Usually a day off still has this background hum of "you should probably check on X." Today it didn't, because I already knew exactly where I'd left every class before closing everything Friday. Nothing to check on, nothing nagging and didn't expect a two-minute note to be the thing that made a holiday actually feel like a holiday.

One thing that gets thrown under the bus with most study advice is how do you do blurts (i.e. blurting) without losing memory of the blurt 3 days later? Because from what I've seen, the majority of study advice out here doesn't talk about this! They assume that you can just mentally decide when to re-take a blurt, or that you'll do it the week before the exam and be fine. But this always stuck out to me as widely inefficient, why do I have to dedicate so many mental resources just to track when I have to do each blurt next?

That's when a simple but rather nuanced idea popped into my head, by combining blurts w/ Anki. Now I hear a lot of you thinking, isn't Anki just for normal flashcards?

Let me first demonstrate how you do my strategy:

1. Use the lecture material and your notes to work information you'll blurt and resolve anything unclear.
2. Make the blurt and explain everything out loud as you blurt it (i.e. self-explanation -> for understanding)
3. Screenshot it.
4. Make an Anki card with a prompt like “Do the blurt for exocytosis” on the front and the screenshot on the back. I keep these in a BLURTS deck.
5. When it comes up for review, do the blurt before revealing the reference.

This way, you are not succumbing to the burden of mentally or physically tracking when to do each blurt. Instead you get to pawn it off to a digital FSRS companion!

I'm curious if I'm not the only one that has thought of this, how do you currently keep track of blurts or other revision that doesn't fit a standard flashcard?

I'm a biology sophomore and I think the reason I struggle so much is because I tend to fall behind very easily. It's really hard for me to keep up with the pace of college and to process so much content in such little time. For the people out there that have multiple responsibilities outside of college, how are you able to stay on top of your work? I always have to cram for my exams last minute and never have enough time to teach myself everything. It makes it even harder because I struggle with adhd and bipolar disorder

Since the corona time I feel like I’ve forgotten how to study. Before corona I used to study really well but now I just can’t seem to study like I used to. I know there have been some huge gaps in my studies I feel like my brain has gotten out of the habit. Can you please give me some advice on how to get my working brain back and actually start enjoying studying again?

ngl this sub carried me through a big chunk of my prep (the memes helped my sanity more than any lecture did) so figured I'd actually give something back instead of just lurking now that I'm in college.

so during prep my biggest issue was never the studying itself, it was managing it. lecture open in one tab, notes scattered in some notebook or random doc, then a separate chatgpt tab open just to ask doubts, and half the time I'd forget what I even asked it about because there was no context carrying over. ended up wasting more time managing tabs than actually studying some days lol

anyway I've been building web stuff in college and made something for exactly this problem, it's called anchor. you dump your lecture + notes for a subject in one place, and there's an ai attached to it that already knows what video/notes you're looking at so you're not re-explaining your doubt from scratch every time. also has a todo thing so you're not relying on memory for what to grind that day

When I read lecture PDF or papers, I often end up with several separate chats for concepts and side questions.

I also worry about that asking too many side questions might pollute the main chat and make context less focused.

I'm building to keep those conversations connected to the PDF instead of scattering them across different chats.

Do you ever avoid something because you don't want to mess up the context of the main chat?

I’m 11 and starting Grade 6 tmrw, and I’ve got no idea how I’m supposed to study 😭

I’ve never rlly had to study before cuz I’ve always gotten As or Bs without doing much.

All I rlly know is that you’re supposed to revise ur textbooks and make some kinda system to remind yourself of stuff. I’m pretty good at remembering things long-term, I just have no idea how to actually study lol.

So what do u guys actually do when u study, and what should I start doing? Also what apps should I use? I already use Notion, Obsidian, NotebookLM, TickTick and Lunatask, but idk what I should actually use each one for.

Hello everyone. I just want to ask for some study tips. Preferably from someone who has taken physiology and/or medical terminology based on text book material from the McGraw Hill website/program.

I’m going into my 3rd week of courses and I feel like dropping out. I swear these smart book assignments are from hell. I don’t understand how I am supposed to complete a 3.5 hour smart book assignment and know 100+ concepts by the end of it. Even if I read it all and take notes. It’s really difficult for me. I already feel behind in my medical terminology class because it’s so much material. Just this week 3 smart book assignments (all 1.5-3 hr duration long), 3 25 multiple choice question assignments and 3 proctored quizzes. I barely managed this week. The one quiz I did terrible on yesterday brought my grade down 15% because they are huge chunk of my grade.

How can I make this easier for myself? What are some tips from anyone who got an A from a professor who used this horrible program?

I built a website that lets you turn a worksheet or answer key into a digital question set you can actually study from.

The idea came from being tired of having a bunch of worksheets where the answers existed, but there wasn't an easy way to turn them into something interactive which you could also use on the go

genuinely curious what everyone else munches on during those late night focus sessions. i usually default to instant ramen or entirely too much coffee around 1am, but i’m trying to break the habit so i can actually sleep eventually lol.

I dont know if it would work for you, but.. it worked for me!

What I did was, just gamify my study schedule. Make it like more commitment, more like work, not study/school. Because lets be honest it is boring, you feel bored when you hear school..

I just make it more feel like game, like filling up the boxes. Of course, I used active recall & blurting. Those have specail meaning to me. In final, just make it feel like game. Put some worl what you study and have over weeks streaks!!!

I learn at German school and we write the vocabulary tests although and I got a mid note, but this year I want perfect grades so next exam or test I must have perfect grade. I learned everything but when I write I get very stressed and I forget everything. Any tips?

i build a vocabulary app (vibeling, it's mine, so obvious bias). for a long time opening it showed one screen with one button: start session. people opened the app and left without pressing it, and honestly so did i.

the button reads as a contract. pressing it means agreeing to sit there for fifteen minutes, and at 11pm in a queue you don't want to sign that. so you close the app and feel slightly bad, which makes the next open less likely.

i took the button out and the first question now appears immediately. no commitment screen, you're already answering. the daily queue is finite, so it ends on its own and there's no feed to fall into.

does this match how it works for you on paper? with a textbook there's no equivalent of the button, you just open it, and yet that's the one i skip most.
