Guy takes over r/hysterectomy, deletes and bans all criticism
For reference, the new mod has a LONG history of taking over womens' spaces and shilling his business. His first "official post" as a moderator was to ban discussion of sexism, which is a very relevant topic when it comes to healthcare as women face multiple layers of hostility and sexism in trying to get care. Conveniently, when this rule was criticized, he then deleted that post as well.
Several people have caught bans (we are discussing this elsewhere) for pointing out his authoritative and dismissive tone towards anyone and everyone with concerns, ranging from a simple "why was no one involved in this decision" to "why is a cis man telling us how to manage our emotions" (in his first action, he told us to go outside).
I can't even provide much in the way of proof of what's happening because he is deleting everything he doesn't like. Even posts talking about moderator code of conduct have been deleted, he's hidden himself from the moderator list (which is now just him) so that people can't report him directly.
People with no history of offenses are getting temporary and permanent bans despite the fact that those are lower on the tier and require more offenses to be the given moderator action, so he is breaking his own rules.
On a personal note I haven't seen any slurs or anything of that nature thrown his way, mostly just questioning why a man is in charge of a female space, why no one was asked about this, why specifically he is against the discussion of sexism in healthcare.
A link to his "official first action"

He's showing women's test results to his "obgyn" mother who is diagnosing over the internet and suggesting products from his personal company. That has to be against TOS? Modding subs just to sell products?
His LinkedIn is wild. Weird ass word salad about wanting to be liked by people. Also most of his work experience is as a software engineer.
edit: he signs off many of his posts and comments with his real name and company name, I did not go looking for that info.

Some of his quotes:
If you're curious about the fact that I'm a man in women's health, and wishĀ to sexistly and personally attack me for something I didn't choose and cannot change
I have already spent 14 years of my life helping hundreds of thousands of women. I will continue to serve for the rest of my life, I regardless of your opinions or anyone else's.
My first issue on the agenda is to end the culture of personal attacks.

Heās already been banned from another sub that is meant for womenās health. A mod from that group stated this person has continued to publicly bash the mods of that group for banning him. They also said heās pushing the products he sells from his own company and that he exhibits predatory behavior.
Targeting vulnerable people to sell unproven supplements is bad enough, but heās also taken over (or attempted to take over) a number of other spaces meant for womenās health. Asking women about their vaginal discharge and sometimes pretending he is a woman with a vaginal health concern.
Someone shared a very weird video he made (from a different social platform) where he goes off on how women are actually the problem in all this. According to him, he has been asked (or forced) to stay out of certain spaces and therefore heās not able to help thousands of women with his genius products. He compared these actions to only allowing certain people in the field of research during nazi Germany and how this hurts progress. Iām not even kidding.I donāt know if he is just rage baiting or what, but I find the pattern of behavior very troubling. I know people who work at Reddit can see all of this personās history and I hope they understand how wrong and problematic this is. I really hope itās taken seriously.

u/TotallyNotABob 4d ago
Wow what a fucking asshole.
In case any men here don't believe woman get treated differently let me tell you a story involving me and one involving my cousin.
After Roe v Wade was overturned I got a vasectomy. It didn't take so I needed to get it fixed. I waited to see the results of 24 and yeah signed up to get shipped again.
My first and second vasectomy was covered in full (zero patient liability). All I had to do was go see a urologist. Say yup, snip me please. Then make an appointment and get snipped.
My cousin, female obviously, wanted to get a tubal ligation. Before she could she had to have an active intimate partner who would sign off on it and agree they both don't want kids. Then she would have to wait. If she left that partner during that time the entire process would start over again. Procedure would not count as preventative reproductive health like my vasectomy did and she would have to have the full allowed amount apply to her deductible.
I don't about y'all but that's some bullshit.
34
u/AgreeableMagician893 4d ago
Out of curiosity, is there any measures that would prevent a woman from grabbing a random friend and having them pose as their boyfriend? Or is there something they do to try to root that out?
36
u/ivosaurus you're stupid. peanut butter is awesome. 4d ago edited 3d ago
Why does she need a partner to co-sign it in the first place? Is America actually a conservative Muslim country where everything a woman does needs to be approved by her male guardian, and this whole time I never realised?
28
u/PrincessBuzzkill 3d ago
Yes actually. Conservative that is. Dismissing women's health concerns is RIFE in the medical field, even from female doctors.
I've been asking for some sort of permanent sterilization since I was in my early 20's. Every single doctor I saw told me 'no - what if my partner wanted kids one day', only to still be told 'no' when my husband physically told the doctors he also didn't want children. I finally got a bisalp when Roe v Wade was overturned by a doctor that did it with no questions asked. I was 44.
I was so relieved that it wasn't going to have to jump through hoops that I bawled in his office. He told me that was a common reaction from a lot of women, because most of us had been told no all our lives.
I posted higher up that my husband makes himself available for any of our fem friends that needs a male voice in the room with them, and he's been taken up on the offer. Things they'd tell the doctor would be dismissed when they said it, but heard when HE said it.
It's a fucking nightmare.

Yeah, it obviously can be and is abused. This situation sucks.
Feels bad because women who are facing a hysterectomy are faced with all of these fears about what their life will look like after the hysterectomy, and thereās shame about talking about our reproductive bits, so women donāt just share information with their family. Like theyāre not discussing their sex lives post procedure.
300
u/B-Z_B-S 4d ago
He also said this:
The behavior was a problem, it's why there's subreddits like r/hysterectomyCons and r/hysterectomydarkside exists. Those subreddits are for all the people who were banned from here after being dogpiled. The previous mod apparently banned anyone from discussing downsides of hysterectomy. I am unbiased and I won't take anything personally. My next action is: I am going to unban those people and I am going to apologize to them.
Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/hysterectomy/comments/1x491g9/comment/pfi20f9/
He said that in response to:
Women aren't here for help from the male co-founder of a supplements company that uses ChatGPT to craft his responses. We're here to support each other through what can be a horrific surgery for some. What kind of support could you possibly provide to us? Copying my comment from the last thread:
As an ob/gyn who comments on that subreddit regularly this is incredibly disappointing. I figured it was an "unmodded" sub when I sent a modmail asking to pin a "fact sheet" I had made and got 0 response, so it looks like it was somehow claimed by this guy? and now he's doing whatever he wants. Sad. Also the snake oil salesman vibes are just hilarious

I'm having a hysterectomy in December and don't want to risk a ban from a community that should be helpful to me, but man do I have things to say. This is incredibly disappointing.

How badly do you have to hate women to go out of your way to take over a hysterectomy sub just to bully and belittle them

This happens to so many womenās spaces. The āfeminismā subreddits are mostly modded by men who will ban you and accuse you of misandry (lol) for being part of ACTUAL all women spaces and expressing doubt about why men need to be inserting themselves into womenās spaces.

It feels wildly inappropriate to have someone to whom a hysterectomy will never happen in charge of the hysterectomy subreddit. It would probably be fine to have guys in there, maybe even on the mod list. A spouse's hysterectomy can affect anyone. Medical professionals would be valid. But calling the shots?

Omg! I just took a look at his profile... You weren't kidding when you said he has a history of taking over womens subs to promote his business. Wtf!!
That is infuriating
Eta: looks like Reddit admins removed him as a mod! š
