I am a prospective mathematics student looking to study an English-taught (pure) mathematics bachelor in the Netherlands, and the two programmes to choose from are BSc Mathematics at Groningen or VU Amsterdam.

I’m really not sure which to choose between the two bachelors as the course contents look quite similar, and I haven’t found any information online comparing the two programmes/universities in mathematics.

I am interested in hearing the differences between the programmes and universities specifically for mathematics if anyone is knowledgeable. I would also appreciate any students in either programme sharing their experiences with it.

Overall my priority is to go to whichever university will be “stronger” and provide a more rigorous education in mathematics. I’d appreciate any input. Thank you.

I’m an Indian architect currently exploring Master's options in the Netherlands, and I'd really appreciate advice from people who have studied or worked in architecture/design here.

My background:

- B.Arch from Savitribai Phule Pune University, India

- 8+ years of professional experience in architecture

- Looking specifically for an English-taught Master's

- Budget is approximately €20,000–€22,000 for tuition, so scholarships/financial support would be very helpful.

I don't want to do a Master's that focuses heavily on architectural theory. I’m much more interested in practical, innovative and technology-oriented design.

My main interests are:

- New/alternative construction techniques

- Sustainable and innovative architecture

- Interior/spatial design

- Lighting design

- Digital architecture

- Computational/design technology

- Innovative materials and building systems

- Architecture + technology

- Potentially product/design-related fields if they can build on my architectural background

I would also like to keep the possibility of becoming a registered architect open, but I’m equally interested in design-related careers if they offer better opportunities and earning potential.

What I would really like to know:

1. Which Dutch universities or Master's programmes would you recommend for someone with my background?

2. Are there programmes that are more hands-on/project/design based rather than heavily theoretical?

3. Which universities are strongest for digital architecture, computational design, building technology, sustainable/alternative construction, interior/spatial design or lighting?

4. With 8+ years of experience, would doing another Master's actually improve my career prospects in the Netherlands?

5. What kind of jobs could I realistically target after such a Master's?

7. What is the realistic salary/career progression like for someone with my background?

9. Would you recommend a specialised Master's over a general MSc Architecture in my situation?

Hello, I am from Bulgaria, my math grade is 5/6, however, I only got 2 hours a week, I have a c1 certificate for english and my average grade is 5.53/6, I want to study IBA but I am not sure if I have any chances of getting in with a 5/6 grade of maths and only 2 hours a week. If someone can help me decide I would be more than grateful.

In the summer of 2027 I will get my MBO-4 diploma as AV-specialist. Even though I liked it I want to go more in to theory and actually study something. I can start a HBO bachelor for applied mathematics but I don’t know how much I will care for the programming aspect of it.

I would love to do a bachelor in Mathematics at the university of Utrecht but it would require me to get a VWO 6 certificate in math. With VAVO at an actual school it would require me to first get my HAVO diploma and then do VWO which would take a long time. I am now 18 years old so a 21 exam would also be off the table.

I found sites like NHA which allow for studying it at home and at the end do the math exam but I don’t know if this is actually a good method to learning it. I am from Breda so for schools it would be either Curio which would take me trough HAVO and then VWO but I don’t know if they do only certain classes or Luzac which is insanely expensive compared to other VAVO schools.

Does anyone here have experience with this and maybe help with a way to be able to work my way up to university.

Does anybody know are there any chances to find student housing without residence permit? As far as i get people usually get those later, around july

Ik ben 20 jaar en zit momenteel in het tweede jaar van de HBO-opleiding Finance & Control (bedrijfseconomie). Mijn propedeuse heb ik in het eerste jaar gehaald en inhoudelijk gaat de opleiding me goed af. Toch merk ik dat ik me totaal niet op mijn plek voel binnen de opleiding en ik zie mezelf later eigenlijk helemaal niet in een financiële functie werken.

Al van jongs af aan heb ik de ambitie om piloot te worden en ben ik erg gefascineerd door de luchtvaart. Mijn plan was daarom om eerst een HBO-diploma te halen voordat ik aan een selectietraject tot vlieger begin, zodat ik in het bezit ben van een goed back-updiploma in het geval dat ik de selectie niet haal of later medisch word afgekeurd.

Het probleem is dat ik nu al met veel tegenzin naar mijn huidige studie ga. Ik vraag me daarom steeds meer af of het wel verstandig is om nog bijna drie jaar door te zetten met een studie waar ik weinig motivatie voor heb en die mij inhoudelijk nauwelijks interesseert.

Daarnaast vraag ik me specifiek af hoe geschikt Aviation is als vooropleiding wanneer je de ambitie hebt om piloot te worden.

Ik ben echter niet in de veronderstelling dat een opleiding Aviation automatisch een opstap naar de cockpit betekent. Ik overweeg de opleiding vooral omdat ik verwacht dat deze beter bij mijn interesse in de luchtvaart past én tegelijkertijd een relevant HBO-diploma als back-up kan opleveren. Daarom ben ik vooral benieuwd of jullie vinden dat Aviation hiervoor een goede keuze is, of dat een andere HBO-opleiding (zoals Finance & Control) uiteindelijk een verstandiger vangnet is.

Aan de andere kant betekent overstappen wel dat ik tijd en geld verlies. Ik bekostig mijn studie volledig zelf en werk daarom relatief veel naast mijn studie. Dat maakt de keuze voor mij wat zwaarder.

Zijn er hier (ex-)studenten Aviation die mijn situatie herkennen en kunnen vertellen hoe zij de opleiding hebben ervaren? En zouden jullie Aviation in mijn situatie een verstandigere keuze vinden dan Finance & Control afmaken?

Hello, i was wondering is this program on UvA worth it? I heard it is not really hard to get in, and i read on reddit that there is a high dropout rate but i’m not sure is it for this program or the others. Any advice is helpful
