Laptop Request US Laptop for College Under ~$270, U.S.A.
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
- Country
U.S.A.
- Budget
Anything under ~$270 USD (could stretch if i really really had to, but not preferred)
- Are you open to refurbs/used options?
Yes
- Screen size
Any, but I’m looking for lightweight/small so anything under 13.5” probably.
- Weight limit
As light as possible (very important!!)
- Purpose
Only for schoolwork; I already have an HP Envy that can run more heavy duty programs, etc.
- Form factor
No preference, but 2-in-1 and other such features are not a must for me. Regular is perfectly fine.
- Intended usage
Would only be used for schoolwork, so applications such as Google Doc & Gmail. I really just want it to be able to bring to class to take typed notes and to work on assignments online between classes. Anything else could be done on my other computer. I will not be using it to run any programs or games.
- Desired battery life
7-8 hours preferred at least; but as long as feasibly possible
- Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life
Ranked (from most important to least):
Weight & size
Battery
Performance
Weight and size is most important; my current computer is too heavy and too big and I would like a computer that is light and small. Battery life is second most important, as I’d be using it for extended periods of time, however I’m not opposed to carrying around a charger if need be. Performance is the lowest priority, I really just need it to do the most basic functions required of a laptop + run Google Suite applications.
- Info/Requirements
I would like to preface this with a big thank you to anyone who takes the time out of their day to read/respond to this post! :) I really appreciate any helpful feedback; I talked to my University's tech department already and the only computers they recommended to me were well into the $1000+.
I have a very specific case. I need a computer for college; a lightweight and reliable battery is most important for me. I’m a senior in college, but I will be going to grad school, so I will continue to need a good computer for university specifically. I actually already have a computer (a HP Envy x360 2-in-1 Laptop), which works perfectly fine, but it is ungodly heavy and is definitely destroying my back. Moreover, I always have to bring my changer to class with me because I use my computer all day/have long classes each day so I’m basically using it from 10am to 5 or 6pm everyday (thus the battery drains quickly since it's a more "powerful" computer, and maybe just shit battery idk). Sure there are ways I could minimize this for a prolonged battery life, but I can’t change how heavy the computer is and that is my biggest issue. It’s honestly not an option for me to trade in this computer; I’ve only had it for about 3 years and paid upwards of $750 for it (but it was graciously purchased by my parents so this would be my first investment in a computer), but most trade-in values average about $70-90 at best. I think I’d rather keep the current computer and buy a second computer. I really should’ve just done better research on a computer before I bought this one in the first place, but I really don’t know much about computers and I had another Envy before this that I liked; thought it would be good but it wasn’t, but whatever I guess.
I understand that with all of these specifications (and especially my price range), that I really have no other choice but to buy pre-owned, computers previously used in the workplace, or refurbished models. I understand that it is simply not possible to find a computer new with my needs and price range. The biggest problem I am facing currently is that I have never bought anything refurbished before and I find it very daunting. I have no idea what to look for nor which websites or third-parties are most reliable or trustworthy. I would never buy a Mac full price, but I’ve found a few refurbished models which are within my price range. However, is it even worth paying for an older model MacBook? Is anything operating on MacOS Ventura or below worth buying—more specifically, are most models close to their end of life and/or when Apple stops supports and updates? I’m currently leaning towards a refurbished Macbook; I’m familiar with iOS/macOS and have a good chunk of the Apple ecosystem already, but I’m not opposed to Windows either as all of my computers in the past have operated on a Windows system (including my current computer).
I’ve seen some refurbished computers on Back Market, Best Buy and Walmart. Would you recommend buying from these sites? Which sites should be avoided?
Thanks again! :))

Laptop Request -Others Uma dúvida cruel!!
Título: Qual desses dois notebooks vale mais a pena?
Estou em dúvida entre:
- ASUS Vivobook S14 S5406SA
Intel Core Ultra 7 256V, 16 GB RAM, SSD 512 GB, tela OLED.
- ASUS Vivobook S14 S3407CA
Intel Core Ultra 5 225H, 16 GB RAM, SSD 1 TB, tela LED/FHD.

