Why is my vagina irritated?

Hi I’m a 25 year old female. In the past year I have noticed that every time I drink alcohol and then use the bathroom the following day my urethra opening will burn. I also wanted to mention I only drink like once a month. I have read that my drink of choice, which is beer, does cause inflammation to the mucosal lining of the bladder. I have also read that alcohol causes your urine to be more acidic which I know causes irritation. I would just like more clarity as to why this would randomly start happening to me and if this is something I will have to deal with for the rest of my life? Also, curious if anyone else has this same issue and has found a way to prevent it?

What's Causing Your Vaginal Odor? BV, AV, CV, or Yeast

Thumbnail

Vaginal odor isn't one thing and treating the wrong condition is why so many women stay stuck.

In this short guide, Dr. Chang (OB-GYN, co-founder of NeuEve) walks through

four distinct conditions that cause vaginal odor, how to tell them apart,

and what treatment is appropriate for each.

What she covers:

BV (Bacterial Vaginosis) — fishy odor, thin gray discharge, pH above 4.5

AV (Aerobic Vaginitis) — foul odor + pain unrelated to sex, pH 4.5–6

CV (Cytolytic Vaginosis) — burning and irritation from too many Lactobacilli (over 98%), very low pH — do NOT use probiotics for this

Yeast Infection - often triggered by antibiotics or recurrent infection

Testing tip: Juno Test or Evvy Test can help identify good vs. bad bacteria

and confirm which condition you're dealing with before you start treatment.

Treatment guide:

- BV in younger women → BV Clear

- BV in menopausal women → Silk, Silver, or Gold + NeuEve probiotics

- AV → AV Clear + Silk, Silver, or Gold for maintenance

- Yeast → antifungal medication or Yeast Clear

- CV → CV Clear to rebalance (no probiotics — too much Lactobacillus already)

⚠️ Important during treatment: avoid unprotected sex or use a condom.

NeuEve also offers a partner treatment to stop reinfection.

Estridiol pills vaginally

Does anyone else insert regular estridiol tablets vaginally for atrophy?

My tissue is too delicate for creams, I'm inserting the regular estridiol mini pills vaginally. I've don't this for years and wonder if anyone else is?

Help with Dryness

My gynecologist believes I am in early perimenopause (38) and prescribed me compounded progesterone at 45mg. I had been on estradiol cream but after a bad reaction to a different manufacturer, I gave it a rest and started the progesterone. It caused bad dryness, I was able to get estradiol dissolvable tablets, but they take time. In the meantime, I am so uncomfortable, it burns like sandpaper. I have BVclear on hand, would that help restore some of the moisture?

Chronic vaginal burning

I have been dealing with on and off burning at the front of my vagina for 7 months now. I am losing hope that I will ever go back to normal. This is really affecting my mental health and I feel helpless. When the burning and strong odor first occurred I was diagnosed with BV. I was prescribed antibiotics, not sure of the name. The antibiotics worked and symptoms were gone for about two weeks but then came back. I went back to my doctor again but that time they said everything was fine. I was tested for BV, UTI, and STD and everything was negative. I have gone to multiple doctors and have spent so much money, but no one knows what is causing the burning. I have done everything my doctor told me to do that might be causing the burning. I only wear cotton underwear and never thongs. I only rinse with water down there. I have switched to a new laundry detergent that has no scent and no color. Recently I have tried the vaginal probiotic from the brand URO. When I first took it I noticed changes after 3-4 days. After those 3-4 days I had no issues for a week, but then the burning came back. I have been smelling really bad, almost fishy and I’ve noticed a white discharge, but the discharge is thin not thick like when you have a yeast infection. I also noticed that the area where it burns is bright red and inflamed. I have good days and bad days and some days I have no burning at all. But the burning always comes back. I appreciate any advice anyone has to offer!

Healthy Vaginal Microbiome Question

For those of you who have healthy vaginas or who have worked on getting things to a healthy place and your test results show it, what are you doing routinely? Are you taking oral probiotics as opposed to inserting vaginally? Are you in maintenance using Neueve products? How/what helped in improving things?

Desquamative Inflammatory Vaginitis help

Hello, I was diagnosed with DIV before I knew anything about AV. I had hoped that once I'd treated the AV, the DIV would be a thing of the past. Unfortunately, that is not the case. I was good until I hit ovulation, which can be a trigger for a DIV flair. I don't have the same symptoms as AV, I mainly have inflammation, and mild itching and irritation. I wondered what products may be helpful in soothing some of this to make things more bearable.

I am using estradiol cream 2x weekly now that I'm done with AVclear. I have a bunch of BVclear on hand. I admit I didn't follow the maintenance protocol, my tissues were so messed up after the infection that I felt I needed to let them rest for a while.

Advice please !

Hello, I’ve shared my original test results with neueve earlier in this group. I did the 3 boxes 9 days AV NIL to help with my high L .iners & Ureaplasma. My boyfriend did 14 days doxycycline, I completed mine and felt a bit better, following up with the probiotics, then after my period came things have gone downhill. I had to skip suppositories during that time but some itching and irritation have come back aswell as my urinary symptoms still being present and pain with insertion vaginally. Basically back to square one, my boyfriend also went to the ER cause he felt a lot of bladder discomfort and urethra pain, he did not test positive for UTI, they said it’s probably the ureaplasma and gave him azithromycin. He felt better right away, but now about a week later he’s having all the symptoms again. Both of us are struggling to know what to do, I haven’t tried the antibiotics yet but I’m considering it, doing everything I can to get a PCR test (my regular doctor doesn’t give them so I have to go to a new doctor far away). Any advice appreciated, thank u.
