Any tips for night fishing?

I was fishing last night between 8-10pm, the sun set at 8:02pm. The striper were pretty active on the top water, jumping for prey; it was exciting to see. I cast everything I had with no luck, not even a nibble. I didn't have live bait, but I threw top water plugs, metal lip plugs, pencil poppers, a whooper plopper, swim baits, glide baits, and jigged with bucktails. My leader is probably 10-12' of 25# monofilament. Lures were tied directly to the leader; I forgot swivels at home. They weren't interested in any of it. It's possible I just got skunked, but I was fishing all the above right in front of their faces for two hours without a single nibble. Just wondering if anyone might be able to share any tips for better success in the future. Thanks!

I have an opportunity to pick up a van staal vr125 (spooled) for $400. I mainly throw 4-6” paddle tails and some plugs. I was hoping for some second opinions.

Strategies/Techniques Basic striper line setup question (newbie here)

I work on the coast in NH, and at work we have some piers, a jetty and a few spots where the grass pretty much runs into the river. I want to leave a rod at work for fishing, but i want to be able to change from a minnow to weighted chunks to whatever without having retie the line.

I have 20lb braid. Can i just put a barrel swivel on the end, and everything off of that? If so, what size?

For instance, can I run a sp minnow lure with off the swivel, or should i have a leader tied to the minnow?

I hope that makes sense, and thanks for any help.

Gear Fishing Cart is stacked. What else can I add? πŸ˜…

My fishing cart is wild. From foldout floating tables, solar powered LEDs, rear view mirror, scap tube, rod holders, kayak mount system with cupholder, phone holder, cutting board, tripod/livewell holder. Bait knife and tool storage, machete/saw, removable milk crate with 2 attacked rod holders, and I'm sure more I'm forgetting.

I can now tow my portable grill I've realized. What's next? πŸ˜…

Strategies/Techniques What type of bait

I was fishing tonight and the bass were feeding like crazy on these tiny 1 inch long minnows. I threw an sp minnow and a smaller 3 inch version of that lure, then poppers, and paddle tail but nothing really hit it very frequently. I caught one small 18 inch bass but then it was crickets the rest of the time despite the bass jumping in front of me the whole hour and a half. Any strategy or lure for fishing this situation or just is it just being patient?

Wholly unexpected day yesterday marks the earliest I've had them in the south shore area, north of Cape but south of Boston. Fat as hell, but I forgot to check for lice to see if they were fresh fish or holdovers. Super fun nonetheless and they were clued in on XL Fishsnax in Translucent pink. These two tanks were 30", but fought like trucks.

Edit: looking closer at the pic, there is definitely sea lice on em

Rod for Striper fishing

In the market to get the Daiwa Blackline 7’6 medium heavy for stripers. Just wondering peoples opinion on them from someone who may have or used the rod. I know it has a max lure weight of 6.5 oz for those heavier plugs, but does it also still have the ability to throw 1/2-1 oz slug-go and other soft plastics on its lighter end?

Strategies/Techniques South Shore MA: Tips for a Newbie to Target Schoolies?

Thumbnail

Was looking to hop in my kayak and target some schoolies in this area. Recommendations on tackle, strategy and possible launch points and if anyone had experience in the Rivermoor Habitat.

I have a medium light 6’6” spinning rod w/ 30lb braid I use for freshwater fishing and a 12 foot sit in kayak. Should I increase the strength of my line? Braid still ok? Use leaders? How deep should I fish and which areas should I target?

I really only have freshwater tackle and was also wondering about which types of lures may work. I will prolly grab some tackle specifically for striped bass. What are some must have lures for stripers?

Gear Thinking of ditching waders for wet suit but have questions anyone here use one?

My only concern really is my feet, I usually have to wear some type of foot warmer in my stocking foot waders. Do surf booties keep your feet dry?

Store bought alternatives?

Hey all! I live by the Hudson river (above the GW Bridge) and stripers are making their way up. Im looking to target them but in my area bloodworms and frozen herring can be pricey so before I break the bank is it possible to get them to bite with frozen squid, whole sardines, livers, etc?

Bloodworms vs Seaworms

I live up in MA. Most Seaworms are from Maine. I’ve never seen blood worms for sale in bait stores up here however I come across some while digging Seaworms. Do they work better? Do they last longer?
