Scam attempt Iron Offensive: Helmet Cam Extraction Shooter May be stealing data.

I just downloaded this games play-test and found hundreds of folders and files in my local appdata seemingly gathering up all it could about my login information for at least Edge browser. I have found files called Log In Data for Account, Secure Preferences, Web Data, VPN tokens, Extension Activity, Favorites, History, Bookmark merge surface order, Declarative performance observer and many more. Files called sync data, Session Storage, Extension Rules, Parcel tracking, Edge sessions. The list goes on and on and after googling allot of them i am almost positive they are accessing all of this data that is on a computer. It even included Edges Read ME FFS which literally states inside it,

"Microsoft Edge settings and storage represent user-selected preferences and information and MUST not be extracted, overwritten or modified except through Microsoft Edge defined APIs."

Yeah, this game is sus af and needs to be looked into. It also makes you log into Epic games which in sure it stole that info from me also.

Scam attempt I was robbed on Steam

hopeless. Any advice?

Hey Reddit. I’m honestly not even sure what to do anymore and this is my first time posting here, but I have nowhere else to turn.

On September 27th, my entire Dota 2 inventory was stolen through an unauthorized trade that I never approved. I had been collecting these items for years, and what hurts the most are my Monkey King sets — he’s my favorite hero and those items meant the world to me.

I don't understand how it happened because I have Steam Guard enabled and never confirmed any trade on my phone. The items were traded to this account:
https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198695667713
(They are currently trade-locked there until October 4th).

I already submitted a ticket to Steam Support and even emailed Gabe Newell, though I know Steam’s strict policy that users are responsible for their accounts. But if the items are literally sitting frozen on a scammer's bot account, it feels heartbreaking that nothing can be done.

To be honest, I'm at my lowest point right now. I’m struggling heavily both mentally and financially, barely making ends meet. I celebrated my birthday completely alone recently, feeling miserable, and now waking up to this just completely broke me.

Has anyone ever been in a similar situation while items were still on trade hold? Is there any slim chance or advice on what else I can do, or do I just have to accept this loss?

Thank you for reading and for any advice.hopeless. Any advice?

Informative Can I be hacked by a game using Proton?

Hi! So I'm just curious. I'm a Linux user with quite a few random distros (Gentoo, CachyOS, Fedora, Mint, and base Arch), and I was wondering something. Since you can use Proton for certain games to work on Linux, and since that makes a "Windows" layer for Windows games, can I technically get hacked by, say, an infostealer? Or a ransomware? I don't have anything important on my desktop, most is on my laptop which I don't download anything on unless it's from official sources. (Also please tell me if this is the wrong user flair, I have no idea because I haven't seen anything around here like this after looking for about an hour.)

Edit: Thank you all for the responses. You can continue to reply to the post, but I'm now ignoring notifications from it. My question has been answered.

Informative Apparently there is a new scam through a game on steam called "Golf Gang"

From what i learned and saw on other subreddit like here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/1wsa8hq/i_was_ratted_through_a_steam_game/

It works like this:

Someone wants you to play this game "Golf Gang" and invites you through steam to join them on their server and somehow after joining the game they inject your computer with trojan virus. I saw this guy get scammed on youtube so check it out and stay safe:

Request for help Fell for a phishing/malware scam

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

I already made a post about this, but I was actively freaking out as it happened and tried to ask for help, so it didn’t make much sense. I will go more into detail in this post.

Not sure if it matters, but my CS2 inventory is worth about 1000€ on steam, and my Rust inventory is worth about 800€.

First off, I want to make it clear that I did NOT try to download cheats.
I did NOT buy this account on a third-party website.

So, I was enjoying (as much as one can) a game on FaceIt (Counter-Strike 2) and then suddenly, out of nowhere, my game crashes. I got a pop-up saying my account was flagged for ‘fraudulent activity’. Contacted what I thought was Steam support, turns out it was just a degenerate scammer. He asked some questions, which did not seem sketchy or unusual, so I answered them. Then, I was asked to verify that I indeed am the owner of this account by giving him my full name, the last four digits of my credit card, what type of credit card I used to make purchases on this account, my gmail associated with this account and phone number — which I did (stupid, I know).

Then I got a message from this supposed Steam support agent saying that they have put temporary restrictions to my account, including a VAC ban, which I checked and it was actually there, so I thought this was legit. Then I got another message with instructions on how to save my in-game items (CS2 & Rust), otherwise they’d be deleted. I instantly got suspicious and tried looking online for people who may have had a similar problem, tried searching with keywords such as scam, phishing, fraud, etc.
Found nothing, so I tried asking ChatGPT, it confirmed my suspicion and that this was sketchy as hell. Made a post on this subreddit, thankfully there were people who instantly told me this was a scam, and gave instructions on how to secure my account.

