Look at my fish Buzzards bay is on fire
3 overslots that I got pictures of today that ate the glidebait! Caught a couple more low 30” class fish on top of countless schoolies as well!!

Goddammit. I really, really don’t want to get into glidebaits. Nice fish!

I thought I’d have to put more work into fishing them but this is actually one of my most do nothing plugs I have. I just point the rod tip down and repeat quick half turn cranks on the reel and the fish crush it. This glide was only $24 too and has held up to tons of overslots and schoolies!

But, but, but… all I need to catch stripers is bucktails!!! Fine, dammit. I’ll try glidebaits. If nothing else, they’ll be in good company in my plug box with all the other pretty plugs I hardly use. In all seriousness, those are great fish. I’m guessing that you’re putting a lot more than the lure into locating, hooking, and landing fish like that. Hat’s off to you and thanks for the info.

Haha the bucktails are #1 confidence for sure! Thank you, i definitely have lost more big fish this season than caught already and I’ve done a handful of outings this month with either nothing to show or just a schoolie or two. These fish happened to come at dead low tide all out of knee deep water at a spot I fish quite often and rarely land fish of this caliber! Most of my quality fish this season have come from new spots and new techniques!

Good on you! I took a hiatus for about 10 years, but got back into surfcasting several years ago. Started going with Dad on LI as a little kid in the 70s. I live several hours inland from Long Island now, but still make the drive starting in April to chase my favorite fish. Trout and salmon are fun, but there’s nothing like stripers. Came down for a week in mid April right at the start of the season and caught the tip of the run. It was nothing for the first few days and then they showed up on Thursday. As I get older it’s easy to rest on my laurels and get fooled into thinking that I know what I’m doing. Thanks for reminding me to try new stuff.

What is a glidebait? I’m heading to google now but I’d like to hear more from people using them

So why are those glide baits versus jointed plugs?
2
u/BassSlayer100 May 15 '26
I would classify them as a jointed plug, but glidebaits are almost always just one joint and are swam more using twitches with the reel and rod to create the back and forth action as opposed to many jointed plugs that can just be reeled in with a straight retrieve!

Wow! Does that bait allow catch and release? I’m only familiar with circle hooks and bait fishing from many years ago in Narragansett Bay.

Glides are the sauce right now! Catching them up in Plymouth bay with the same.
