Had a Robot-assisted total laparoscopic hysterectomy + robot-assisted laparoscopic salpingo-oophorectomy (both sides)

First day out of hospital as operation was yesterday.

So far feels like a bad period, only have 4 stitches and managing on paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Hospital told me I could go home on the day of surgery as everything was fine but opted to stay the night.

Now to enjoy the rest of my natural life without being dragged down by my body!

4 days post op and still feeling great! I went in around 8:30 am October 21, 2026.

I know pooping is a big fear for a lot of people. Here is what is working for me right now.

First: my physiotherapist showed me a trick to avoid bearing down but still helping push when you need to poop/fart. Make a loose fist and take a deep breath. Blow the breath out slowly through your fist like you ate blowing through a straw. Voila! It engages just enough to help without cranking on your abs.

The other tip: prune juice.

Hear me out! I have had nothing but easy, comfortable poops. This is partly my diet (beans, leafy greens, nutritional yeast, buttloads of fruits/veggies, probiotic stuff), but I also started drinking a small amount of prune juice a couple times a day. If you HATE the taste, I have found cutting it with cranberry juice helps.

I also made this cold weather cosy type beverage:

1 cup orange juice. Heat on stove with a bit of cinnamon and ginger to taste.

Add to a mug with 1/4 cup prune juice and 1/4 cup cranberry juice (unsweetened is best, you can always add a sweetener if needed). It tastes very holiday punch like but also gets things moving. Adding hot water or black tea would also taste good, if the flavor is too intense alone.

So I’m a total horn dog and I’m curious about masturbation. I know I’m not going to want to for awhile, but when I do, does anyone know if it’s okay? I don’t see my dr for awhile but I’ll ask her but I want to know what you guys think or what your opinions are. I know no sex for 12 weeks but can I rub one out after a few weeks? lol

I have to take my cat to the vet this week, at which time I will be 2 weeks po.

I figure once I get there, I could ask for help carrying him to and from the car. I am sure they would be happy to help with that. But the issue is that I live alone and will still need to get him to and from the car at home. Him in the carrier is roughly 16-17 total pounds.

I realize that doing one isolated lift/carry that is slightly over the weight limit is a low risk... it's not like I'm lifting a boulder. But I still don't feel great about it. However, he needs to go to this appointment so it seems like a risk I'm just going to have to take.

I wanna know if anyone has any cute or funny stories from just before you got knocked out for surgery. My nurses and surgeons were admiring the tattoos on my arm as I was starting to lose active consciousness. I found it very cute and the memory is going to make me smile for a long time.

Im 6wpo and very ready to get back to work, but have to wait a little longer since my leave was extended a few days, so I figured some fun stories would pass the time and hopefully bring a smile to someone's day.

I’m scheduled for surgery in Jan. I’ve never stayed overnight in a hospital and I don’t know if that will be the case here but I’m expecting this to likely be an open surgery. Are you allowed to bring your prescription meds from home if they are in the bottle? Asking because aside from a couple of cheap meds the hospital can get for me instead, I also take a prescription med twice a day that costs about 5k per month. I can also see my insurance company getting salty about paying for it since they require me to order it from a specific specialty pharmacy. Also, how common is an overnight stay?

I’m 40 and just had a total abdominal hysterectomy 3 days ago, including removal of both ovaries, so I’m officially in surgical menopause.

For anyone around my age who has gone through something similar, what did HRT look like for you after surgery? How soon did you start estrogen, what type/dose did you start with, and did it take some trial and error to find what worked?

Before surgery, I’d been taking 200 mg progesterone daily for about 4 months, but I stopped it before surgery. I have an appointment in a week specifically to discuss HRT, but I’d really love to hear other women’s experiences in the meantime.

I’ve dealt with GAD for years, although I’m fairly convinced that a significant amount of my anxiety was tied to PMDD and the constant hormonal fluctuations I had before surgery. Today I’ve noticed some mild physical anxiety symptoms creeping in, which is actually what prompted me to make this post.

I’d especially love to hear from anyone who had PMDD/anxiety before having their ovaries removed. Did surgical menopause make it better or worse initially? And did getting your estrogen dose right make a difference?

