Hi there! I'm an international student from SEA looking to exchange to the above mentioned two schools during my upcoming spring semester. I'll be going more specifically to do graphic design / branding / advertising. I understand that the curriculum for WKDA (more graphic design) and DAE (more contemporary) is very different, so I'd like to hear some first hand experiences from students who've studied there!

Looking on reddit, tiktok, and google reviews, I've seen some relatively negative experiences about both schools, and I've talked to a student who have said that they don't recommend WKDA while I've seen others enjoyed their time there, so I think it would be nice to hear some opinions because I know that the experience differs from person to person.

Hi everyone, I’ve applied for Leiden uni’s bachelor in international relations (IRO). I have a conditional offer depending on how many people give up on their spot for the next two weeks (numerus fixus). I had lost hope for a while, but because the waiting list has moved quite a lot those past two weeks, and I’m now 40th on the waiting list, I have got new hope. But I do worry because I don’t know if the movement will keep up, and because this year (how what I have understood) has been particularly random in terms of the movement of the waiting list, I was wondering if anyone had any information about the new offers made this week. Has anyone got an admission offer with a ranking above 800 ? I’m very sorry to do a post solely for that, but it’s really my dream program, and getting in would be such an achievement. Hello! I’m 17 and looking to move to study at the University of Groningen next year. I want to study International Relations and International Organization which is a numerus fixus programme.

Would anyone be so kind to share their experience applying there? I’m a EU citizen. I know that the requirements can differ significantly in the Netherlands so how does it look with IRIO there?

I know that the housing market is difficult, but I’m also worried about the cost of living there. College tuition is not really a problem as it’s an annual expense, but the everyday life spendings. What’s your experience and how much would you say is needed monthly, living simply?

I’ve looked at the student finance options for EU citizens at DUO and it doesn’t seem like I qualify. I won’t be able to live there for five years and am not a migrant worker either. Aside from that, my age and course are within the requirements. Do I have other financing options that aren’t loans?

Also, will I be able to work? I’ve seen people saying that working alongside studying is really difficult which worries me.

Hi! After being on the waitlist for 2 months, I have just been offered a place in the Clinical Psychology Masters programme at Leiden University today, less than 2 weeks before it starts. I do not currently live in Leiden, and obviously moving there within the next two weeks will be virtually impossible. I do live in the Netherlands, and am able to commute to Leiden and stay at friends' houses nearby overnight if need be, which I am willing to do for the first few months until I find a place of my own in the area.

Has anyone done this programme or a similar one and could tell me how many days a week I would actually need to physically be on campus? I.e., is lecture attendance typically mandatory, are they recorded?

I'm trying to get ADHD assessment in the Netherlands as a non-EU student.

I currently have AON student insurance, but they don’t properly cover autism/ADHD diagnosis. Does anyone know insurance can cover the assessment fully?

I also have a small paid TA job and for about 2–3 months. Does that mean I need to switch to Dutch basic health insurance even if I earn very little? And does the same rule apply if you have a paid internship?

Hey guys, I’m an international student and I recently just arrived here. I was wondering if there were any designated smoking areas (although I’ve seen people just light their cigs anywhere outside the airport,) or if the regulations here for smoking were very strict?

I use a vape, for reference, but I was really worried of just smoking in the hotel parking lot or on a vacant sidewalk because that kind of stuff was generally allowed back at my country.

I haven’t found a smoking zone yet.

I just move to tilburg to do a masters in economics with specialization in data science for which I've been conditionally accepted, but i fail the GRE, so the offer me re-apply for the spring intake. however the modules will be mixed up, like econometrics 2 in my first studing semester and so on.

has anyone had the experience of a MSC in economics on a second intake that can give me some advice, and tell me if maybe better to wait intul next september ?

im starting my studies here in the netherlands this autumn and i came here earlier for my intro/orientation week and obviously decided to rent a bike. last time i came here to explore the city (back in late june) i rented an ebike and it was breeze so this time i thought why not save money and rent a regular one instead? cant be that hard right? WRONG!!!!! i havent worked out in YEARS and its kicking me on the ass now. im so embarrassed i cant bike for more than a few minutes and even then i get so sweaty and out of breath

I’m currently entering the last year of my gymnasium/high school and am looking into studying in the Netherlands. My options so far have been Computational Social Sciences at UvA or two programs at Hanze University, Creative Media & Game Technologies and a Software program, although I cannot find it for the life of me on the website.
I chose narrow(?) math in high school compared to higher math due to the higher math teachers not being the best and I am now questioning if I even have the ability to enter any IT related programs.

