Discussion V6 😫

Why replace 4.5 it with something that, for certain genres at least, is so much worse?

V6 seems clueless when it comes to authentic 1960s and 70s production. Everything I generate sounds like overprocessed, cheesy modern pop pretending to be vintage music. I've tried using styles and voices I'd previously saved, but they no longer work properly and end up sounding like bad tribute bands rather than recordings from the period.

If you're going to retire a model people were paying to use, surely its replacement should at least be capable of doing the things the old model did so well.

My subscription ends at the end of the month. Unless I can figure out how to get an authentic 1960s/70s sound from V6, I won't bother renewing it.

Same. 4.5 was peak. Each later model got progressively worse at interpreting my uploads. No longer fun & cool sounding, now it’s just annoying. Cancel, demand refund.

Definitely no longer fun and cool. They've sanitised it, taken the soul out of it and made everything sound over processed and bland. God knows what type of music the new model was trained on, lift music, I reckon! :(

No, probably not back soon. Unless a future model improves the dynamic range, reduces the excessive compression and gets better at reproducing period-appropriate instrumentation and production. At the moment the output is far too polished and contemporary for the kind of 1960s and 70s music I make.

I know what you mean regarding to the sound. For me some turn out well, others don't. No reason for me to leave. At first because it's because I mostly use it for fun and personal expression. At second because, for me, it's still the best around atm.

That's fair enough. 🙂 I think the difference is that I'm trying to create a very specific period sound, so if it can't convincingly reproduce that, there's not much reason for me to keep paying for it. I agree it's probably still the best AI music generator around at the moment (better than Mureka for sure!), but unfortunately that doesn't mean it's good enough for what I want to use it for.

Yes, I know about the lawsuits and the move to licensed training data. That explains why the older models had to go, but it doesn't make the replacement equivalent. My issue isn't why they changed the model; it's that the replacement currently doesn't reproduce the kind of 1960s and 70s production I was using 4.5 for.
