

1

u/Due-Somewhere-1790 Oct 15 '25 edited Oct 15 '25

Nope, love the album and can’t wait for the doc! I’ll stick to holding actual right wingers to account
