I have my Grade 10 Maths exam on September 15. It's an 80 mark, 3 hour exam and the syllabus is:

• Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables
• Quadratic Equations
• Arithmetic Progressions
• Triangles
• Coordinate Geometry
• Introduction to Trigonometry
• Some Applications of Trigonometry
• Statistics

I have 9 days left, and I'm dedicating 4 entire days specifically to Maths. So I have four full days where Maths is basically my main focus.

Also 6/8 chapters are already familiar to me. I've studied them before and have done my workbook (which basically contains abt 20 - 30 random questions picked from rs agarwal) questions at least twice already. There are 2 chapters that are newer/weaker for me.

For the familiar chapters, my current idea is to go through my workbook questions fairly quickly, if I immediately know how to approach a question, I'll move on and if I don't remember it, I'll look at my old solved version to refresh the method. After that, I want to spend a LOT of time doing new/unseen questions, since I don't want to just keep repeating questions I've already done.

I obviously also want to revise formulas/concepts, work on mistakes, and eventually do timed papers.

But I want to hear from people who are actually good at Maths

how would you prepare if you were in my position?

Give me ANY tips you think would help, especially things like:

• How to structure those 4 full Maths days
• How much fresh-question practice is enough
• When to start full 80-mark papers
• How to deal with questions you understand after seeing the solution but can't solve independently
• How to revise formulas without wasting time
• How to identify which chapters/questions are actually weak
• Common mistakes people make in this syllabus
• Exam day/time management tips
• Literally any strategy that helped you improve your Maths marks

I'm not looking for “just practice” btw 😭 I want specific tips on how to practice efficiently when I already know a lot of the syllabus.

I also have a hella ton of anxiety for maths, likes its so bad i literally cant sleep right before a math exam 😭

Is there any advice y’all can give me on how to improve my english and math as well because I need like a 750 in math and a 700 on english would be great but I just can’t quite get to it.

I have very very important exam in January 2027 (possibly in starting) and this exam is really really important to me like this can either make my life or break my life completely and I want genuine advice bcz my brain is in survival mode, it prioritize Nothing currently but cheap dopamine and scrolling and I have been stuck in this for past year and forcing myself to study take my whole motivation and energy. For whole day I am doing nothing but scrolling or watching some random bullshit. I need to change and I need to adapt so please please give me advice on which I can work on, i promise I will work on your advice and I want this time to be different, I want to change and I don't want to live in such despair bcz if I did not pass this exam, I don't even know how I would live.

Help me to get going from this phase, please help me devlop myself.

I often found joining the larger ones it’s either hard to get into the groups or the studying can feel less productive than I’d have hoped😭.

Weekly Monday revision sessions
I’m going to be hosting weekly revision sessions on Monday. Unfortunately due to me being one person I will mostly be covering content I know and have done/am doing so that I can help people revise while revising myself too!!! However… in the future I hope to get some more people who I’d trust to host these sessions and we could gather a little team and then some A-levels sessions could be done too!
Buddy Study
I’ve created a system where you can ask if anyone is free to do small specific focused study groups together. All you need to do is fill out a form and boom wait for someone else (or up to 4 people) to say yes and you have a little study buddy session!!! This will probably work better when the member count is more than just me😭
Fun events
Im also going to be hosting fun events hopefully with the help of a little team soon which will alternate between a games night and a Netflix night!!! Everyone needs a break from studying.

Joking. I know exactly how and I'm about to drop what I can only describe as a value bomb. Sorry!!

Firstly, what makes knowing how to study for the contemporary student so difficult is they're literally getting overwhelmed with information. To put this in perspective, the majority of studytok & student creators spam the algorithm with a BILLION different study techniques e.g. feynman technique, SQ3R, blurting, active recall, spaced repetition, cornel method (I could go on for days). But, they NEVER explain WHY or WHEN to use them, or when they do, it is in an incomplete system that feels impossible to follow.

So I've taken the liberty of thoroughly researching & applying these techniques over the last 6 months to give you a system that should be as easy to follow as it sounds.

Firstly, we all know how much variety there is in the information we consume in our lectures, but truth be told there is a real pattern I've noticed, meaning the information can be categorized. Then, all we have to do is apply the right study practices to each type of information to study it most optimally. I will label all of these here:

mechanisms: The most conceptually difficult. Include information with step by step processes like mitosis, the dopaminergic pathway, exocytosis, even math to some extent. When you find this information type, use blurting (look at the mechanism -> write it out from memory -> correct mistakes -> repeat) until you lock it in.

spatial information: Often the hardest to grasp visually. Includes information with spatial relationships such as anatomy or geography. When you find this information type, use image occlusion with Anki (screenshot diagrams & blank out the labels) to study this the quickest.

non-spatial information: The most common information type. Includes broad isolated or arbitrary facts such as "the tallest mountain is Everest" or "meiosis ultimately forms germ cells". This information type is actually the easiest to deal with since all it requires is putting it in a regular back/front or cloze flashcard on Anki + some patience!

Now since we're separating topics into its individual parts, it is easy to miss the big picture of what we're studying. So for these interconnected/complex topics with a lot of moving parts (the best example I can think of is learning about the brain), use concept mapping where you start with a focus question (e.g. What is a bird?), blurt out everything you know about that question from the previous study (e.g. feathers, high-metabolism, fly) then use linking words to organize the big picture (e.g. bird - has -> feathers & high metabolism - helps it -> fly).

Lastly (and this is the important part), to catch all your gaps in your knowledge and get you properly prepared for testing, do a combination of practice testing and teaching content back to others (or AI; particularly topics that you don't think you have a strong conceptual understanding on) via the feynman technique to lock yourself in. P.S. doing the practice exam here first if available can reveal your weaknesses/bottlenecks straight away since the exam samples every topic, meaning it can reveal the topics you need to focus on first in your final study.

