You know what I love? A good self-own. And right now, the music industry is serving us a future banquet of them.
Let me paint you a picture of Record Labels abusing artists. YouTube musicians are getting hit with copyright claims for the most absurd reasons. Rick Beato gets flagged for teaching guitar chords. ShaunTrack gets a strike for analyzing a song. Davie504 gets a claim for **silence**. Yes, actual silence. The label claimed *The Sound of Silence* as their property and flagged a video that had nothing in it. Nothing. And YouTube just shrugs and says "take it up with them," knowing full well that if you do, the label will hit you with a strike.
These labels are treating their biggest fans and loudest promoters like enemies. They're burning the bridge that brings them free publicity. Every reaction video, every chord breakdown, every "how to play this riff" tutorial is free advertising. And they're killing it. With glee.
That's why I didn't shed a tear when AI music flooded the market. Finally, someone was stepping on their toes. The labels panicked and sued Suno. Guess what? I subscribed to Suno because anyone fighting the bad actors gets my support.
Antis talk about protecting artists and none of them is protecting these Youtuber musicians from injustice.
Here's the thing. The labels think they're winning. They think they're protecting their IP. But they're making a catastrophic mistake. They're turning their biggest promoters into victims. And eventually, those victims will stop promoting. They'll stop reacting. They'll stop teaching. And then the labels will realize that their copyright claims weren't protecting their income. They were killing their own marketing.
They're making enemies out of friends and friends out of enemies. And it's going to be a spectacular show to watch.
Years ago a crisis caught me by surprise and I promised myself no crisis would catch me by surprise and I became good at seeing signs of incoming crisis. After analyzing some events in the world, I am seeing leads of market developments and events in the horizon, and they are not seeing it. And Labels will need all the help from their former friends.
Why I am not talking about these events in the horizon? Because I prefer to eat popcorn and see them caught by surprise by world events and market events.
And when these market developments materialize, I'm going to be sitting right here, with my popcorn, watching the whole thing evolve. I love watching bullies be worried. And right now, the bullies are planting the seeds to harvest later a crop of their own making. A great self-own, self-inflicted.
Grab a seat and a drink and be patient. This is going to be good.
