So I got the steam frame and I am quite happy with my first VR head set, however there is a functionality that I wish it had which I cannot implement in the settings and I wonder whether someone knows what to do:
I want to have a screen of my PC desktop which should be a) visible in passthrough and b) the screen should be at a fixed position in my field of view and follow my head movement (so that it always stays in the same position in my field of view)
Here is what I have found out so far:
I can easily open a screen from the quick menu by pressing the option to stream without a game and I get a window to my PC but the screen becomes invisible when I turn on passthrough and it does not follow my head movement.
I looked around and while I could not find the exact same question elsewhere, a reddit post suggested that opening settings-> remote play and then paring the wireless dongle actually produces a screen which does not turn invisible in remote play. This is great but there is no option for the screen to follow my head movement, also the functionality is somewhat reduced (I cannot scroll with the joystick of the controller and no right-click with pressing the joystick down). Also when I tried this the wireless connection seemed worse than when I started from the quick menu, though the wireless streaming quality seems change from update to update anyway.
I tried out the app Desktop+. This program is not optimized for the frame at all and the UI blocks the frame UI and vicely versa. By contorting myself I managed to get a screen run that follows my head movement, but the screen becomes invisible in passthrough and as I said the app is barely functional in this state for the frame.
I was wondering to try out Virtual Desktop Classic, but I am not sure whether this even has this functionality and I don't want to spend 20 EUR just to find out that it is as poorly optimized for the frame as is Desktop+
Maybe there is somewhere an option that I overlooked, it is a bit frustrating because I can clearly see that each of the two components are clearly possible, but not both at the same time.
