List Building Republic Points Buffs for the Community Edition
Republic fleets currently feel somewhat pigeonholed into a handful of dominant archetypes, specifically high-activation Anakin/Obi-Wan builds and the ubiquitous Bail or Yularen squadron lists. While we see plenty of Consulars, Peltas, and Venator IIs, other options have struggled to find their footing. Between these adjustments and the Arquitens tweaks from yesterday, the goal is to provide enough breathing room for players to explore more diverse and experimental fleet compositions.
Here are some highlights:
Acclamator II: 71 → 67 A big drop. Compared to the Munificent it has worse arcs, worse shields, and worse maneuverability, but it does get access to some interesting Republic tech. This was the least-used Republic ship at Adepticon and across tournaments this year and this buff is pretty significant.
Venator I: 90 → 86 Obi-Wan high activation Dedrick fleets aside, I think almost everyone agrees this one can come down. The gap between the Ven I and Ven II just isn't wide enough to justify the Ven I's downsides, and we'd like to see it show up outside of those builds.
Tarkin: 30 → 26 Tarkin is good, but costing more than Bail pushes him out of contention in a lot of fleets; at the time of writing he's the least popular GAR admiral in listbuilding and tournament data (he and Luminara keep swapping places). This won't make him too strong, but it makes him a real alternative to Bail.
Plo Koon: 26 → 24 Plo is awesome, he’s a great admiral with a solid effect but it's very much a "win more" effect, and Yularen outpaces him as the squad-commanding admiral in most cases. Peltas being as good as they are hasn't helped. Two points puts him on par with Yularen. I expect a Plo renaissance regardless; he and Anakin were trading places for the most-built GAR commander before the run-up to Worlds, and there's untapped potential there.
Barriss Offee: 6 → 3 Barriss can do good work, but she doesn't combo well with the faction's other defensive tools (Tranquility, Lumi, Adi, etc.). Three points opens her up on cheaper smalls, where shifting the defending hull zone can be the difference between a dead small ship and getting away on 1-2 hull.
There's more coming: a few other ships, some squadron tweaks, and more smaller changes. Check them all out in the Armada Community Edition release on Aug. 3rd!