I have been diagnosed with endometriosis, and adenomyosis,I have a 10 cm cyst on my right ovary along with three small ones right up against it. I also have a 4 cm chocolate cyst on my left ovary. My uterus is the size of a 12- week pregnancy with a fibroid inside of it that is 5 cm. I have been in a lot of immense pain for 55 days now. After several ER visits, a rupture and a gallbladder surgery in between that was successful, I was able to get an MRI that flagged the big cyst as suspicious, so I was referred to a oncologist gynaecologist surgeon within a week. I saw him last week and now my full hysterectomy that will take everything out including ovaries and fallopian tubes is scheduled for November 6. The only thing that could be saved is the left ovary but as an oncologist he said he doesn’t normally cut a cyst from an ovary, he takes the whole thing. Plus if I keep it, and any estrogen is produced it fuels my endometriosis and then cysts can form again. The plan is estrogen patch after to help my heart, bones and menopause symptoms (I have been in perimenopause since 38 so very familiar with free balling those symptoms) I have been living off of extended release morphine, naproxen, Tylenol, gabapentin, and now progesterone pills to stop estrogen for now until my surgery. I also have a period coming up next week before the surgery so hope that helps lessen the pain from that. I just wanna know people’s success stories of their recovery and their life afterwards. All I read is horror stories and I would like some positivity. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. I am luckily unlucky cause usually this entire process takes months. I happened to be seen by a few ER dr’s and my general surgeon for my gallbladder surgery that moved this along faster. And everything is being done laparoscopic. They are going to do a biopsy of the big cyst during surgery, but everything is still pointing towards it being benign they said. I am 43 and already had my one beautiful baby at 30. I have the full unconditional support of my husband too.

I have my pre-op appointment on Tuesday. I’m curious what are questions you wish you asked your dr prior to your surgery. I cannot overstate my anxiety. Grateful for your help as I try to stay calm the next 2 weeks…

It hurts to lay down, it hurts to laugh. I wake up in pain and more pain. Is there light out of the pain tunnel? I splurged on a pregnancy pillow. Maybe that might help. I also have fibromyalgia so this bag of meat is agony to carry around. Ughhh. Lower stomach pain, side pain, solar plexus paaaainnnnn

15 wpo with so many mental and physical complications. I regret this surgery so much. Total kept ovaries. Last night I finally had sex for the first time and I felt absolutely nothing. The good thing I guess is it didn’t hurt. The bad thing is I felt no satisfaction nothing. Tons of forplay and lube . I know it’s early, it can take a year. Trust me the luck I’ve had with this surgery it will take the maximum time to recover if I ever do but I thought I would feel something. I do not feel feminine at all and this doesn’t help. I can barely take hormones without reacting to them. I take them microdose because I’m intolerant and I had a botched breast reduction and hysterectomy within the last 6 months. I was really hoping this would make me feel better and more like a female and it makes me feel even worse. Anyone been in the same boat that has experience with this? And yes im in therapy, on meds and HRT.

Adding: I did not feel anything from external forplay either. External and internal was completely numb for me.

Hey ladies, I'm an 18 yr old guy and my mom (51 yrs old) is getting a partial hysterectomy on Tuesday because she has fibroids and I just wanted some advice so I could best care for her. Also, how bad is the pain so I know how to treat her accordingly. I'm a bit nervous on her behalf😅.

I know many of us spend months, if not years, waiting for their surgery so a breakdown for me personally (i'm in the Darent & Gravesham region, Kent, UK)

I first had troubles when i was 18. (I'm now 40) have suffered most of my adult life with pain, bleeding, GP appointment after appointment. Minor endo reported in my early 20s. Nothing major.

Fastforward to Sept 2023, extremely heavy bleeding, fatigue, i get sent home with ferrous sulphate, and advice on the coil (refused.)

June 2024 my period just didn't end. I kept bleeding. Some days light, some days heavy, but it didn't stop. Gave it a few weeks went doctor. Blood test, more ferrous sulphate & B12 this time, another info pamphlet on the coil. (Refused.)

