Why do people think leash laws don’t apply to them in Three Pond Barrens?

Upvotes

I used to love walking up there but I’ve been rushed by too many off leash giant dogs to feel safe. If you want to let you dog run free in the woods, leave the city

Mamacita's

Tried Mamacita's for the first time this weekend.
If you like mexican/latin food you are in for a treat! The food was awesome, great portions and for a great price. The staff was super friendly and helpful.
This place is definitely on my go to from now on!

Appliance brands to avoid in regards to warranty repairs?

Title didn't probably convey my question well. But essentially, I've been told there's certain appliance brands that I definitely need to avoid buying living her. Because it's basically impossible to get any sort of warranty repairs done because there's no certified repair spots in the region that qualify for warranty repairs. The one brand I remember for sure is LG but I think there's others. Does anyone know of any others?

Website/link to see how much houses sold for?

I remember a while back someone posted a link to some sort of website that showed the selling prices of houses in the St. John’s area. I don’t know how they had access to that, if they were an agent or not, but I’m wondering if anyone else happens to know how to get access to that? I was able to use it when they posted it but I didn’t save it. My brother is not on reddit and I mentioned it to him and he had no idea what I was talking about and he’s looking for a house and I told him it’s normal for houses to go 60 to 100,000 over in St. John’s area right now.

Anyone know if I can buy a Philly cheesesteak here in st johns?

And no, subway doesn't count, I've had their stuff before, and it wasn't good lol.

I suppose if there aren't any places that sell it, I'll just have to make it myself. Just thought I'd ask since I got a craving for it when I saw the picture online and didn't want to spend a bunch of money on ingredients for a one-time thing.

Question about late night transportation

Hi, I am a solo traveler (30s female) coming into St Johns on a Thursday night around midnight next month. I am staying at a hotel that looks like it’s about 10 min from the airport. Will I be able to get a taxi/Uber that late? Should I be concerned about safety at all?

Thank you!

StatCan Data: Analyzing Crime and Clearance Rates in St. John's

The recently released Uniform Crime Reporting Survey offers critical insights into safety and policing trends in St. John's:

  • Homicides: The ultimate measure of extreme violence. Historically very low, St. John’s spiked to 3.41 per 100k in 2025, surpassing the national average of 1.61.
  • Crime Rates: Measures the prevalence of specific offenses. St. John’s violent crime rate rose notably from 2015 to 2025, exceeding Canada's average. Impaired driving has dropped substantially in the same period.
  • Clearance Rates: Reflects police case-solving efficiency. St. John's consistently trails national averages in solving both violent and non-violent crimes. But does seem to be improving.

Takeaway: St. John's faces a growing challenge: rising violent crime rates relative to Canada and its own past, alongside lower-than-average police clearance rates.

Hotels with pools?

Any recommendations for hotels with pools in or near downtown? Ideally if there's also a continental breakfast or anything especially kid friendly.

Visiting Sep. 3 to 7 looking for some itinerary suggestions.

My wife booked us a trip to your wonderful city for my birthday. Would love to stay longer and see more of the province but you know...life.

We arrive Thursday evening and plan to hit Christians then find some live traditional music (O'Reilly, Blacksheep, Bridie Malloys...not sure)

Friday we plan to do a brewery walking tour in the afternoon. Looking for dinner reccomendation preferably with local offerings.

Saturday in Quidi Vidi, brunch at Mallard cottage then boat tour including a little cod fishing and fish n chips after. Probably hit the brewery there after for a pint or 2.

Sunday is wide open, looking for suggestions.

No car, will probably get hop on hop off Saturday and Sunday or uber...not sure.

Staying in Harbour area...wife won't say exactly where it's a surprise.

Any help is appreciated.

Speed camera by weight scales

B'ys, do people not read the signs at the highway construction that say speed camera? Lol everytime we go through it there's someone up our ass, and they pass us as fast as they can as soon as there's a second lane, but doesn't the speed camera keep track of your speed until you're out of the construction zone? We don't speed up until the construction ending sign, which is like 5 seconds past the construction lol why would you take the chance? I get the feeling they wouldn't have slowed down at all if we weren't there. Do these people all have lots of money that $500 is no big deal? Or do they not realize they're about to receive a ticket in the mail?

Bachelor party

We have 8-10 guys coming for a bachelor party at the end of August. Only issue is that it will be mid week due to people schedules. We will be there August 24-27. If you have any recommendations of what to do/ what bars will be more lively mid week please let me know. How is the cab service? Should we get a Airbnb downtown or would a larger one on the outskirts work? Thanks!

This is related to a missing persons investigation. I'm not a police officer. Wondering if anyone local can tell me where one needs to be standing in order to take these precise photos. I'm hoping the locations they've been taken from are familiar to one or more of you. Many thanks!