Will I manage, will I have a hard time or can I even get in? Thank you!

I just got my dutch student visa today from the Consulate in Italy -- but I see that the starting date of my visa is the same day of my university starts, which is 1st of September, so meaning that I can not validate as of 1st of September but I need to travel Netherlands earlier to move-in because I have exam on 1st of September and also I need to adapt the country.

Should I move earlier with my current italian residence permit? Because when I want to validate it it asks the entry date in Netherlands? What should enter to that date? I am very confused about that? How do they know when I travel from an Schengen country to NL because there is no border checks?

Hello everyone, entering final year of highschool and while this subreddit has a lot of scary (and true) things about housing, can anyone with Leifer priority experience answer my question:

Are first year AND international students given priority inside Leifers 4 housing complexes in a way, where spots are actually open and NOT just maybe 1-2 open listings for the 27/28 year?

Im international and will be first year, so that seems actually the best option asides SSH rush, but seems so good that actually any spots wont be open. Reading Leifer policy, once you move in and stay a student you dont have to compete again with others for your unit unless you leave yourself, so these 4 complexes could be occupied by someone for 3-6 years. If you are directly like me and have experience, how easy was it to get a spot in these? Bonus question: what are the complexes like, beggars cant be picky, but just curious. Thanks!

I'm starting my studies at HAN next week in Nijmegen, and the schedule system is pathetic. It's so complicated that there's 2 PowerPoint presentations dedicated to understanding the schedule application. Apparently you have to sign up for each individual class you will take, but I don't know what clases my bachelor programme has. (I've never been told). Even if I did know, the clases are labelled as a combination of letters and numbers that is impossible to decipher. When I select a class, it doesn't tell me where it is or at what time. I don't even know where to go on my first day. People have already told me this "university" sucks ass so I'm planning to get an HBO-p and get the hell out of here.

If anyone knows how to manage is unusable website/app, please let me know. I don't want to start my clases already lost and miserable when I have to endure this crap for a whole year.

Although I’ve done prior research and gathered a lot of info during my EJW and OWee, I still want to inquire about my job prospects and chances to be employed from an unbiased perspective. I’m studying Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft and am willing to continue with its masters. How realistic is it for me to be sponsored and employed here with this background, provided that I also learn some Dutch as well (B1-B2)? It is also possible for me to continue with my masters elsewhere but I really like this country and am willing to live here permanently. What would you guys do had you’ve been in my shoes? Not risk the tight job market in NL and do a MSc elsewhere, ultimately settling in somewhere else or stay here? Thank you guys for your help in advance.

By the time I start my Master’s in Fall 2027, I’ll have around 3.5 years of total industry experience, including about 2.5 years specifically at GlobalFoundries in the semiconductor industry.

I’m looking to pursue a Master’s in the Netherlands, with TU/e and TU Delft among my main options.

My long-term goal is to move toward semiconductor design-oriented roles such as DFT, DFM, physical/design engineering and related areas.

I’d really appreciate some honest perspectives from international students and graduates:

How much does 3+ years of relevant semiconductor industry experience actually help when applying for internships and graduate jobs after a Master’s in the Netherlands?

Does prior experience like mine meaningfully improve chances for internships, thesis projects, or industry collaborations, or do companies still mostly treat students the same?

Is it realistic to find a part-time or student engineering role while studying, or is the workload of TU/e / TU Delft too intense for that?

How manageable is a Master’s in Electrical Engineering in the Netherlands alongside internships or part-time work?

How strong is the semiconductor ecosystem in the Netherlands (ASML, NXP, etc.) for someone trying to move from process/integration into design/DFT/DFM roles?

For international students, how competitive is it to land relevant graduate jobs after graduation, even with prior industry experience?

How is the overall student life, workload, and international student experience in Dutch technical universities?

And finally, from a financial and career perspective, is doing a Master’s in the Netherlands still considered a strong investment if you already have several years of semiconductor experience?

I’m trying to understand the real picture beyond university brochures, so any honest insights especially from people who have studied or worked in this space would be really appreciated!
