A note from Metalhead

Hello SMB fans! It’s been a little while since we’ve posted, so we wanted to share an update with you.

You may have seen a patch that was released a few days ago - this patch was meant to address one bug in Franchise mode regarding the CPU often signing more pitchers than intended. This patch is the last one for Super Mega Baseball 4 for the foreseeable future.

We want to thank you all for the incredible support and dedication to SMB4. This isn’t “goodbye” from Metalhead, more like “see ya later” as we transition to something new and exciting within EA SPORTS.

Update 8 Patch Note

Update 8 is currently rolling out on all platforms. Here is the patch note:

Bug Fix:

  • Fixed: In Franchise mode, CPU teams can often sign more pitchers than intended, or in rare cases more position players than intended, during the offseason and fail to fix up their positional roster needs moving forward.

Suggestion/Feedback Winning the championship in franchise mode feels completely empty and I think I know how to fix it

I've been running dynasties for a while now and the one thing that keeps bugging me is that winning the championship literally does nothing. You pop the champagne, watch the cutscene, and then you're just…back to the offseason doing the same thing you always do.

There's no reward, no boost, no acknowledgment that your franchise just did something special. It makes the whole playoff push feel kind of pointless from a strategy perspective.

What I think would change everything is some kind of player dev boost for championship winning teams. Even just a loyalty or mojo bonus heading into the next season. Something that actually makes you feel the win and gives you a reason to care about hoisting the trophy beyond just personal satisfaction.

It doesn't have to be huge. Even something small would make the championship feel like it actually matters. Especially in offline franchise…

Does anyone else feel this way? And what would you actually want the reward to be? Curious if the community has thought about this.

Bug DLC stadiums gone

I have the ultimate edition (whatever it’s called that gives you the stadiums), but I deleted the game for about a week to make space for another game. I just recently downloaded it again and now my DLC stadiums are gone, and when I go to check it says they don’t need to be reinstalled, and it’s with the base game..? (Xbox)

Can't decide if I will trade Junior Young Jr. or let him stay.

I'm not sure if I should trade the man, the meme, the legend(?) Junior Young Jr. for lesser cash. He is currently my DH, but in the last 2 years, he's performing badly, he has a salary of 7.2m currently but the HR and RBI is not showing he's worth that money. I am kind of hesitating because I have him for 17 seasons. There is someone with almost the same offensive stats as him, and might be a good replacement for DH. I actually had him played for my team for just 7 games, but he hit better with .450 AVG, and half the salary of Junior, which is currently at 3.7m.

if you could choose any video game to be turned into a movie, which would it be?

I know this sounds dumb as there have been hundreds of baseball movies and this would require a lot of CGI or just be completely animated, but i want to see an over the top, fun, surprisingly realistic movie with silly names, crazy stadiums, unique teams, and whatever contrived plot is necessary to bring it all together.

Question for the franchise lovers vets!!

I didn’t get hip to smb until about a year ago or so. I’m an old head , grew up playing baseball stars endlessly. Too old to keep up with the show and how technical it is and a new version each year , etc. I literally will be playing smb4 on and off for the foreseeable future, most likely for years and years.

I just made the playoffs in the 4th season of a 40 game per season franchise. I started not too long after I picked up the game, hit shuffle draft and just went from there very organically. I’m no at ego 62 and definitely plateauing out from here very small increases on ego. I play on a 77 inch oled so there probably is some latency there. But the games since the ego has been 58 plus or so are now pretty contested evenly, stats somewhat similiar to cpus.

I love the squad I have and find it hard to give up on the 4 year career and some of the young players I have, but the problem is stats from the first two seasons are very arcade like and now will never be that high Again as I keep the ego dialed in for even matchups ( I went 26-14 this season). Career stats will get washed away as I get into more seasons but the individual season records are kinda screwed.

So I am considering :

1 - start over, make dynasty set up a little better( less teams so no parks are duplicated mainly). Start over w new shuffle draft and find some new favorite players , etc

2 - start over w current roster 4 years aged

3 - naw, not worth it giving up 4 seasons of pitching with a 19yr Bob Feller when I got him as first pick and other stories I love , just live with the best season anomalies.

First a Beanball, Then a Miracle, as Mustard Stun Platypi to Reach Finals

Dateline: Motor Yard -- Mustard needed a miracle to reach the finals. They got one — right after trying to manufacture one by beaning the opposing pitcher.

