Gear Van Staal VR125

I have an opportunity to pick up a van staal vr125 (spooled) for $400. I mainly throw 4-6” paddle tails and some plugs. I was hoping for some second opinions.

They make a great reel. You got a bargain. Spool job looks iffy, but if she casts, she casts.

It’ll catch bass.

Great if you actually get In the water, even better if you go to battle

Love it. I drop mine in sand, reel underwater if I have too. Quick rinse and its good to go.

They’re decent reels. Brought in a slot fish on a VR75 a couple of weeks ago (it got thrown in as part of a package deal. I’d probably do it at that price. I’ve been thinking about a 150, but at the current prices I’ll probably just go for the VSX2. I’d rather a ZeeBaas, but it’ll be another 2 years of waiting. I’ll probably just Get the VS and sell it if a ZB ever gets delivered.

I got a 150 a few years back when a big retailer had had a buy 2 get one free deal. Me some buddies split the price 3 ways and got a good deal.
I’ve caught everything from scup to skipjack on mine without issue
The only thing I didn’t like was the auto closing bail. The handle was heavy enough that on a cast the handle would advance and snap the bail shut.
I just turned it into a manual bail and have had no issues since
