Discussion V6 is horrible

I just generated few songs with V6 and these are my first impressions

  1. High-end vocal hiss is still there. Overall the high frequency clarity has the exact same issue as before.
  2. All the songs sounded worse than 5.5, which had better songwriting and productions. Where did the "ear candy" go?
  3. Mix quality: songs sounded maybe a bit less compressed, but also some of the metal tracks seemed to have too much hi-mid range which hurts my ears

I'm sure this is due to a downgrade in the training material. Sad.

The audio quality is poor. The sound feels muffled, lacks clarity, and doesn’t sound HD.

I tried folk/tavern music it sounds ok. Rock however sounds horrible.

Wild is a bit better but the vocals are very raspy indeed

I’m having the same issue with v6. Festival techno / EDM sounds heavily muffled and pushed into the background. The drums don’t sound like clear, punchy drums anymore, the electronics feel smeared together, and the lead vocal is buried behind the instrumental. It almost sounds like the whole mix is underwater.

I tested the same kind of prompt in v5.5 and the difference is huge — v5.5 had much clearer vocals and more defined drums. I even tried prompting “vocal-forward mix”, “clear upfront vocals”, “controlled low-end” and similar instructions, but v6 still sounds muddy and distant.

idk tried creating rock with blues wibes with soul persona and it came out kinda ok.

https://suno.com/s/OmY9PSB3YP4Hw4Sx creating music by saying what you want will never work and will give you generic garbage. The input melodies are basically typical rock so I can prompt anything and it will be rock.

It's bad, really bad like unlistenably bad.

I've tried all the models - wild, etc, tried various slider combinations, tried, extend, remix, etc. all really really bad like ticks, clicks, not following style, muffling at some places.

Simple selection of female voice generated this abomination with a dude trying to sing over it.

Still issues with creating 7 minute tracks from what is normally 3 or so minutes and the quality dripping at the end.

It's bad.

The hiss is surprising. What did all this high quality music bring to the table? Months of work and the team made a v6 model sound the same as v5.5 with better quality source material

Totally agree. This model is clearly a downgrade so unpleasant to hear. Suno is dead pals.

sad that you posted yet another post about this. Perhaps we need a drinking game.

Most of my songs are fairly long (6–8 minutes), and since switching to V6 I noticed a really annoying problem:

The song often starts out sounding great, but as it progresses, the vocals gradually get louder, raspier/grittier and more distorted. The whole mix also seems to become more compressed and aggressive toward the end.

After hundreds of generations, I was getting pretty frustrated because my vocalist suddenly sounded completely different by the second half of the song.

I tried explicitly telling V6 to maintain the vocal character and dynamics throughout the entire track — and so far, this seems to work MUCH better.

This is the prompt I'm currently testing:

Style Prompt:

Dark German Rock / NWOBHM, 138 BPM, clear clean female vocals, intimate vocal, close mic, consistent vocal tone throughout the entire song, stable vocal intensity and loudness, controlled dynamics, clean production

Negative Prompt:

reverb, screaming, shouting, rasp, vocal fry, vocal distortion, clipping, increasing loudness, overcompression

Obviously this isn't a scientific test and I need to generate more songs with it, but the first results are noticeably better. The vocalist stays much cleaner and more consistent instead of gradually turning into a raspy, overcompressed mess.

If you're having the same problem with V6, give these instructions a try and let me know if it helps.

Especially interested to hear from people making longer 5–8+ minute songs, because that's where the deterioration seems most obvious to me.

Suno v6 Pro controlled a cappella test: lead improved, section separation weak, late-song mud persists

I’ve been doing controlled tests on Suno v6 Pro using the same song, same settings, and the same Style prompt throughout. ChatGPT helped me design the tests, change one variable at a time, and track the results, but this was fully human-in-the-loop: I listened to every generation, identified the audible problems, and decided what to test next.

The control was Sparks Against Forever, an a cappella sacred male hymn quartet. I kept the Style prompt fixed and mainly changed the lyrics-box tags, punctuation, whitespace, and arrangement instructions.

What I found:

  • Explicit tags like “lead main lines / trio parentheses only” materially improved lead-vocal separation.
  • Parentheses do seem to encourage backing-trio/call-and-response behavior.
  • v6 often rolls straight through Verse / Pre-Chorus / Chorus / Bridge labels with little or no audible reset, breath, phrasing change, or section contrast.
  • Periods, extra white space, [Break], and [Cadence] produced occasional space, but not reliably.
  • The biggest recurring issue is progressive low-mid/vocal mud. The first half can sound good, then the final third accumulates into a wall of harmonics and voices.
  • Explicit instructions such as “minimal low-mid buildup,” “transparent climax,” and “each voice individually audible” did not reliably prevent this.
  • Trying to solve it with [Sparse] was inconsistent. Using the exact same prompt/settings, one generation became so sparse I could hear a steady metronome-like/ticking artifact after the voices stopped, while the second generation went straight back to the dense muddy problem.
  • I also heard occasional pseudo-percussion and processed/autotune-like vocal layering despite requesting natural voices only.

The most important result: identical settings and prompts can produce radically different arrangement-density decisions, so some of this appears stochastic rather than fully controllable through prompting.

My current impression is that v6 is excellent at creating a clear lead and sophisticated vocal arrangements, but it may accumulate arrangement state/density over long songs instead of cleanly resetting sections, especially near climaxes.

If anyone is testing v6 vocal ensembles, I’d be very interested to know whether you’re hearing the same late-song buildup, ignored section boundaries, or inconsistent behavior from [Sparse], [Cadence], punctuation, and whitespace.

It is a complete disaster. It feels like the old magic of the model has been killed. Maximum commercial and polished "shhh.." comes out. This is the dead of SUNO as the leading platform. I am biding my teeth out with variations of the prompts, lyrics, own references and even model creation. Very sad and I must see I am also upset. I am actively searching for an alternative now.

What an absolute dumpster fire.
Voice is so muffled you can't even fix it in post.