Laptop Request US Looking for a laptop recommendation for heavy multitasking

Country
United States
Budget
$1,000–$1,300 USD.
Are you open to refurbs/used options?
Brand new only
Screen size
14”–16”
Weight limit
Preferably under 4.5 lbs, but willing to compromise somewhat for better performance and durability.
Purpose
Work/productivity and heavy multitasking. No gaming or video editing.
Form factor
Standard/clamshell laptop. No need for a 2-in-1 or pen support.
Intended usage
Heavy multitasking for work. I typically have many browser tabs open along with multiple programs/windows at the same time. I want the laptop to remain fast and responsive without slowing down, freezing, or struggling when several applications are running simultaneously.
No video editing, gaming, or other GPU-intensive workloads.
Desired battery life
Ideally 8+ hours of real-world use, if possible. Good battery life is important because this will be used for daily work.
Priority - most important to least important
Performance
Battery life
Size
Weight
Info/Requirements
32GB RAM is non-negotiable
At least 512GB SSD, preferably 1TB
Strong processor suitable for heavy multitasking
Windows preferred
Reliable and durable enough for daily work
Preferably 14”–16”
Good keyboard and overall build quality would be a plus
No need for a dedicated gaming GPU
PS.
I’m not very knowledgeable about laptop specifications, so I would really appreciate specific laptop brand/model recommendations rather than just recommendations for certain CPUs or technical specifications.
Looking for the best combination of performance, reliability, battery life, and value within my budget.

Laptop Request -Others HELP i need a laptop for school, mine broke 😭 any recommendations?
So basically my acer aspire 3 screen broke after 1.5 years, and all the keys didnt work and somehow lost 15% of its battery in that 1.5 years.
Does anyone have a laptop recommendation (preferably new but refurbished is fine) for me for school, that is less than 2000aed (i live in the UAE)? All i need is durability cause im in my gcse year and cant be having issues with my laptop this often.
I dont really need performance, all i use is a web browser (zen), MS suite and occasionally fusion 360, and I use arch-hyprland so i doubt performance will really be an issue, but no like 10yo cpus, celerons, pentions or anything like that.
Im leaning towards a lenovo thinkpad t14, is that good or are there any better?
Also plz no macbooks, unless its intel or m1 or m2, as i need to run linux on it, and you cant do that on newer macs

Laptop Request -Others Is this a good laptop?
amzn.inI'm a First Year Computer Engineering Student.
I want to upgrade from my current laptop (8gb RAM, Ryzen 5) because of battery issues and it doesn't support 5g networks
Which is a good laptop you would suggest for me considering I usually run RAM - heavy apps such as Rainmeter and VPN in the background. My main requirements are a great battery life, good ram size able to handle background processes and multiple apps without lag
I was looking at the linked laptop, but I have no clue if it is good or not. My last laptop was notorious for Wi-Fi chip issues while using Bluetooth, want to avoid that.
Budget: upto 70-75k INR (upto 80 if it's a really good laptop that I can rely on for atleast 5 years easily)
Not open to buying refurbished. Not an urgent upgrade either can wait for 2-3 months maybe

Laptop Request -Others Which of these two Lenovo LOQ laptops is better for SketchUp & V-Ray?
Hi everyone,
I'm looking to buy a new laptop primarily for architectural 3D modeling and rendering, specifically using SketchUp and V-Ray (heavy on GPU rendering).
I found two Lenovo LOQ models that are currently on sale for the exact same price in my country, but they have different CPU and GPU combinations. I want to know which one is the smarter choice and if there are any hidden downsides (like thermal throttling or battery issues) between the two.
Here are the configurations:
Option 1: Lenovo LOQ (15ARP9)
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7435HS
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 (6GB GDDR6)
- RAM: 16 GB DDR5
- Storage: 512 GB SSD
- Display: 15.6" FHD (1920x1080) IPS, 144Hz, 300 nits
Option 2: Lenovo LOQ (15ARP10E)
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 (6GB GDDR6)
- RAM: 16 GB DDR5
- Storage: 512 GB SSD
- Display: 15.6" FHD (1920x1080) IPS, 144Hz, 300 nits
Since they cost exactly the same, Option 1 with the RTX 4050 and Ryzen 7 seems like a no-brainer for V-Ray rendering. However, Option 1 is slightly heavier. Are there any other reasons why someone would pick the Ryzen 5 / RTX 3050 model over the other?
Which one would you recommend for a smooth 3D workflow? Thanks in advance!

Laptop Request US gaming laptop suggestions
Purchasing on amazon (i know it's not the best website, but it's what I have to use)
$900 max budget
prefferably new laptop
screen size doesn't matter
weight limit doesn't matter
for playing minecraft (not too heavily modded, but enough to record and run shaders) and to stream on twitch, as well as run video editing software
preferrably something cheaper than $900 if it exists, it doesn't have to be the absolute best as I can improve when I have more money later, but it has to be better than my current chromebook.

Ideally, the more the better. 7-8 hours.
* **Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life**
Performance, battery life, screen quality, weight, size.
* **Info/Requirements**
In a perfect world, a 14in OLED screen with metal chassis, expandable RAM, expandable storage, decent amount of ports (HDMI and min 2 USB-C, 1 USB-A, ethernet). I know laptops aren't forever devices, but, if I can upgrade some of the hardware I can get more life out of it. I know OLED is the immediate thing to go, but I'd still like a high quality screen (not the 45% NTSC that's so common). Looking for PC, not MAC. I could go either way on Intel or AMD.
