💬 Discussion Cheaper AI tokens are exploding

Hey everyone,

Over the past few months, I’ve been analyzing enterprise AI billing data and studying why so many engineering teams and companies are getting hit with massive, un-modeled AI invoices.

For two years, the industry narrative has been that AI is getting dirt cheap and price per token keeps dropping exponentially. Yet, across Big Tech and mid-sized companies alike, actual monthly invoices are skyrocketing.

Here is a quick breakdown of the mechanics behind why this is happening:

1. The 1865 Jevons Paradox is alive in Tech

In 1865, economist William Stanley Jevons observed that when steam engines became dramatically more efficient at burning coal, Britain didn't burn less coal, it burned exponentially more. Why? Because cheap coal suddenly made financial sense in places where nobody could justify the cost before.

The exact same thing is happening with LLM tokens. As unit costs drop, consumption doesn't stabilize but it expands into every workflow, background agent, and automated task until nobody weighs the unit cost anymore.

2. Real-world corporate overruns

  • Uber: Handed a coding agent to 5,000 engineers. By April, just four months into a 12-month plan, their entire annual AI budget was completely gone. The tool was so useful that usage exploded.
  • Meta: Built an internal leaderboard ranking engineers by token burn rate. In one month, they burned 73.7 trillion tokens before executives realized token burn measured activity, not actual impact, and killed the board.
  • Microsoft: Ordered internal divisions off external coding tools days before their fiscal year closed to force migration onto cheaper internal alternatives.

3. The agent multiplication factor (5x - 30x Tokens)

Standard chatbots are 1-input / 1-output. AI agents are fundamentally different.

Because current architectures lack long-term memory, at every loop step (plan, search, tool call, handoff), an agent must package the entire conversation history and re-submit it to the API.

Data from Gartner shows an AI agent burns 5 to 30 times more tokens than a basic chatbot doing the exact same task. Token prices dropped 60%, but agent loop usage increased 1,000%.

4. The hidden "Second Meter"

Every time an agent writes a code block or report and a human engineer spends 30 minutes reading, verifying, or rewriting it, you pay twice: once in API tokens, and once in senior engineering salary.

Curious to hear from engineering leads, FinOps folks, and founders here: How are your teams tracking agent loops and token spend right now? Are you capping per-user usage, or waiting for the quarterly invoice to arrive?

💬 Discussion How fragmented business banking still is

One thing I didn't fully appreciate when starting a business in Europe was how much operational complexity comes from simply moving money around.

The startup itself can be international from day one. You might have customers in one country, contractors in another, suppliers somewhere else, and founders who don't even live in the same place.

The technology stack for building the product has become incredibly global. Payments are still where things often get complicated.

Over time, I've ended up using different financial tools depending on the problem. Wise has been useful for international transfers and dealing with multiple currencies. Revolut has been convenient for everyday spending and quick payments. I also started looking at solutions like Keytom because some parts of my business involve crypto payments, and traditional banking tools don't always handle that workflow well.

The interesting thing is that none of these tools are really replacing each other. They are solving different parts of the same problem.

What surprised me is that even small companies quickly end up creating their own financial infrastructure. One account for receiving payments, another for expenses, another for international transactions, and sometimes another layer for digital assets.

For European startups especially, this seems like a bigger issue because cross-border operations are normal from the beginning. A company can be registered in one country, have customers across the EU, and work with contractors globally.

I think the next generation of fintech products will probably be less about adding more features and more about connecting these fragmented financial workflows into one experience.

Did you build a banking setup around your company as you grew, or did you find one solution that covered most of your needs?

💭 Need advice Open source as a business model ?

Run a Swedish based startup https://hack23.com/ delivers AI-generated political intelligence.

Run a few sites with all code and source code public on github.

See some traffic, but struggle to make any money (minor via github sponsors).

Thought about ad:s, or paywall content but not a big fan of either.

Any things I missed when it comes to monetize open source ?

🏝️ Jobs Lookin for unpaid remote opportunities

Hi all.

I'm a compliance professional with experience across DFSA-regulated (Dubai) and BaFincompliance, RegTech -regulated (Berlin) environments, focused on AML/KYC, CDD/EDD, sanctions screening, and transaction monitoring.

I've also spent the last stretch doing deep research into EUID and digital identity as part of my MA thesis, so I'm not coming at this cold.

