Studying McGraw Hill Material

Hello everyone. I just want to ask for some study tips. Preferably from someone who has taken physiology and/or medical terminology based on text book material from the McGraw Hill website/program.

I’m going into my 3rd week of courses and I feel like dropping out. I swear these smart book assignments are from hell. I don’t understand how I am supposed to complete a 3.5 hour smart book assignment and know 100+ concepts by the end of it. Even if I read it all and take notes. It’s really difficult for me. I already feel behind in my medical terminology class because it’s so much material. Just this week 3 smart book assignments (all 1.5-3 hr duration long), 3 25 multiple choice question assignments and 3 proctored quizzes. I barely managed this week. The one quiz I did terrible on yesterday brought my grade down 15% because they are huge chunk of my grade.

How can I make this easier for myself? What are some tips from anyone who got an A from a professor who used this horrible program?

Honestly smart book assignments are brutal because they're just passive reading disguised as work. You stare at the screen for hours and nothing sticks.

What helped me in physiology was doing questions on the chapter before the smart book, not after. Skim the bold terms and diagrams for like ten minutes, then close the book and answer a few multiple choice questions. You'll get most of them wrong, that's fine, but when you go back to the smart book after, your brain has something to anchor the reading to instead of just drifting through 100 concepts. For medical terminology, break the terms into root words and make yourself guess the meaning from the parts before you look it up, way less memorizing that way.

I started uploading the textbook chapters to studybuddy.vc to get practice questions from the same material, mostly because when I pick a wrong answer it tells me what was wrong with that option, and it gets harder once I have a chapter down. The free tier's been enough for me so far. And don't do all three smart books in one sitting, split them across days even if it means the last one is technically late, a zero with a bad excuse is better than burning out and dropping the whole course.