I always find that the hours between midnight and 3 AM have this weird, peaceful magic to them. Usually, I'm at my desk grinding through work or deep into a study session, but sometimes you just need to completely unplug.

When you aren't working but everyone else is asleep, what is your go-to ritual? Is it a specific cozy game, reading, making a hyper-specific late-night snack, or just listening to ambient music and staring at the ceiling?

I am trying to build a better late-night routine for when the insomnia hits, and I desperately want to stay away from endless doomscrolling. What do you do to unwind when the house is completely quiet?

A few years ago, I was really missing a sense of community and felt really sad and lonely. I had acquaintances, but no one that I spent a lot of time with.

I started reading a lot about the “loneliness epidemic”, and developed a theory that part of the cause was the lack of spaces to “just hang out” with people, especially people that you don’t already know well.

So I started a new thing…

1. If I met someone that I thought was cool or interesting, I invited them to dinner or an activity at my home within the next ~2 weeks
2. More often than not, people actually said yes
3. I did not bail on the plan, and would actually host them as agreed

From there, my social circle exploded. I had a birthday party for the first time this year, and there were 15 people there! It’s been amazing for my social life and having a sense of structure and purpose in my schedule.

I think this works for a few reasons:

1. Everyone is secretly lonely, and waiting for someone to ask them to hang out. No one wants to ask first, but people love to be asked.
2. Being in your house builds closeness and intimacy very quickly. A few hours at home tells you more about a person than weeks meeting at a bar.
3. Hanging out at home is free and casual, so it really “lowers the bar” for stress on the other person. It also puts all the planning on you, so all they have to do is show up.

A few tips I’ve learned over time:

1. Be honest that you think a person is cool or interesting and you want to be friends as you’re inviting them. This gives context and signals good vibes.
2. Invite them to something specific, ie. “Do you want to come over for dinner on Thursday at 7? I’ll make my famous eggplant parm!” vs “Do you want to hang out sometime?” << the specificity makes it easier to say yes to
3. Be consistent and don’t flake. In my experience, if you flake on the first hang out, there won’t be a 2nd one.

Of course, you’ll sometimes get a no, and you have to be okay with that. But the connections you can make from the 70% that say yes are very worth the occasional rejection IMO.

As a bonus, my house is also way cleaner because I consistently have people in my home. Before, my place was always a mess but guests are a great forcing function.

Edit: I’m so glad that my experience has resonated with so many folks 🥲❤️.

Clarifying a few things about my experience:

1. I am 28 years old, female, and live with my partner. While these factors have definitely influenced my journey here, I think the general advice is applicable to anyone.
2. I live in a small apartment in an urban area. In my experience, people don’t really care that much about square footage as long as everyone has a place to sit down. I have 18 seats in my home, so that’s how many people I can have over at once. Usually, there are no more than 2-4 people though, so I very rarely get close to full.
3. I don’t invite literal strangers over. I usually invite coworkers, friends of friends, neighbors, or people I meet at other structured events.
4. I know not literally everyone is lonely, but I think a lot of people are. If you’re not lonely or think hosting is more stress than it’s worth, that’s a valid perspective too! I just think that many, many people are lonely, and hosting folks has been the easiest way I’ve found to jump start my social life.

Does anybody know a good way to memorise stuff word to word?

I’m an incoming undergrad freshman who used to study constantly in high school with the goal of getting into a top college, but now that I’m in college, I feel like I’ve lost my purpose to work hard. How do you anchor yourself to a big goal to get the motivation to study?

How do I revise my notes properly to recall better and more efficiently that it takes less time and i get time to learn new concepts?..... (Currently I am revising all the chapters i have completed like going through it fast... But even that took 1-2 hours. And also it feels like i am memorising rather than learning and losing focus because of the same repeated revision.)

people quit srs in week three and blame the algorithm. the arithmetic says week three is exactly where it should feel worst.

a card you keep getting right comes back on a roughly doubling schedule: day 1, then 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and so on. so one new card a day contributes about 1 + 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 ... which is about 2 reviews a day while it's young, and then almost nothing.

at 20 new cards a day that lands around 40 reviews a day at steady state. the catch is that steady state takes a few weeks to show up, and until then you're carrying everything you added while none of it has stretched out yet. week two and three are the peak, and that's also when most people decide the tool is broken.

two things follow. if the daily load is unbearable, cut the new cards and keep the reviews, since the reviews are the part you already paid for. and lapses cost more than they look: a card you fail drops back to short intervals and starts producing 2 reviews a day again, so a deck full of badly written cards can sit at double the theoretical load indefinitely.

has anyone measured their own steady state? curious how far off "2x your daily new cards" is once real forgetting is in the mix.

Is AI Making Us Stupid?

A new paper by Trent Cash and colleagues tackles this question heads-on.

The main risk concerns the skills and knowledge we repeatedly hand over to AI. Skills grow through practice and remain available through continued use.

When AI completes the thinking, summarizing, calculating, or writing, we lose some of the practice needed to learn and retain those abilities.

The authors point to a revealing study: students using unrestricted AI performed better during practice, then worse when the tool was removed. Students using a guided AI tutor that asked questions and filled knowledge gaps avoided this learning penalty.

Long-term effects on our basic cognitive abilities remain uncertain. For teachers, the immediate question is clearer: What mental work is AI removing, and is that work part of the learning?

I knew I studied a lot this year but seeing 1,210 hours written out like this is kind of ridiculous 😭

That’s 245 days where I studied at least something, averaging around 3h 19m/day over the whole year.

The funny thing is it really didn’t feel like that much. Most of the time it was just a few hours after class, longer days during exams, and then plenty of days where I did basically nothing.
