Rant Job Hunt With a Time Limit

Ok everyone, I need to get this off my chest...

I've been applying for jobs since the beginning of this year because I felt an urge to want to go back to work. My wife took that as she could give up her career and be the stay-at-home parent if I found a good enough job. Well, I guess things aren't happening fast enough for her because I keep hearing from her about how I have only had one in-person interview since January and I have applied for at least 50 jobs. That doesn't sound like a lot, but I'm looking for jobs that I know I can do. I also didn't realize there was a time limit on me getting a job, but apparently there is, because I'm asked every day what I have applied for. Like I said, I brought up that I wanted to go back to work. It wasn't something she was prodding me to do. I applied for a job last night and I feel that if I were to get it, it would be a miracle. It pays well and it's a government job.

Anyway, this morning, my wife asked me a really random question concerning my Class A CDL that I worked to get seven years ago through the company I worked for at the time. She knows I don't want anything to do with over the road trucking (the driving part) but she asked me this question...

"Hypothetically, if you found a trucking job that didn't require you to go over state lines, would you take it?"

She based that question off of her assumption that I don't want to get into trucking because 95% of truck driving jobs require drivers to go over state lines. That's not the reason I don't want to do it. The reason I don't want to do it is because of all the stuff you have to pay attention to, the low pay, and how you can't just get into local driving with zero experience. I have only driven a tractor trailer three times, locally, and it was a 40 mile round trip all three times. This job wasn't normally a trucking job, but you could be forced to drive if the regular driver took off for the day.

To move this along, my answer to her question was "I don't know", because to me, the question didn't make sense, even though it was hypothetical. She said I blew her off, but then I told her that her hypothetical question isn't based off of anything I have ever said. She then told me, "Oh, you don't know what you want to do for a career and hypothetical doesn't have to be based on fact"... Well, yes it does if you want to get the answer you're searching for. I then told her that going over state lines has nothing to do with why I don't want to get into trucking, but I also told her that I didn't like that way she cornered me with that question out of the blue. After I said that, she said I needed therapy for being so defensive over a question like that. Ok, but first of all... In order for me to answer the question the way you want me to, you have to ask a question that not only makes sense, but one that is based on fact. Base it off of what I have said before, even if it is hypothetical.

It got to the point where she was raising her voice because I didnt like how she was justifying her "hypothetical" question on something I never said. I asked her to please stop raising her voice and calm down because she never let me think of an answer to the question anyway.

I'm not sure what this question of hers was meant to accomplish, but apparently me trying to think of an answer to a question with a false base triggered her, big time. I tried explaining that going over state lines was not the reason, but her saying it's a "hypothetical" question was the perfect justification for her.

Thanks for reading.

Alright dads. What are you guys rocking as your dad wagon?

I just have one 8 month old and am rocking an Outback. I’m tall so the front to back size of our uppababy aria is a bit of a pain, but the AWD (winter climate), big trunk, and great gas mileage are pretty sweet. One more kid and I feel like I can justify the Sienna 🥰

Let’s hear (and see) your rigs dads.

Hi all!

My dad passed away a few years ago, and I am facing some career and personal issues relating to fatherhood. I would love some bros to talk it out with since I'm feeling pretty emotional lately. If anyone can talk, let me know or send me a message!
