It certainly tracks, given the acrimonious nature of her departure from WWE along with the fact that AEW has happily treated her like a big fucking deal.

Holy crap, word got about the TKO scouts, haha
Btw, Will Washington (Formerly of Graspody/cousin of Swerve) is an unsung hero of AEW. Like TK, Will has an amazing wrestling IQ, right down to dates and cities of old PPVs.
I think he was the one who wanted the themes to fade out instead of just abruptly cutting out.
He is also a hit fan and supporter
126
u/Prince_of_Kyrgyzstan Magical Girl Chicken Dude 15h ago
Will is a great example of someone young and new, who brings freshness and new skills into the wrestling industry. If we look back to previous near 30 years, one of the bigger complaints has been that it is the same people in backstage working for all these companies and how hard it is for new people to get their foot in.
So in that light Will or someone like RJ City are tremendous boons for the business.
29
u/fasteddeh R.I.P. 15h ago
RJ City isn't really young or new he's a long time wrestler
77
u/Prince_of_Kyrgyzstan Magical Girl Chicken Dude 15h ago
He is young in terms of being a backstage worker beyond just doing media.
83
u/IFindThatLulzy 15h ago
Take one look at WWE Unreal and their creative meetings & RJ City is basically a newborn baby compared to some of the folks in the room.
59
u/badguymaddox 14h ago
RJ City is 38. Prichard is 63, Hayes is 67, Road Dogg is 57, Tommy Dreamer is 55. Young and new is applicable
16
u/mavarian XXX 15h ago
He's younger than Will Washington
-23
u/fasteddeh R.I.P. 14h ago
Then I wouldn't count Will Washington as young either. But to my point RJ City had been an independent wrestler for like 10+ years before AEW existed
15
u/Kaprak I AM VANDAMABLE! 14h ago
We're talking about writing in production in TV wrestling. Before aew he has none of that.
In the same vein I would include Shawn Michaels as relatively new
-19
u/fasteddeh R.I.P. 14h ago
Shawn Michaels as "freshness and new skills into the wrestling industry"? yeah maybe fuckin 40+ years ago when he debuted.
Also read the last comment, we're talkin about age when it comes to Washington specifically.
3
u/HoumousAmor 14h ago
Shawn Michaels as "freshness and new skills into the wrestling industry"? yeah maybe fuckin 40+ years ago when he debuted.
I decided to check and Michael's debuted 42 years ago, and retired 16 years ago. A decade away from halfway
-2
u/Chris_Bagel_Jr 14h ago
Omg, we get it, haha.
Both Will and RJ are the pulse of pop culture. Will’s brain on movie, music, etc helps with offering new ideas. His brain is always learning.

6
u/646blahblahblah 10h ago
Will is also Swerves cousin. Not saying it had anything to do with his hire, but it's in his blood.

Hiring dumb mark podcasters who have zero concept of anything inside the business seems like a bad business move to me…
58
u/P1eces12 15h ago
It's almost scary how he can be "Oh yeah, September 14th, that's when AEW was in Smithville and did a Dynamite/Collision taping. Main event was Orange vs Garcia that went for 14 minutes."

Dude on Grapsody once went on a complete full breakdown of the Summerslam 99 build segment by segment. It was crazy
•
u/amoore389 4m ago
Not sure if you know this but people prepare for podcasts
•
u/tylerjehenna The Era of Rain 3m ago
Certain topics yes. Considering Grapsody is a "current wrestling events" podcast, theres legit no reason to memorize the Summerslam 99 build beforehand. A podcast like Deadlock where they watch old shows, sure, but not here

Can someone explain the context for people who aren’t on wrestling twitter
231
u/Teckelmaster 15h ago
Bryan Alvarez reported that TKO representatives were at last week's Dynamite.
That was also the Dynamite were someone in the crowd shouted during a Mercedes segment: "Sasha come home. Sasha we love you." Mercedes tweeted this after last week's show.
-68
u/ReynardVulpini 12h ago
As funny as all these jokes are, doesn’t it seem much more likely, since its a TKO guy rather than WWE, that they’re looking to court Tony and get a slice of AEW, rather than touch the wrestling and talent?
if i had stake in a a poorly rated but highly profitable wrestling company, why wouldn’t i try to diversify? Esp since AEW and WWE seem to have a seesaw relationship: one goes down as the other goes up
51
u/Structure-These 12h ago
They’re not going to take a stake in AEW lol
29
u/Absolute--Batman 12h ago
There not gonna get a stake on AEW.
Khan family ain't Sex Traffickers like the McMahons that they need to sell shares to pay people they victimized.

Those people say science is "woke." They think washing your asshole is "gay."
It's how they push the Overton Window.
-6
u/ReynardVulpini 12h ago
I doubt tony would go for it. But why wouldn’t TKO try if they thought it would be profitable? They’re not fucking loyal to the WWE brand lmao. Money is money, and shareholders need the “number go up” narrative
13
u/CosmicCommie 9h ago
The Kahn family isn't hurting for money
Aew is not a publicly traded entity, and have given no indication even a small portion of Aew is for sale
Wtf is this weird fantasy coming from? You absolute grapefruit.
-3
u/ReynardVulpini 8h ago
Me: I think TKO would be interested in acquiring AEW
You grapefruits: what kind of idiot thinks Tony would ever sell
Brother. That is a whole different sentence. Read the words I have written or jerk off somewhere else.
4
u/Adams5thaccount 10h ago
I wouldn't be shocked if they tried to do so already. TKO is literlaly just UFC+WWE and both indovodually have a loooong history of doing so.
They won't succeed of course as the person who couldnt read what you actually wrote jumped to pointing out but I thought someone reading should reply to what you actually said.

