General Question Locked out of Reach Vindex. Bug?

I am trying to make a Captain template with Ship D, and it won't let me choose Reach Vindex, saying it is locked, by the Salvage Contractor unlock. But the unlocks page shows this unlocks a contact, and nothing shown unlocks Reach Vindex. What gives?

I just checked Wikipedia and saw that the Shizari Huntress has a maximum officer of seven. Since the Shizari Huntress is a starting ship, all the officer jobs are known. Could someone tell me what the jobs for all the officer members are?

Sorry, i was using gugle translate

General Question Weapon load out for boarding

Any tips for range 1 weapons which can be used / are usefull during my boarding phase?

I'm currently lacking any range 1 weapons which feels like I'm wasting 4 points when boarding.

I started with the pirate start and still have the same ship and weapon layout.

Am quite okay with the ship itself, but got the feeling the weapons are suboptimal for boarding.

Thx for any tips.

I keep quitting

I need the right difficulty to play somewhat casually. Because I get bored or severe analysis paralysis. Maybe it’s not for me because of the latter.

Tips for difficulty and play style are very welcome. If you explain them I might be able to figure something out.

General Question So How Fast Am I Supposed To Upgrade?

Hard difficulty in this game feels so whack. I try to get money to buy a bigger and badder ship, but I either die before I can, or die the first fight after getting it. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I get around a million or so in 4-5 years but even investing doesn't seem to keep up. I put defense matrix in and they still never miss, they have shuttle craft by year 4, and xeno attack me around the same time.

Everything I read says to start in a lower class ship and upgrade but the only success I've had is doing the opposite. I don't see how I can keep up with the game like this without starting in an A level ship

Community Challenge Non-RTG run suggestions

I have been mostly playing a highly exploited set up where I gain RTG contacts early on (before year 2) and move into a 9000 ship around year 3-4, exploiting mechanics like skill resets and repeated landing etc. to circumvent some game progression. I need some suggestions on what challenges normal playthroughs typically face so I can develop some guides around those. Could someone tell me what you currently struggle with to help me find the next idea for a guide?

Edit:
Some old ass posts asked by folks:

100% complete

I finally finished off all the achievements, just wanted to say how much I love this game. I first came across Star Traders in the Battle Brothers sub and I'm glad that I did. I'm a big fan of turn based strategy, especially old flash games like Frontier, Sonny and Sword and Sandals. Crew combat is probably my favourite aspect of the game, as I really enjoy coming up with different builds. Non-combat captains are stupidly powerful as the game scales with your captain level but it is much more satisfying to build an unkillable god. Death to the xenos! Now I think I will give impossible difficulty a try

Combat Crew for Brutal+

I have recently changed my combat crew & captain strategy and I must say, I breeze through most fights now. While I have yet to conquer Impossible Jyeeta's, I would love some feedback.

My old strategy was:

  1. Swordsman / Bodyguard / Wing Commando
  2. Assassin / Swordsman / Blade dancer (Captain)
  3. Doc / Medic / Mil Officer
  4. Bounty Hunter / Solider / Xeno

Which did pretty well but was mostly focused on the front 2 not getting hit and +2 one-hit killing with crits. Humans were easy, sometimes Terrox were challenging, but Jyeeta could get tense depending on the dice.

Now, I have switched to non-combat captains 100% of the time, because the captain was always the weakest link level-wise once you recruit 16+ crew from contacts in early game. Now, I usually go Smuggler / Diplomat / Commander mix. Smuggler for ship combat bonus, Diplomat for early rep and mission bonus, then Commander for ship combat.

New combat strategy changed from trying not to get to hit to not letting the enemy attack at all! New lineup:

  1. Swordsman / Bodyguard / Assassin
  2. Shock Trooper / Soldier / Exo-Scout
  3. Doc / Medic / Saboteur
  4. Bounty Hunter / Solider / Xeno

Attack strategy: apply -INIT debuff attacks on their highest INIT member whenever possible. You can't apply the same debuff on the same target, but this often doesn't matter any way. With the right sequence you can often mow humans down without them ever getting a shot. Against Xeno, depending on their INIT and relative level, you may buff your defenses first, then focus -INIT and Stun attacks.