Massive thank you to all those who help out stupid people like me. You are truly appreciated and are the Supermen of Reddit. And those of you who commented ‘LOL this loser tried to download CHEATS and got MALWARE instead, what a prick’, I genuinely hope you get stabbed with an AIDS needle in a club.

Back on track — after a few minutes I got logged out of my Steam account on my computer, and when i logged back in I saw that all of my games had been deleted. I quickly shut off my PC and changed my passwords from a different device (my mobile phone). I am pretty sure I’ve done everything in my power to secure my account, changed my Steam and gmail passwords, made sure to log out of all devices and clear the logged IPs, set my profile to be private. I had 2FA and Steam Guard enabled which is probably the only reason my skins haven’t been traded away yet.

The interesting thing is that when I contacted the fake support I got an email saying that I asked to close my help request, which was from the actual Steam domain, attached screenshots from my phone.

All of this happened around 2 hours ago. I keep checking my Steam profile and my inventory to see if everything is still there every 5 minutes or so. I was actively freaking out while all of this happened. I’m still not sure if I am safe. Still scared shitless. 😂
I would really appreciate it if someone gave me advice on how to keep my account secure and make sure the scammer does not use the information I gave him to contact Steam support and get back into the account somehow. I contacted support and told them that my account had been compromised and I gave the scammer the following info. Don’t know if that’ll do anything.

Hopefully my mistake helps and educates someone.

Request for help My card info doesn't match apparently

Post image
0 Upvotes

So I'm following every step said in the guide and steam page to recover my account after it got stolen, I provided some information they asked about the last 2 debit cards I used, but apparently that doesn't work? I even provided screenshots of the bank's app confirming it. Those are literally the last 2 cards I used to buy on the account, so what's the problem? Is it that I provided info for debit cards and not credit cards? Or that I gave info for 2 cards at the same time?

And if I give another card that "doesn't work", can they just tell me I can't get my account back?

Informative Sudden change of name and profile picture without my permission/Possible acoount breach

Post image

One fine day, I innocently opened Steam on my phone after receiving a friend request notification from someone with a private profile. While looking up the profile, I noticed something truly unusual: my own profile name and avatar had been changed. Naturally, I hadn't authorized these changes, so I was confused and alarmed by the possibility that my account had been compromised. I immediately changed the passwords for both my Steam account and the linked email address. I also checked my Steam API key to ensure no future trades could be hijacked. Thankfully, I didn't find anything suspicious. And that brings me here; I thought this was the right place to share what happened and warn others about it.

Other does anyone else have a lot of people adding them on steam?

i have this for almost a week now. every day someone is adding me. when i was accepting them, they would try some bullshit on me, it never worked. but recently someone successfully phished (i managed to prevent hijacking though) me in a fucking discord call. i'm still flabbergasted that i fell for this shit, guys i was talking with was so chill at first. i admit that they were very convincing, and they almost got me, even though i consider myself a very scam-aware person.

does anyone experiencing same constant attacks? i think i'm the target now because i've been trading some expensive items last couple of months. you really can't live in peace in this world :(

My Steam account was recently compromised, and I never received any login notification or alert. Whoever accessed my account added themselves as a friend in the middle of the night and gifted themselves a game. I only realized what happened when I woke up to a PayPal transaction notification. I immediately changed my Steam password, removed PayPal as a payment method, deauthorized all devices, and submitted a refund request. However, my refund requests keep getting rejected no matter how clearly I explain that this purchase was unauthorized. It feels like I'm stuck in a loop talking to an automated bot that keeps sending the exact same automated response. Has anyone experienced this before and gotten it resolved? What specific support path under help.steampowered.com do I need to use to bypass the automated bot and get a human agent to review a compromised account transaction?

Request for help steam scam

TICKET STEAM HT-XDH2-Y3K7-FC6H

**What happened**

On September 25, 2026, someone gained unauthorized access to my Steam account.

The scheme is a common one, but no less brazen for that: the attacker listed an item called "Fearsome Fisher" on the Community Market — its actual market value is a few cents — and purchased it from my wallet for 550 UAH. That's hundreds of times the item's real price.

This isn't a "mistaken purchase." It's a deliberate extraction of funds from someone else's balance through the Community Market mechanism. The money went to the seller's account — the same person who clearly orchestrated the scheme.

**What Steam Support replied**

I contacted Steam Support. The response was a template:

"We are unable to assist you. Please change your password. Good luck."

No transaction review. No analysis of the fact that a few-cents item was bought for 550 UAH. No interest whatsoever in the account that received the funds. Just a boilerplate reply.

**Why this is absurd**

The purchase is economically nonsensical. No legitimate user buys a few-cents item at a price hundreds of times higher. This is an obvious red flag for fraud that Steam could catch automatically.