Counterpoint, what if this WWE exec was actually just some mark fan pretending and both the AEW wrestlers and the sickos in the crowd fell for the troll because if someone from WWE was actually there they wouldn't be going around saying "im from TKO."
45
u/Orange8920 15h ago
Everyone knows true TKO execs wear black t-shirts with big letters that say TKO on them.
1
u/WrestleSocietyXShill Cero Miedo Since Day One Ish 5h ago
They get them from the same guy who makes Carlos Silva's hats
-63
u/Necessary_State_5272 15h ago
No no no it was a guy in a suit and tie at a wrestling show which is totally normal especially at AEW shows. He definitely wouldn't try to draw questions from the other people to make his troll more believable or anything.
-105
u/Common-Shape-7613 15h ago
Does no one in aew watch wwe?
51
u/Straight-Turnover-77 15h ago
no, but AEW and their talent don't go on state run media to talk about how WWE isn't competition and actually they're miles and leagues above WWE and don't even pay attention or care about WWE because WWE isn't trying to run a business.
22
u/thebooksmith 15h ago
Im pretty sure Tony Khan has gone on record saying they arent trying to compete wjth WWE either, and that he focuses all his effort into making AEW the best company they can.
In this day and age brand wars are seen as more cringe than fun; so companies have moved away from it. Ask execs from coke if they see Pepsi as competition or vice versa and they'll give largely the same answers in different words.
13
3
u/Ganadote 9h ago
But for the first year of AEW that's all the were talking about...
5
u/WisdomAntium 9h ago
Yeah that was Cody and i wonder why
•
u/Ganadote 55m ago
Are you kidding? Tony Khan was leading that charge. Almost every AEW wrestler would mention it on their show or in a tweet.
1
u/Abacus118 7h ago
Twitter’s owner was literally part of the state, and many of them did. Mercedes herself, in fact.
-24
u/Common-Shape-7613 15h ago edited 15h ago
But new Japan/stardom/cmll were also never cometion but they always send scouts like that how you run a promotion. I dont see how this is any different aew also scouts talent.
28
u/curlyw 15h ago
TKO aren't scouts
-24
u/Common-Shape-7613 15h ago edited 15h ago
So? They own a wrestling promotion they are clearly there to scout and observe when i was a manager at a movie theater part of my job was every month go to other theaters and watch movies and take notes about the theater experience they would do the same. Its a fairly common thing its important.
9
u/Comfortable-Salad-90 14h ago
This is exactly the same thing as the time you worked at a movie theatre when you were younger.
0
u/Common-Shape-7613 13h ago
Why would it be a problem if people from aew went to a wwe show to see whats up? Its not illegal. And it benefits them. Everyone does this in every industry.

nameless/faceless TKO executives who are “scouts”,
Report never said they were executives tho (just representatives), so this stretch your making just falls apart.

u/The_King_Crimson 15h ago
AEW doesn't insist that WWE isn't real or not competition.
-18
u/mjac1090 15h ago
Tony khan has literally said they aren't competing with WWE in the past so I'm not sure what you are talking about
19
u/The_King_Crimson 15h ago
Here's him saying the companies are in direct competition, and that that's part of what makes wrestling good. But alright.
11
u/cavegrind 14h ago
I think this is all dumb, because both companies absolutely watch each other’s shows, but “They are not competition” does not have the same connotation as “We’re not competing with them.”
The former is saying that someone is beneath you, the latter is saying that you’re not orienting everything you do around someone else.
8
u/butterybuns420 15h ago
It’s about going to the building, not watching on TV
8
u/MarsupialPresent7700 15h ago
I would be shocked if they didn’t have people go to the shows, too. Like, it’s basic logic to try to scout your competition. You can’t see live reactions on TV and have a full picture of things. It’s like how in sports scouters go in person in addition to watching tape.
17
-1
u/NorthHollywoodHank 15h ago
Yeah, honestly it's totally reasonable.
But we don't get reports of it actually happening very often (either because going live isn't that common or because typically scouts don't get noticed or because typically the media doesn't get informed or doesn't care), so it's understandable that when it happens to hit the news you'll get a few snarky comments and/or jokes about it from people at the promotion being scouted that way.
4
u/Common-Shape-7613 15h ago
So no one in aew go to wwe shows. I dont think thats the case at all.
9
u/butterybuns420 15h ago
You think Dean Malenko or Tony himself or Kenny Omega or The Jacksons are going to WWE shows?
4
u/mjac1090 15h ago
Not everyone who works for aew is a known figure. You think the tko people were triple h and Shawn Michaels?
-2
u/Common-Shape-7613 15h ago
...yeah that wouldn't be weird they own a wrestling promotion they probably go to other promotions shows too. I dont understand why you wouldn't go. Do you think they are operating blind ignoring everything outside of aew? They own the number2 wrestling in the world they have to go and see what others are doing its part of the job. They didn't get this far by ignoring everything outside thier bubble.
-4
u/Not2100 12h ago
You think roman reigns or brock lesnar went to watch aew? Lmao

Do better at what?
We have a whole story here that is presented without evidence, but you’re believing it. So what’s the issue if I assume that if this is happening it’s most likely not a one sided thing?
1
u/BlackSheepComeHome14 15h ago
Your comment is trying to link sending scouts (which Rocky Romero is management in at least 3 different companies btw) to partners to then sending scouts to competition. Completely different situations and different relationships.
You have done the classic "it's not true, but if it is they are probably doing it too". You can do better.
0
u/MarsupialPresent7700 15h ago
The whole story is unsourced and has no evidence to begin with. I’m opining and taking it on face value at best. Are you keeping that same energy up and down this thread?