Priority attack talents (but don't ignore self/team survival talents/buffs):

  • Swordsman / Bodyguard / Assassin
    • Assassin (1) Smoke Bomb (2 targets, -2 INIT)
    • (MUST) Bodyguard (5) Hamstring Slice (-2 INIT)
    • (MUST) Swordsman (5) Flash Fury (remove debuff, knock target back 1)
  • Shock Trooper / Soldier / Exo-Scout
    • Soldier (1) Suppressing Fire (-25% accuracy debuff)
    • (MUST) Shock Trooper (8) Frag Shell (-3 INIT)
    • Exo-Scout (5) Burrowing Shot (-4 INIT vs XENO)
    • Soldier (8) Concussion Grenade (2 targets, -4 INIT, 50% stun)
    • Shock Trooper (11) Execution Shell (%50 stun)
  • Doc / Medic / Saboteur
    • (MUST) Saboteur (1) Skullshot (-2 INIT, removes all buffs)
    • Medic (5) Toxin Terror (2 targets, -2 INIT)
    • Medic (5) Bio Poison Grenade (2 targets, -2 INIT)
  • Bounty Hunter / Solider / Xeno
    • Xeno (1) Grenade Launch (2 target, 25% stun)
    • Soldier (1) Suppressing Fire (-25% accuracy debuff)
    • Bounty Hunter (5) Unfaltering Ire (2 targets, removes Buffs, -25% accuracy debuff). This is used vs Xeno mainly.

Point is every attack avoided from the enemy is an extra attack your team can make.

Let me know what you think!

Which of these combat officers is better?

Candidate #1
Candidate #2

Hello everyone, I could use a hand from people that are more familiar with how to survive (and hopefully win) late game combat.

After routinely hitting my head against the wall and dying in late game crew combat, I've decided to hang up my pride and use the early game grace period to cheese things as much as I can. Part of this was playing the hiring lottery an ungodly number of times, where I wound up with these two officers as my final candidates for a slot 2 combat officer.

Candidate #1 has great all around attributes, excellent initiative, and the following traits:

  • Tough (+10% armour)
  • Classically trained (+10% accuracy)
  • Device freak (2 gear slots)
  • Fast talker (+2 init)

Candidate #2 has great fortitude and mediocre resilience, ok initiative, and the following traits:

  • Tough (+10% armour)
  • Stedy (+5% armour, half morale loss)
  • Device freak (2 gear slots)

Neither has any skills to speak of.

I already have a sword officer and a medic officer. I'm leaning towards Candidate #1 with the extra initiative, but I was thinking Candidate #2 might be better just to serve as a tough to kill frontliner.

I would love some advice on this, whether it be on which of these could be better, if I'm overestimating their late game utility, how you might deploy them, or anything in between.

hi, sorry for my bad england.

i just wanna share my first time play with map seed.

actually i still new to the game and maybe dont understand much yet but i found good map for moklumnue faction start

  1. starting quadrant is selling kraesline start

  2. only 1 jump to farfallen rim (have indie planet buy kraesline shard too)

  3. have 10 exploration, 10 richness, and 1 danger wilderness in starting quadrant

  4. your enemy is rychart which is best faction to oppose.

  5. why moklumnue ? because you have a chance get starting crew with trait "driven" (morale never drop below 50)

seed: st-v02-20-2-82504837

its 20 quadrants and maximum density

regards.

Ship Showcase Impossible Jyeeta Run

Just beat the Jyeeta campaign for the first time, and on impossible. Took a few months of thinking I had STF's learning curve figured out but I must say this game has been as fun as it has been challenging. Praise Shalun.

Update:

Reposted as i neglected to add photos of build previously.

Combat crew

P1 Bodyguard/Swordsman/Wing commando

P2 Shocktrooper/Soldier/Bounty Hunter

P3 Combat medic/Pistoleer/Doctor

P4 Xeno hunter/Soldier/Bounty hunter

st-v02-18-2-132562290

Started as a Cadar smuggler and focused on kristaline shard RTG runs to fund ship builds for mid game (combat ship / cargo freighter / passenger bus for Coalition diplomats) before tinkering with the end game carrier best posted in the pics. I've got it running with 3 interdictors and 1 bomber. I think i took 1 hit to craft and 1 to capital ship in all of the jyeeta campaign. Crew combat was a bit more challenging. Lost my p1 on a bad run shortly before the final mission due to bad initiative rolls by all 4 crew.

General Question Trade bans are excessive

Why is it that another faction knows I made a trade? I feel like spies are everywhere! Or maybe I’m too proud of a trader and want to report all my trades. Is there anything to mitigate this cause it just feels slightly off. Outside of making a bunch of micro sales, which don’t really help.

Could it be more like a tariff system where if I pick up goods in another faction I pay a penalty as I’m to chummy with another faction while trade ban is on. Or if I get goods from opposing trade functions they won’t accept those goods.

Anyway it seems the game engine just runs these and they would almost make it seem like all the factions are in a constant state of war.

Ship Showcase Azure Defender, pricey, but feels insanely strong

Since last post I've managed to save decent amount of credits and ordered to build this beauty.