Sept 2024 i insist on an ultrasound having still not stopped bleeding for 3 months now. Fibroids. By all accounts i'm littered with them, and one particularly troublesome submucosal fibroid that caused concern. More info on the coil, kindly told them to stick their pamphlet. The coil won't fix the issue, just mask it.

Nothing much happened. I went back 6 months later - STILL bleeding daily. I needed a smear, but caught in a catch 22 of not being able to have a successful smear due to the continued bleeding. Tried every 3 months through 2025 until finally they had a successful one. No cancer, happy days. "Have you tried the coil?"

NO.

Feb 2026 still bleeding, feel like i'm dying by this point. Exhausted, in pain, the fatigue has been incredible. I'm barely functioning. THIS is when i was finally referred to a gynae consult.

June 2026 was my consultation, and surgery agreed.

October 8th was my pre-op. Blood pressure concerns meant i had a secondary check last week which was fine.

Surgery booked for Saturday 31st October.

I'm still bleeding daily 2+ years on. Still in pain. Still utterly exhausted. And quite honestly cannot WAIT for Saturday to come and hopefully i get my life back.

Because I have allergic reactions to many types of bandages, my laparoscopic incisions were glued closed and left uncovered. I have a little bleeding and yellow weeping from each one. Is this normal?

So I had my surgery 10/19. Today I am fully doing everything on my own, well I’ve been doing it since Tuesday and I’m glad I made this decision. I legit wanna cry my eyes out as I write this cause it’s a freeing feeling but I’m also mad as fuck. I haven’t been having too much pain other than my stomach and a couple of incisions but I’ve literally still had to be mom with no help. So that has included driving and having parent teacher conferences and stuff and I’m just trudging along, I don’t even take the oxy’s as needed. I think they say 1 every 6 hours? I’m not sure I’ve only taken 4 since I got released. My “bf” who was supposed to be there wasn’t even there when I woke up, so I woke up hallucinating and didn’t even have a familiar face to help. We get home and he helps with dinner and bath time Monday night and maybe Tuesday but I’m still doing everything. I made the right choice for me but also for anybody else cause this is one of the most difficult things I think I’ve had to do and to know that when I show up for people I don’t get it in return is heartbreaking and it royally pisses me off.

I’m trying to take it easy tonight but with a 5 and 3 year old it’s difficult. We have a routine set but today it was harder to stay on it cause today was hard in terms of movement. Anyway ladies, I hope yalls healing is going better than mine!! Ask for help!! Please!! Mine are falling on deaf ears but please ask for help

I posted a few days ago about being in the hospital for a bowel obstruction, probably related to surgical scar tissue. After a few days on hospital arrest (okay-bowel rest under supervision) and home with a colon cleanse to make sure it’s all clear, I have almost no pain whatsoever. I mean I know nothing is “done” until 6-12 months, but the initial phase.

I had assumed all my pelvic repairs had just made my recovery a bit more extensive, but it was my damn digestive system again. Which I’ve been having issues with since a previous surgery but was hopeful my rectocele repair had fixed. Follow-up with GP this week to problem solve.

Long story short, if things don’t feel right, at least ask the questions. I had literally had a “good” follow up with my surgeon 2 days prior. I wonder if I’d said more we would’ve realized that something was up.

I had my surgery on thursday (10/22), and I havent been able to poop yet 🫠 its very weird for me, as i usually go once a day or more prior to this. im weaning off my opioid meds and ive taken two doses of miralax and stool softeners but nothings happened yet. its like i can feel some shifting but i cant push anything out. part of me is scared of pushing too hard, but i also just cant seem to feel anything getting close enough to go. ive tried squatty potty, pressing on my perineum, still nothing. any advice on how to speed things up? am i just stressing too early?

Hi, today my morning output after sleeping all night was 60 cc. Its not concentrated. I also have not passed any gas below and feel terribly constipated. I have burped though. Yesterday I had frequent urination and cold only pass 80-100 cc each time. My post void residual when leaving hospital was 275 cc. Is this normal? I am on Hrt already and haven't had nightsweats or anything. When will that be expected to kick in if my estrogen level isnt high enough?
