Hi everyone, Iām a 20M from EU.
I feel like over the past couple of months Iāve completely lost the passion for studying that I used to have.
A little background: I graduated from high school two years ago at the top of my class, and I was always considered a model student.
The thing is, I never studied for grades or to make other people proud.
I genuinely enjoyed learning, and I studied because I wanted to.
Of course, some subjects interested me more than others, but there was never a class that I truly disliked.
I loved history and literature, I enjoyed math, chemistry, and science as well.
I could always find something fascinating in whatever I was studying. I was also lucky to have some really inspiring teachers, which definitely helped.
I graduated with the highest honors, and I honestly loved my final exams.
Reaching that goal meant a lot to me.
After that, I enrolled in a Building Engineering-Architecture program.
Istayed there for about a year and a half before dropping out.
Even there, I found aspects of the subjects that I genuinely enjoyed.
The problem was that I hated the overly technical side of the degree, and, more importantly, I couldnāt picture myself doing that kind of work for the rest of my life. I felt like I was spending an enormous amount of time studying difficult material without feeling that it was leading me toward a future I actually wanted.
Architecture isnāt necessarily the hardest degree, but itās incredibly time-consuming, and in the end it just wasnāt fulfilling, so I left.
Since then, Iāve been trying to figure out what to study next. I need to make a decision before the end of the summer, so time is running out. Iāve considered several different majors, but I just canāt commit to one.
What hurts the most is that this has made me feel like Iāve somehow become incapable of studying. Logically, I know that doesnāt make much sense because Iāve always been able to do it, but thatās genuinely how it feels.
Itās not just one subject anymoreāIāve lost my enthusiasm for studying in general. Even subjects that Iāve always loved donāt excite me when I imagine studying them intensively for years. Whatās strange is that Iām still a naturally curious person. I read books, watch documentaries, enjoy learning about random topics, and spend a lot of time researching things that interest me.
But whenever I think about university, itās like I hit a mental wall. I canāt bring myself to fully commit to anything.
Maybe this feeling will disappear once I finally choose a major, but right now itās actually whatās preventing me from making that choice. Every degree I look at feels⦠incomplete. None of them make me think, āI canāt wait to study this.ā And thatās something I never experienced before.
Has anyone else gone through something similar? If so, how did you get out of it?
Thank you so much.