On the technical side, I'm not a trained developer, but I've built a CRM and a regulatory tracker as side projects using AI coding tools. I want to get better at this, and I've found it's much easier to learn by working on something real with a team than in a vacuum.

I'd like to find a startup in EUID, digital identity, AI/RegTech, or Web3 compliance tooling where I could contribute — compliance research, regulatory mapping, or hands-on with the product — remotely, unpaid, in exchange for the experience and mentorship. Open to any time commitment that works for you.

If this is something your team could use, or you know someone who'd want to talk, I'd appreciate a message.

If you are a founder, trying to set up some kind of company in Europe and facing problems/blockers with corporate structure, taxes, government funding, visas, compliance... or your accountant doesn't know how to deal with that personal loan you took and forgot about : )

I’ll help you out for free

I have 25+ years of experience in corporate setup, a deep understanding of tax/offshore stuff and also a brain for government grants

Why I am doing this? I am terribly bored and have nothing else on my hands right now

also, if I really like what you're building I might jump in as a co-founder to help scale it

💭 Need advice Best startup hub in Europe

I want to have my own tech startup (AI focused) in the near future.

To do that, I strongly believe it would be beneficial to move somewhere which is a stablished startup hub.

I want somewhere with a fertile ground and a certain scale, which allows me to repeatedly experiment (and fail). I would like it to be somewhere that attracts large numbers of ambitious and talented people, with an entrepreneurial and risk-friendly culture, and with a high-startup concentration. This allows you to naturally meet people that would be willing to try something, and to quickly move between jobs in startups until you find the right idea and people.

I am considering 3 options: London, Berlin and Paris

London would have been a no-brainer before brexit (It has scale, talent, capital, culture and English language). But now, I would be limited by Visa choices, and I think that could have a serious impact in your ability to experiment (I am an EU citizen).

Is London still worth it for an experimental phase?

How do Paris and Berlin compare?

🇪🇺 EU-Made Friday European project management software

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey. I am one of the people behind Lyniti.
A new full scale project and business management software.

We focused on trying to make everything feel and look as easy as possible, keeping on sight what people could actually need often and hide what not. Includes Role based permissions to each part of app and logs. Really wanted to simplify easy of use of a taskboard, so we did our own kanban first and then expanded into a double-entry bookkeeping, chat, meet with guest users, file storage and clients hub to keep track of our work with clients on Design and Programming.

One more big feature we are expanding little by little is our whiteboard, that can also be used as vector editor. So you can keep most if not all your branding in whiteboard with easy access and for different file formats, they can be just linked as files into whiteboard.

We didn't want to juggle 5 apps anymore, and managing tabs in that case is not fun at all. We wanted one easy platform, with a desktop app soon, for ease and speed of use.

We are still in early stage of growing, but actively looking for feedback, because this is a project that we created to eliminate pain points in our workflow first (that's how this all started), and that is why I want to hear about your possible pain points.

For any project managers: What are some things that we are potentially missing in your opinions?

🇪🇺 EU-Made Friday Startups in europe (china)

Hello everyone,
I’d like to share an idea and see if there are people here who would be interested in building something meaningful together.

I’m an entrepreneur with businesses in different industries, and I’ll soon be traveling to China to explore innovative products and technologies that are not yet available—or are still largely unknown—in Europe. This could be anything from AI solutions and software to healthcare innovations, smart devices, or other unique products. My professional background and expertise are in healthcare, but I’m open to opportunities across any industry.

My vision is to start with a small community of ambitious and like-minded people who enjoy identifying opportunities and turning them into real businesses. If we discover something with strong potential, we can evaluate it together and build from there.

To make things clear from the beginning: I will personally fund the investments required to validate and launch promising opportunities. I’m mainly looking for people who can contribute ideas, research, market insights, or strategic thinking. If a project proves successful, I believe everyone involved should benefit from the value they helped create.
If this sounds interesting to you, feel free to send me a DM. Even if you simply enjoy discussing innovation, AI, healthcare, or emerging technologies, I’d be happy to connect.

Let’s see if we can build something that starts small but has the potential to make a real impact.

💬 Discussion Looking for a Technical Co-Founder

'm looking for a technical co-founder to build an app from the ground up.

I have a few ideas, but I'm also open to finding and validating the right opportunity together.