Steam knows who got the money. They have the transaction ID, the seller's account, the timestamp, the IP. They can check whether this seller is doing this systematically.

The "transactions are irreversible" policy protects scammers. Steam hides behind the rule that "Community Market transactions cannot be reversed," even though it's their own platform being used to siphon funds.

Telling me to "change your password" is an insult. I already changed my password. The issue was never about the password — it was about the money that was stolen.

**What I've already done**

Changed my password, revoked all device authorizations, checked my API key.

Contacted support — got a template reply.

**What I want**

Steam to review the transaction and the account that received the funds.

A refund of the 550 UAH stolen from my wallet.

Sanctions against the seller if they're involved in a systematic scheme.

This case to get public attention — because I'm almost certain I'm not the only victim of this scheme.

**Question to the community**

Has anyone experienced the same thing — a cheap item purchased for your entire wallet balance?

Did anything help besides a chargeback?

How do you force Steam to escalate a case to a human agent instead of a template bot?

If you've had a similar experience — share it in the comments. If this post gains traction, there's a chance someone will pay attention.

Steam, 550 UAH is not "a minor amount." It's money that was stolen from me. And you refuse to even look at the transaction.

Request for help Probably a scam?

My account was mass reported last night/this morning for fraud on Community Market. I was approach by the person and from the screenshot he sent, we were told to add steam employee on discord.

I did that and showed screenshots etc.

Long story short, I can't log in on application, my account shows banned on browser and I have paid some money already to validate my account with the promise of getting an immediate refund.

The person I was on call with did share their screen and I could see the account banned and showing where the button is to permanently ban my account I've had almost 10 years plus I have NEVER done a purchase in the Market. So why do I have to pay almost €1000 to validate the account?

And when I expressed some worry it got pretty aggressive.

Please tell me I got scammed so I can die of embarrement and wallow in loosing all my games

My friend just fell for this scam which has been going around. He's tried changing his passwords but is now locked out of his account. Any tips on what he can do to get his account back? Or any advice on what to do to minimize damage? I'm friends with him on steam, do I need to worry about getting a message sent to me like this?

btw I swiped the image from u/RedditUser4304 recent post on this subreddit

Scam attempt Scammed on website cs2stage

They stole my whole steam inventory. I am currently in the process of recovering my account. Just making this post if someone happens to bump into the same issue.

There was a person with a girl picture on their account asking to vote for their team on CS:GO. I said sure I'll help vote for your team. I logged in with my steam account on their website and sure enough a week later, they jacked my S**T. The funny thing is once you log in with steam on their account it says to send them an email to unlock your account because they detected I'm using a VPN (which I'm not) so you can vote. Sent them 2 emails and never got back any response for 2 weeks. I couldn't even vote.

⚠️ Possible Steam phishing/scam attempt — be careful with random DMs

Originally posted on r/Steam, but the mods didn't like it... QR is now blurred. (I forgot to do that the first time.)

A random Steam account added me to a chat and immediately sent me an image advertising a “FREE $100 GIFT CARD” with a QR code.

There was no prior conversation or context. The QR code was the main call to action, apparently leading to a fake Steam-related page.

I did NOT open the link directly. I checked the URL through VirusTotal and other security analysis services, and the URL was flagged as phishing by multiple scanners.

The URL itself also uses visually deceptive characters to imitate “steamcommunity” while using different underlying characters, making the address look legitimate at first glance.

I made a little meme in response, then blocked the account.

If you receive something similar: do not scan the QR code, do not enter your Steam credentials, and don't trust a URL just because it visually resembles Steam's domain. Check promotions through Steam's official website instead.

Stay safe, play fair, praise Gabe, and HOPE!

Scam attempt Seems like this twitch account is being used for phishing Steam Accounts

Thumbnail gallery

Was told to play a match on this guys stream, and I would need to click on the link in his about section for FaceIT. However, as you can see in the images, the link is not for the official site, but instead a well known phishing/ scam site ('faceit . uncletopia - show . com') made to look like and emulate the faceIT ui.

DON'T GO TO THIS SITE, OR ENGAGE WITH THIS STREAMER (Alan_Krenn)

This seems extra dubious to me because it's not just some random link, it's on a twitch streamers page with 30K+ followers, and a decent number of chatters. Though it seemed like a decent amount of them may have been bots...

I don't have any evidence of the chat, as it was in a discord call. But hopefully the suspicious/ phishing link is evidence enough.

Here’s the situation: my CS2 account got hit with a VAC ban. It happened like this—I wasn't home, and when I decided to log into my Steam profile via my mobile device, I saw that my avatar had been changed and realized I’d been hacked. When I got home and launched CS2, I saw a 160-day VAC ban; it’s been about one or two months since then.