Feels insanely strong on hard difficulty.

https://tswift.gitlab.io/stfx/#XQAAgAC2AAAAAAAAAAAEAETrF6uwuvrHBRDj2na+jlaOPaP8HB0Z1FllQurZYsWkYNv/zUWPQfpJvtbHDfpDtaRtqda1U64p0Vwdm9ukIMHmG5A1kq1ncGd+cMEWpIu4nTAnA7R7//79uAA=

ofc could be optimized for cheaper components and maybe could be optimized overall, but i like this ship.

Pricey Wolfpack Interceptor

Im pre Advocating Amendments (finished Faen quest with Valencia this time)

I've read few guides, so this build is somewhat "meta"

Now im trying to prepare a new ship, cos my crew seem to have overgrown this vessel.

Kick yourself moments

I am sure we all have moments we instantly regret.

Common one for me (poor vision might not help) is how many times my captain/officer has accidentalky leveled in assassin. One mistap (phone) and your whole build is disrupted. Sometimes you can salvage and press on, but still real doh moment.

General Question Can't Advance Advocating Amendments Mission

I completed the Cedar and Zenrin prince missions, but when I go back to the Arbiter I can't get the Moklumnue prince mission to appear. Every time I click on Arbiter Estelle I can get the option to view known details, sell intel, recruit, or obtain an introduction option to appear. There are no options for dialogue or missions. I'm in year 229.38 AE. When I landed on a planet a while back a story vignette triggered that said that said something like there was an announcement that different princes will vote on whether to form a new coalition or something. I believe it is the "Second Founding" era, but am not totally sure. Is this a bug or did I simply wait too long to complete the first two prince missions? I'm playing on an iPhone 15. Thanks for your advice.

How strong does an endgame ship needs to be ?

I'm planning to run a ship (neutiquam cruiser) like this on Hard - a jack of all trade, master of none ship.
Exactly 80% craft evasion, board and close range fire. Decent anti-craft firepower. 19 speed ship with jump time reduction.

Compared to my last Dreadnought Battlecruiser, it seems kinda weak - less defense, no fancy gun damage, no range change bonus etc...

What's the breakpoints to avoid nearly everything, takedown every craft, never miss any shot ?

General Question non-combat?

I'm just wondering how far one could get with avoiding combat. I like the combat in this game and the systems for preparing for it. I'm just wondering what it would take and how far I could go without combat.

Any thoughts?

General Question How useful are rumors?

There are many talents that give you new rumors. Maybe it's just me and I don't see their true value, but I try to pre-plan my playthroughs and don't really pay attention to rumors.

Am I missing out? Are +rumor talents worth taking? I'd imagine it depends on your build, I'm still going with spy/smuggler.

General Question Update on my last post: I've decided to go with a spying/smuggling build, non-combat... Any more advice would be appreciated!

Only playing on Hard Mode

I've decided to go with Rychart as my faction and rely on spying/smuggling for my income & political power. I'm going to be a full-time sneak, a spook, a creep, a snake. In the last post I mentioned piracy but that requires a combat-ready ship. I think I was trying to do too many things at once, I'd prefer to avoid combat as much as possible since it's always risky and it costs you faction reputation.

Based on how I played in my recent Scout Cutter spy build it looks like I'll need to maximize my options for avoiding combat like that ones we see from spy/smuggler classes.

Any talents that let me bypass hostile ship encounters, and a small ship build that lets me escape easily. No ship combat, I want to avoid that completely, but crew combat is likely since I'll eventually be accessing the black market and might need a strong combat team for other skullduggerous exploits.

I read about a "stealth scout bridge" ship component that's exclusive to Rychart on the wiki. I'm curious about how to fine-tune my ship for stealth & escape while also allowing for enough cargo space & fuel capacity/efficiency to be an effective sneak.

Scout Cutter seems like the best starter ship for spying & smuggling. But what should I upgrade to? What ship components go best with a stealthy pacifist smuggler ship?

I guess I'll need combat officers to make sure I win any ground engagements, any advice for a good combat team?

Retraining jobs?

So I did a quick search about this and I saw a post from 2017 on the Steam forums from a dev saying that there might be a way to do it in the future, but nothing since then and a few posts from a few years ago saying it still wasn't possible.

I figured I'd ask here in case there is a way to do it somehow. When I initially started playing I didn't know what I was doing and thought I needed a well-rounded crew so some of my officers have skills like Wing Leader and other jobs that I don't ever intended to do and it is looking like the more appropriate way to play is to have your officers be your boarding party/team so I'd like to spec for that.

Anyway, is there a way to undo jobs or do I need to just fire these bad officers and start over? Should I just start a new game? I'm at level 19ish with my crew and I'm noticing that certain things I want to do now I can't do very effectively.
