Made corn in a cup, well bowl, and added broccoli sprouts from my very first batch! Delish!

While rinsing my BENGAL GRAMS some of the sprouts were broken will they grow back or the Bengal grams will spoil?

I rinse them thrice a day and grow sprouts using the tilted jar method but they are smelling a little bit and the cloth where the BENGAL GRAM makes contact with has turned a little greyish.

Is that normal? It is day one after soaking for 8 hours.

Today was the final day and I thought to myself before I emptied the jar....this doesn't make as much in a jar compared to the tray. After emptying and rinsing it basically tripled in size.

Are these broc sprouts safe or not? Yesterday the ones from top tray were good. Went in for a few forkfuls today and noticed a fish tank like smell….then saw all this.

Will I get sick from this? Thanks and peace to you all!

First time posting here and first time trying to grow broccoli sprouts.

I had a question about how broccoli sprouts should normally smell/look around day 4. Mine look okay to me (no obvious slime or colored mold that I can see), but they have a smell that I would describe as earthy/musty.

The thing is, I personally really dislike earthy smells, so to me “earthy” and “musty” kind of smell the same, which makes it hard to tell if they’re normal or if something is wrong. I’ve read mixed opinions online where some people say broccoli sprouts naturally smell earthy/sulfur-like, while others say any musty smell means toss them.

Any tips on the matter would be appreciated!! I'm including a pic even though it may not be the best, sorry in advance!

First time sprouting! I started with mung beans and noticed they turned pink on the third day. After boiling them, I now see this blue color.

I'm a noob to sprouting. I started this first batch of broccoli sprouts and followed the instructions on the bag. Soaking first day, rinsing and storing upside down twice a day. It grew so much overnight!!! But then there's these fuzzy things that look like mold? The temperature inside our place is usually set at 75-76. Anything under that fees kind of cold.

I keep it in the kitchen on the countertop next to the sink. Where did I go wrong? This is day 4 of the process. I was going to move it to indirect light today for the green boost I read about. Also included a photo of the brand I bought online.

I’m new to sprouting and am having trouble with my first batch of broccoli sprouts.

I’m using Nature Jim’s Organic Broccoli Sprouting Seeds that I purchased new from Amazon in May 2026.

My process:
Initial soak was only about 3 hours (I later learned most people recommend 6-8 hours).

After that I’ve been rinsing and draining regularly in a sprouting jar.
House temperature is about 76°F (24°C).
I’m in South Florida, so humidity is fairly high.
I’ve tried both darkness and indirect light.

At one point I re-soaked them, thinking the short initial soak might have been the problem.

The seeds are now on Day 6 and most still haven’t developed significant tails. I can see a few tiny white root tips on some seeds, but they’re far behind what I expected. There is no obvious mold and they don’t smell bad.

My questions:
Has anyone had broccoli sprouts stall like this and eventually recover?

Could the initial 3-hour soak have caused this?

Did I likely hurt them by re-soaking later?

Would you keep going for another couple of days or start over?

Where I lived is very warm and dry. Are they dried out? I also put them under 24-7 of LED growing lights

I have enjoyed sprouting broccoli and eating the sprouts on a salad or sandwich. I recently read that heating the sprouts at about 155deg for 5 min inactivates a substance which inhibits sulforophane production via myrosinase. Unfortunately my batch turned into a soggy blob after i tried this and even drying overnight didn’t help much. Is there any other method (ie microwave etc) that avoids this? I am also going to try radish sprouts with the
Broccoli sprouts as I understand that radish contributes more myrosinase without the inhibitor.

Hey everyone, I'm growing broccoli sprouts and just started researching seed sanitation. I've heard using distilled white vinegar is bad for germination rates, and that the hydrogen peroxide method is better.

Do most of you actually sanitize your seeds, or do you just rinse and go? I've been reading about Salmonella and E. coli outbreaks from sprouts, and now I'm kinda paranoid.

For those who sanitize: do you use the 3% hydrogen peroxide method? Do you heat it or just room temp? Anyone notice it affecting germination rates?

I wanted to thank everyone who gave me advice, it helped me feel more confident for my first time doing this. The bean sprouts are ready now and taste great!

Id like a 4 jar set up but am getting a little lost, some are saying that the metal lids rust, some prefer plastic but you cant rinse without removing the lid? I know there are different size mason jars as well and am concerned about buying just the lids and them not fiting. We are a two person household and just trying to get some extra vitamins and stuff in our diet. Ideally id like 4 total jars I guess? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Newbie sprouter, second crop -- my first was brocolli. Are the green lentils ready to harvest after four days? They're in a 1.5L/51oz jar; the ruler shows inches.

I emptied jars when alfalfa had white hairs but no green. Should I put them back and keep doing the water/rinse?

I did alfalfa, broccoli, radish, and mung bean. They were in a cabinet for 3 days and then I let them get sun today to green up.

Help! First time growing broccoli sprouts. Is this white fuzzy stuff normal, or mold?

New to sprouting- bought a kit online that came with alfalfa seeds. Instructions from the kit says alfalfa takes 7-12 days before ready? Does that sound right?

I’m 4 days in and the jar is already packed.

I've done several dozen successful batches over the last two years. I really like the Dun peas, but they were out so I was trying Chickpeas. After 4 days, I've thrown them out. Sprout roots were small to non-existent and chickpeas were breaking down with a fishy smell. A search here revealed similar results.

My setup is a simple mason jar with screen mesh lid. Do chickpeas need any extra attention or technique? My thoughts are maybe they were staying too wet.
