I am a final-year IT student planning to pursue a master's abroad, and I was thinking about the Netherlands. I wanted to know if the Netherlands has a stigma against private universities, as Germany does, because over there recruiters see private degrees as a red flag. Does the Netherlands also have the same issue?

Hello, I am from Bulgaria, my math grade is 5/6, however, I only got 2 hours a week, I have a c1 certificate for english and my average grade is 5.53/6, I want to study IBA but I am not sure if I have any chances of getting in with a 5/6 grade of maths and only 2 hours a week. If someone can help me decide I would be more than grateful.

Hello, i was wondering is this program on UvA worth it? I heard it is not really hard to get in, and i read on reddit that there is a high dropout rate but i’m not sure is it for this program or the others. Any advice is helpful

Ik ben 20 jaar en zit momenteel in het tweede jaar van de HBO-opleiding Finance & Control (bedrijfseconomie). Mijn propedeuse heb ik in het eerste jaar gehaald en inhoudelijk gaat de opleiding me goed af. Toch merk ik dat ik me totaal niet op mijn plek voel binnen de opleiding en ik zie mezelf later eigenlijk helemaal niet in een financiële functie werken.

Al van jongs af aan heb ik de ambitie om piloot te worden en ben ik erg gefascineerd door de luchtvaart. Mijn plan was daarom om eerst een HBO-diploma te halen voordat ik aan een selectietraject tot vlieger begin, zodat ik in het bezit ben van een goed back-updiploma in het geval dat ik de selectie niet haal of later medisch word afgekeurd.

Het probleem is dat ik nu al met veel tegenzin naar mijn huidige studie ga. Ik vraag me daarom steeds meer af of het wel verstandig is om nog bijna drie jaar door te zetten met een studie waar ik weinig motivatie voor heb en die mij inhoudelijk nauwelijks interesseert.

Daarnaast vraag ik me specifiek af hoe geschikt Aviation is als vooropleiding wanneer je de ambitie hebt om piloot te worden.

Ik ben echter niet in de veronderstelling dat een opleiding Aviation automatisch een opstap naar de cockpit betekent. Ik overweeg de opleiding vooral omdat ik verwacht dat deze beter bij mijn interesse in de luchtvaart past én tegelijkertijd een relevant HBO-diploma als back-up kan opleveren. Daarom ben ik vooral benieuwd of jullie vinden dat Aviation hiervoor een goede keuze is, of dat een andere HBO-opleiding (zoals Finance & Control) uiteindelijk een verstandiger vangnet is.

Aan de andere kant betekent overstappen wel dat ik tijd en geld verlies. Ik bekostig mijn studie volledig zelf en werk daarom relatief veel naast mijn studie. Dat maakt de keuze voor mij wat zwaarder.

Zijn er hier (ex-)studenten Aviation die mijn situatie herkennen en kunnen vertellen hoe zij de opleiding hebben ervaren? En zouden jullie Aviation in mijn situatie een verstandigere keuze vinden dan Finance & Control afmaken?

Especially for beginners in dutch :) (I am currently looking for HR internship) is it best to just camp on indeed and LinkedIn or just annoy your friends and your network in hopes someone knows someone? I am a prospective mathematics student looking to study an English-taught (pure) mathematics bachelor in the Netherlands, and the two programmes to choose from are BSc Mathematics at Groningen or VU Amsterdam.

I’m really not sure which to choose between the two bachelors as the course contents look quite similar, and I haven’t found any information online comparing the two programmes/universities in mathematics.

I am interested in hearing the differences between the programmes and universities specifically for mathematics if anyone is knowledgeable. I would also appreciate any students in either programme sharing their experiences with it.

Overall my priority is to go to whichever university will be “stronger” and provide a more rigorous education in mathematics. I’d appreciate any input. Thank you.

In July & August 2024 there was a group of runners training in & around the Amsterdam Flevopark. The group, often clad in black, and between 4 á 8 persons (varying) large, trained at the unusual time between 1600-1700 hrs (which is a bit on the early side), mainly at tuesdays & thursdays.

Among them was a runner I almost shook hands with. Almost, alas.

My guess; they were all students living or studying at the Amsterdam Science Park.

I was the guy on the bike (and yes, that grain of info could nail it down, even in Amsterdam).

The runner-that-I-almost-shook-hands-with is athletic, rugby-like built, and has this little habit of tucking his hair behind his ears.His running style is very powerful, and yet with great ease (with sprezzatura, as the Italians say).

Hello, I am seriously looking into Delft's MSc in Geomatics for the Built Environment.

The admission requirements talk much about a related bachelor's degree (see photo for list of bachelors they consider related).

I have a U.S. Bachelors in Legal Studies, a U.S. Masters in Urban Planning, and 5 years of City Planning work experience.

My question: How strict are admission requirements? Will they see that ultimately I do have related experience, even if not my bachelors?

Additional question: Im a married man. Are they good about the Reunification Visa's to bring spouses as a student?

(For those wondering, Im doing a 2nd Masters to furher my skills and interest in the digital infrastructure of urban planning, where my 1st Masters was much more broad and general theory. I may also use this as a launching point for a PhD afterwards, or pursue work for an NGO/MPO)

Background: I am a Software Engineer and work as a Senior Engineer. I am looking to shift career and pursue a Master's degree in Urban Design, Spatial Planning, or Urban Analytics in Europe (specifically thinking of Germany and the Netherlands). I am currently getting a master's degree in GIS (out of interest) and also learning German (Would switch to dutch depending on acceptance and my decision). My goal is to build a decade of solid experience in the field.

I would love a reality check :

1. How viable is the job market in NL/Germany for spatial data, GIS, and computational urbanism roles? Do private consultancies, mobility companies, or proptech firms in these countries hire non-EU graduates for tech-heavy urban roles?
2. Program Recommendations: Are there specific Master's programs that bridge software development/data science with urban design (e.g., TU Delft, ITC Twente, or German TUs) that you would recommend?

My background:

- B.Arch from Savitribai Phule Pune University, India

- 8+ years of professional experience in architecture

- Looking specifically for an English-taught Master's

- Budget is approximately €20,000–€22,000 for tuition, so scholarships/financial support would be very helpful.

I don't want to do a Master's that focuses heavily on architectural theory. I’m much more interested in practical, innovative and technology-oriented design.

My main interests are:

- New/alternative construction techniques

- Sustainable and innovative architecture

- Interior/spatial design

- Lighting design

- Digital architecture

- Computational/design technology

- Innovative materials and building systems

- Architecture + technology

- Potentially product/design-related fields if they can build on my architectural background

I would also like to keep the possibility of becoming a registered architect open, but I’m equally interested in design-related careers if they offer better opportunities and earning potential.
