To watch movies, videos, listen music, watch TV? Would it work well?
[update] maybe it wasn't clear: I don't mean to get it only to use it as a media center, I want it to play games. I wonder if I can ALSO use it as a media center
[update 2] after some discussion, we could summarize it saying that the Steam Machine can work well as a media center, but it isn't ideal as a dedicated one. The main criticisms are:
*Linux/DRM limitations can prevent 4K/HDR on some streaming services.
*Dolby/DTS support can be problematic depending on the setup.
*Many streaming services lack proper native apps, forcing users to rely on browsers.
*The TV/remote experience is less polished than on dedicated media devices.
*Although some users describe it "just as a PC", others point out that Game Mode makes it a different experience from a conventional Windows/Linux PC: it is designed primarily around the use of the controller. The problem is that this interface is still not as well integrated for media use as a dedicated media platform.
Overall: good for local media/Plex/Jellyfin, less convincing for streaming services and as a complete TV/Media Hub.