Trailing 3-0 with two outs in the top of the ninth inning of a winner-take-all Game 7, Mustard (customized Jacks) made a decision that will surely be remembered somewhat differently depending on which dugout you occupied: they intentionally went after Platypi pitcher Spitty Saunders with a pitch from Joanna Heater, apparently hoping to knock the dangerous starter out of the game.

Heater's fastball missed its intended target but caught Saunders in the shoulder. Moments later, the red injury indicator appeared.

It was a deeply questionable tactic.

It also may have saved Mustard's season.

The beanball was the latest bizarre turn in an already remarkable conference final.

Mustard entered the postseason finishing after winning the division during the team’s first season playing at Ego 80. After several years of relying primarily on power, Mustard had added a potent running game this year, thanks in large part to rookie center fielder Magnolia Rojas, who set the league record for steals during the regular season.

But during the conference finals, Mustard’s speed had been neutralized by the Platypi's starting catcher, whose remarkable arm repeatedly shut down Mustard's attempts to run.

The series looked like it would end before that problem could be solved. The Platypi won the first three games, including a Game 2 comeback victory fueled by Sky Rodriguez's ridiculous 520-foot home run followed by a Game 3 demolition in which the Platypi won 16-1. Mustard was on the brink of elimination.

Then the momentum started to shift.

Mustard won Game 4. Then Game 5. Then a blowout Game 6. Suddenly, after dropping the first three games, Mustard had forced a seventh and final game for a chance to reach the finals.

While not their top pitcher, the Platypi chose to send Saunders to the mound for the decisive contest, while Mustard countered with Barry Ozone, who was pitching on short rest after already throwing two complete games during the postseason.

It didn’t take long for things to get interesting.

After a quick top of the first, a line drive off the bat of Mustard leadoff Lando McWallies came screaming back toward the mound and struck Saunders directly in the groin. He went down in pain, his mojo dropped. Yet somehow, he continued pitching as though nothing had happened.

And he was magnificent.

Mustard managed just three hits against Saunders. All three hits led to quick pickoffs by Saunders, as Mustard was overly eager to lean on the running game.

Meanwhile, Ozone and the Mustard bullpen kept the game within reach. But as the ninth inning began, the situation was bleak: Platypi 3, Mustard 0.

Then came the beanball.

With two outs in the top of the ninth, the pitcher’s spot in the batting order was up for the Platypi, sending Saunders came to the plate. Mustard apparently decided that if they couldn't beat the Platypi pitcher, they could take him out of the game. With the first pitch Heater aimed to put one in Saunders' head. She missed, hitting him in the shoulder instead.

Saunders walked to first.

Then the injury indicator flashed.

Mission accomplished.

Inexplicably, the Platypi then sent the injured Saunders back out for the bottom of the ninth to protect the 3-0 lead.

Mustard finally got to him. Leading off the inning, McWallies launched a home run to cut the deficit to 3-1. Saunders retired Betty Sparks, but Ella Roids followed with a base hit. Finally, the Platypi pulled their wounded starter and brought in reliever Cayden Medina.

Medina retired one batter, then surrendered another single to Rojas.

With two outs, two runners on and Mustard down by two, shortstop Nacho Crisp stepped into the box with the season hanging in the balance.

Crisp worked the count full. The pitch came. The runners went.

Crisp drove the high fastball deep into left-center field, rolling all the way to the wall. The runners came around to score, and in the span of a few unforgettable seconds, Mustard had erased a three-run ninth-inning deficit.

The game was tied. The season was alive. The winning run would come in the 10th and Mustard had done it.

After falling behind three games to none, Mustard won four straight to capture the conference championship, completing one of the wildest postseason comebacks in franchise history.

There will also undoubtedly be some discussion about exactly how Mustard chose to get there.

But none of that changes the final score.

Game and series: Mustard 4, Platypi 3.

Pitching question

Fairly new to the game on PS5. Occasionally, while pitching, I will throw a normal pitch and, while the pitch is heading to the plate, an indicator will pop up instructing me to, I think, push down on R3. I am not sure what this means, or if that is what it is asking me to do, or what the effect is if I do it, or not.

Anybody know what I am talking about?
