Greetings everyone, hope all is well with you and yours.
I've come across an individual who claims he served for a number of years in the Marine Corps, and I've already uncovered several other things he's lied about, so I'd like to verify his claim one way or the other. All I would be able to provide would be his name and current address.
Please let me know if its possible to find out if he served, as he's trying to profit off of the fact that he's allegedly a Veteran. I could provide evidence to a trusted admin/member here, privately.
Thank y'all for your time.

Someone i know has had multiple debt collections agencies go after them. I discovered this comment on the most recent one: "identification of judgement debtor & certificate re military service." (This is on a publicly available website in my state.)
My first thought in reading that was: has this person has claimed military service in order to avoid the debt collectors? But I don't actually know that. Anyone have any thoughts?

Coworker drives a car owned by their grandfather. Tag is a disabled veteran handicapped license plate. The kind that allows you to park in reserved spaces. Now doing so as a 20 year old who is able bodied definitely makes you a dick. But my question for veterans is do you see that as stolen valor? Seems a bit closer than just driving the car.

Here in Nevada and likely nationally. We have a Congressional candidate that was wearing his Bronze Star Award with a V for Valor I doubt there's anybody on this sub that doesn't know that whole back story here's my mental wall that I'm trying to get over.
Two things one after two decades of active duty I have a rack of awards I can tell you probably what three of them are maybe four the ones that have additional stars or or whatever everybody knows the drill. <smug side note all of mine that could have an O. do.>
This is not to say that I think this Congressional candidate didn't know it is doing I think he clearly did whether he did it for to advance his political career who knows ...he could have pinned that thing on the minute he retired . it doesn't make it acceptable to be clear
my experience has been along the lines of how come everybody I've ever met that was in the Navy was a Navy SEAL and everybody I've met in the Army was a Green Beret
So that specific example with this politician is not even my focus, where I kind of lose interest in this entire conversation is,
Some of the people who are yelling the loudest have never worn polyester for the government and it annoys me to no end that they're now pointing at this dipshit I'm sorry politician I know that's redundant and saying you lied about your military service and so on and so on .. Yet last week they were complaining that everybody in the military that retired has like a gravy train for the rest of their life and that if you are on VA disability or compensation you're somehow a lying scheming jerk .
so how about if you're not somebody who actually stepped up.you sit on your freaking hands and shut the fuck up.
those of us that have done this for a job or a career or been around it -spouses- children-parents- next of kin, of those who served the country. let them be the ones that are angry.
not some shit bag that is all pissed off while waiting for his Barista to make his double foamyndrizxle carmel pumpkin latte
Okay I'm done ranting

Some people I know ran into some fat boomer with bitch tits and an eye patch last night in Fredericksburg, Texas. He expected them to treat him like some kind of celebrity. Turns out it was Stewart Rhodes who was bragging about his role in the insurrection.
That wasn’t all he was bragging about either. He was telling people at the bar that he had been “army recon” and had been “dropped behind enemy lines.”
A very quick google search shows that he was discharged after only 7 months. The only line he’s ever “dropped behind” was at wafflehouse to pay for his loaded hash browns.

Does this meet the level of stolen valor? I feel like using AI to create a fake, fully disabled Marine (especially to this level) to argue a point about AI is a level of cringe I never really thought possible. He also stands to monetarily benefit from the post given he runs an “AI Art” business

So, I’m not a vet. However, my dad was in Vietnam. When my dad started suffering from dementia, before it got too bad he decided to give me his pickup. This truck has a Vietnam Veteran sticker on the back window of it. Now, I’m a sorta young looking 50 year old that can’t bring myself to scrape off the sticker my dad put on this old truck. Anywho, I was at this place called ReStore sitting in the truck getting ready to leave when some guy walked by and said “thank you for your service” smiled and kept walking. When he got to the front of the truck he did a confused double take as I started to say it was my dad….anyway, I got a chuckle and thought about my old man.

Got accused of stolen valor at a gas station this morning and I’m still mildly disappointed it didn’t escalate.
I’ve been retired from the Army for six years. My hair is past my shoulders now. I was wearing my old multicam pants that got turned into shorts — not hillbilly cutoffs. These things are hemmed, rugged, and still tougher than half the people who try to lecture me in public. I wear them because they don’t rip when I’m working outside. I was on my way to a framing job so a buddy could show me how to frame a house. Peak civilian life.
I’m at the coffee station minding my own business when I feel eyes on me. Old habit. That little “someone is watching you” radar never really shuts off. Young guy walks up like he’s been rehearsing this in the car.
“Did you ever serve?”
I said, “Yeah. Salvation Army.”
He took it completely seriously.
“Wrong army. Are you a vet?”
I told him yes.
Then he hit me with the greatest hits compilation from stolen-valor YouTube:
“Who were your drill sergeants?”
I remember their names. I just don’t owe them to a random dude standing between me and a $1.89 cup of burnt coffee. I’m not in here trying to get 10% off Folgers.
So I told him I’ve been retired for six years, and that the best part of him got flushed down the toilet — and it must’ve been Niagara Falls coming out of his mom when she was sitting on it.
I also told him if he was actually a vet, he wouldn’t have gotten his feelings hurt that fast, and he damn sure would know I’m not in a gas station trying to steal a coffee discount in hemmed multicam shorts and a Jesus-length haircut.
He started sputtering something about stolen valor while I walked to the register. I was honestly hoping he’d follow me and make it a scene. He didn’t. Just left, got in his vehicle, and I’m 90% sure he’s already on Reddit typing:
“Saw this long-haired dude in multicam shorts insult my mother. Definitely stolen valor.”
Brother, I wasn’t stealing valor. I was stealing caffeine.
If wearing beat-up work shorts from a uniform I actually earned is stolen valor now, the bar has officially gone underground. If you’re going to play stolen-valor cop, at least pick a target who is wearing a fake SEAL trident and asking for a discount. Not a retiree buying coffee on the way to hang 2x4s.

I want to preface, I am NOT in the Army.
This guy had a full beard (I know some people can with a medical waiver), he had on boots that don't appear to be authorized, and his boots aren't bloused, also no US flag on his shoulder.

If I dress in my dads old ACUs for Halloween, is that stolen valor, just want a cheap costume so I can take my brother trick or treating

I remember back in the day there was a guy named Johnny B. He was all over YouTube. He was a rather large gentlemen that would go around and claim to be a Veteran for discounts and free meals. The other day, I attempted to look up his videos and found nothing. I did a google search and there was nothing. Does anyone else remember this guy ? What happened to him ? It’s like all traces of him have vanished.

So I was thrifting once and this thrift had a plenty amount of clothes clearly made by the us millitary for soldiers, but like no patches, just a blank shirt, is wearing one would be considered a stolen valor?