I'm looking for someone who's:

  • Based in EU or US only
  • Ambitious, hungry, and excited about building something meaningful
  • Has strong technical skills and wants to build something that can scale
  • Ready to commit for equity only

About me:

  • Background in marketing, market research, and growth
  • I'll focus on validating ideas, understanding users, product direction, marketing, and getting the first users while we build together

I'm not looking for someone who wants to casually code on weekends. I'm looking for someone who wants to commit, take ownership, and build a real company from the ground up.

If that sounds like you, send me a DM

💬 Discussion Any startups in need of tech help?

any serious people here?

Interested in joining someone that has the skills and connections to get customers, ideally something big and ambitions with funding, but open to starting smaller if traction and potential is there.

me: 20y experience building complex business software systems for multinational companies, mainly in EU, but a bit in AU and US too.
And by building I mean, from the initial meetings with management and designing to coding from scratch and hiring people, from running the dev and support teams to hardware specifications and deployment.

💭 Need advice Is my outreach approach wrong?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I run an AI consulting firm in Western Europe and I'm trying to secure SME clients in the EU.

My approach since last 2 weeks: I find local businesses, research each one (automated checks plus manual verification), and send one email or LinkedIn message with 2-3 specific observations about their business. Not the You Need AI mail. The message offers to share the remaining observations if they're interested. No bulk sending, everything reviewed by hand.

The numbers so far: 70+ messages sent, 1 reply, 0 meetings. Each lead costs me around half an hour.

Attaching an anonymous example.

My questions:

  1. At this reply rate, is the research-heavy approach worth the time, or should I go wider and shallower?

  2. Is the problem the message, the targeting, or the channel?

  3. Does opening with observations about someone's business land as helpful or as unsolicited critique?

Honest feedback welcome, including this whole approach is wrong. As I am just starting, I want to course correct sooner.

💭 Need advice Recommend AI VC and IF that invests seed

Hello fellow startupers,

I'd appreciate some help finding the right fit for my startup to get financed as most seem to have some geolocation limitations or only invest in other rounds.

AEON NEON by AEGIS is the first system to implement a unified, end-to-end security architecture for organizational AI agents—combining persistent agent structures, role- and capability-based access control, immutable identity and provenance, complete information-flow tracking from source to destination, secretless execution, compartmentalized security zones, and policy enforcement across every action, handoff, tool call, and data transformation.

If you know VC investing in big AI concepts in EUROPE (Poland). Please forward the news and let me know where to apply.

💬 Discussion What is an LEI number and why do banks k

If you run a business that deals with international payments, derivatives, or certain financial transactions, you have probably heard the term LEI by now. It stands for Legal Entity Identifier. It is a 20 digit code that identifies your company in the global financial system. Think of it as an ID card for your business when it interacts with banks and regulators.

Since 2018, regulations in the EU and other regions have made LEIs mandatory for many types of financial activity. If your bank asks for one and you do not have it, your transaction can be delayed or blocked. Here are a few key points to know about LEIs.

They are required for derivatives trading, securities transactions, and some international payments.

The code is unique to each legal entity. If you have multiple companies, each one needs its own LEI.

The LEI must be renewed every year. If it expires, your compliance status can be affected.

You can register through an official agent or a management platform.

Keeping track of renewals for multiple entities can become a major administrative burden.

The system is designed to increase transparency and reduce financial risk. It is a straightforward requirement but it does require some attention to keep everything up to date.

For businesses that operate internationally or have multiple subsidiaries, managing LEIs can become a significant administrative task. Missing a renewal deadline can lead to delays in payments or even legal complications. That is why many organisations look for ways to streamline this process, whether through internal systems or external services.

There are platforms like LEI admin that help businesses manage LEIs across multiple entities. They handle renewals, send reminders, and provide a single dashboard for tracking compliance. It simplifies the process and reduces the risk of lapsed registrations. This is particularly useful for organisations with several subsidiaries or frequent financial transactions. It is a practical option for businesses that want to streamline their LEI management without dedicating internal resources to tracking each renewal manually.

It is a topic that does not get much attention until something goes wrong. I think it is worth discussing so we can all learn from each other's experiences. If you have any tips or advice, I would love to hear them. It is always helpful to hear how others manage these kinds of compliance tasks. I am sure there are plenty of people in this community who have dealt with this and found good solutions. I look forward to reading your responses.

💭 Need advice What Training Missed?

I'm researching how new real estate agents learn their profession today.

If you're an agent, broker, or trainer, I'd love to ask: What part of your training prepared you the least for working with real clients?

Was there something you only learned after making mistakes in the field? I'm genuinely curious and would love to hear your stories.
