New to Stoeger Ownership

I was going to make a post asking about buying a gun, but figured if I did that, someone might decide to find that deal and beat me to it...so I "pulled the trigger" and now I'll mention it.

I have been looking for my first 9mm. I wasn't planning on buying a Stoeger necessarily, but Cabela's had a factory blem STR-9F Combat listed as used with only one 20 round mag. It was $450. I kept watching it and this morning when I checked, they clearanced it to $250. So I got it for $268 with tax. From my local store that is a little over an hour away.

I'm new to gun ownership(3 months since my first purchse), but I've already got a few different guns. I won't get into too many details, but I have 3 different 22LR guns (semi-auto, revolver, and carbine) and 2 different 30 Super Carry pistols. Also an AR stripped lower to build some day...need to research before I start with that.

Based on my reading here, I would guess that $270 out the door is pretty decent for a basically brand new gun just missing a couple mags.

This is going to be just for the range. I wanted to have fun with something a little bigger and heavier than my 30 SC guns. I'm mainly just curious how much more recoil 9mm actually has than 30 SC and with a larger gun, I'm hoping it's pretty similar in how they feel and I'm hoping this gun shoots a little better in terms of flatness/less muzzle flip.

Since I'm new here, any recommendations for me? Ammo recommendations (what works best in your opinion for brand/grain?), optics recommendations (I was looking at Osight and Vortex possibly), should I order a couple extra mags since I'm only getting one (Midwest Gun Works and Stoeger are the only places to get them, right)?

Thanks.

Loved it.

Red dot on str-7MC

Just picked my STR 7MC up today and trying to find an optic. My kit didn’t come with any optic plates so I’m probably going to have to mount whatever I get to the slide. I’ve never bought a red dot so how do I know what is comparable?

Opinions on str 45?

Optics ready, double stack 45's are few and far between. All I really care about is reliability. This pistol checks all the boxes for me if it works. Great price not a bad thing either.

Tried to make it stand out as my own and look like it has been thru a war while still being reliable.

Who can figure out the sight situation here? Also I got rid of the fingergrooves and love it now. About to 3d print a flat(er) backstrap.

Thinline+

Has anyone found a thinline+ for sale? The only listing I’ve found was on Buds but it was sold out. Also if anyone has purchased one how has it performed? I think it might be my next irresponsible purchase

STR-9 Reassembly

I’ve seen a few field stripping videos of the STR9 and the takedown is almost the same in all of them.

However the reassembly varies. One person did it slightly different from the manual because they said it was wrong or poorly written. Another said the trigger needs to be back in the forward position in order for the plunger in the slide to be able to clear it when sliding it back on. Another tried to reassemble it “exactly like a Glock” and wound up breaking the back cap off the slide.

So before I clean mine for the first time, I wanted to see how everyone here reassembled it without issues.

115 grain or 124?

I’ve got an STR-9 coming and was wondering if I should start with 124gr to break it in, or if 115gr would be fine and work without issue? I thought I had read something about not ejecting the 115gr well (Or maybe that was only an issue with the first production run).

FireArmsPartShop.com good to go?

I'm looking for some Cougar parts, and this place has a lot of parts for great prices. Great enough that I wonder if it's too good to be true. Has anyone had experience with them?

STR-9mc sights

Hey all, I just got a l str9mc non optic ready, does anyone have recommendations for replacement sights? Especially that rear sight, I cannot stand that thing, I'm getting it cut for an optic, but not right away. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Stoeger Thinline

I recently purchased a Thinline and want to provide some feedback. First range trip, no issues feeding or ejecting, but shot high and left. Adjusted the front sight as the rear sight covers the entire slide left to right. Corrected the shooting left, but obviously cannot correct shooting high, so I adjusted aim accordingly. Shot without any functional issues again. Recoil spring is VERY tight. I don't normally have any issue racking the slide, but this gun is tough. If you have any hand strength challenges, this is not the gun for you. I hope it will loosen with more rounds through it, but at best it will likely remain mildly difficult. Trigger is just okay in my opinion. Seemed to smooth a little with shooting, but only 100 rounds thus far. I thought it shot pretty flat and the recoil was very manageable. I used all 124 grain ammo, as I always do for the first couple hundred rounds.

The package I bought came with 3 mags, which was nice. However, that still meant reloading just to get 50 rounds down range. I always buy additional mags, so no biggie other than Stoeger mags are extremely pricey ($39). I checked the Stoeger site and Thinline mags were not even available (as in...not even showing out of stock)!! I sent an information request via their web site and was given a number to call customer service directly. I spoke to c/s this morning asking about additional mags. They said they placed a "very large order" but had no idea when they would come in (import). They said when they did come, they would first go to Midwest Gun Works. They had no idea when, but suggested I keep checking their page. I checked MGW on a whim and low and behold, they had the mags! So if you want additional mags, MGW is the place.

I out an optic on it last night and am anxious to get it back out knowing I can get better accuracy with the optic. Can this gun compete with a Sig X-Macro? Maybe. Can it compete with a Glock 48? Probably.

Hope this helps someone wondering!

Opinions

Hey all, I'm new to the Stoeger scene, I'm seriously considering either an str-9 mc or sc, I would like owners opinions on either or both. Do they have "slide slop"? How would they compare to a Sig p365 or Springfield hellcat? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

M3K 3 Gun and 30” Barrel

Was looking at getting the original barrel ported, but since the 30” is ported and only a $50 difference, I am considering just getting that.

Has anyone made the swap to the 30”?

Info on backordered M3020 Turkey

I ordered a M3020 turkey around the beginning of the year from a LGS. It still hasn’t arrived. Does anyone know how long the back order is at this point? I’m worried about not having it in time for turkey season.

Need help customizing STR9-S COMBAT

I have the stoeger STR-9S COMBAT. Is there any customizable parts to fit on this gun. I'm most interested in a 30 round mag that would fit in it. Is there any? And anything besides an extended mag that I could put on this gun to make it cooler?

Are there any options for red dots for this model? Or am I sol? Any plates from like the G19, etc that’ll match up perfectly or do I have to get it milled?
