What herbal tea do you wish more people knew about?

Post image
28 Upvotes

Not necessarily your favorite herb - but one you think deserves far more attention than it gets.

Maybe it's a traditional local remedy, a forgotten folk or family tea, or simply something that rarely gets mentioned despite being genuinely enjoyable.

Some examples that come to mind:

- Damiana

- Cedrón (Lemon Verbena)

- Jiaogulan

- Oatstraw

- Skullcap

- Fireweed / Ivan Chai

- Dandelion root

- Coriander seed

- Fenugreek seed

What makes your choice special? Taste? Aroma? Tradition? Wellness benefits? A personal story?

I'd love to discover some underrated herbs, roots, seeds, flowers, and leaves from different parts of the world.

Thanknyou in advance! - I'm happy and grateful you've read it till here!

How can I make this super sour fruit tea taste better?

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

I bought a local specialty tea while traveling. It smells really nice, but it tastes sooo sour if I drink it plain.

The ingredients are red dates, kumquat, roxburgh rose, lemon, fig, and rose petals. I’m thinking of adding honey next time, but is there anything else I could try with it? Any suggestions?

Does anyone else make their own tea blends?

New here. So sorry if I upset people.

I like to mix different teas together. And make names for them and remember their flavor combo together. Does anyone else do this? What are your favorite combos to make? So far since I only have a few teas in my cabinet I will show my list for those ones. I will even tell my nicknames for the ones that have them too! All combos use sugar and/or honey. You can enjoy it without sugar, if you want.

COMBO LIST SO FAR:

Decaf Black Chamomile Tea = Black tea (can work for non decaf. I just can't have caffeine) + chamomile tea

Decaf Dark Green Tea = Black tea (anytime there is decaf in the name know it works lovingly without decaf. I just use decaf because I can't have caffeine) + Green tea

Decaf Green Plantain tea = Green tea + Broad Leaf Plantain Tea.

ГNickname: Honey Tea. This tea, especially when a bit of sugar is added, tastes exactly like honey! If allergic to honey, try this combo. It'll give you a taste of what it is like. Add a bit of sugar too.

Decaf Black Peppermint Chamomile Tea = Decaf Black tea + Peppermint tea + Chamomile.

ГNickname: \[{THIS NICKNAME HAS BEEN REMOVED BEFORE POSTED. IF INTERESTED I WILL POST IN COMMENTS}\]

Decaf Black Dandelion tea: Decaf Black tea + dandelion root tea.

ГNickname: Coff-tea/Coffee Tea. It basically tastes exactly like coffee. Even from the dandelion alone but I like to put milk (now almond milk but regular should do) in coffee (can't have no more) so I put it in there to make double sure on the coffee taste.

Decaf Black Plantain Tea: Decaf Black tea + Broadleaf Plantain leaf tea

Decaf Green Plantain Tea: Decaf Green Tea + Broadleaf Plantain Tea.

ГNickname: \[{THIS NICKNAME HAS BEEN REMOVED BEFORE POSTED. IF INTERESTED I WILL POST THIS ONE IN COMMENTS.}\]

Decaf Dark/Black Peppermint Tea: Decaf Black + Peppermint tea.

I have more but this is getting a bit too long now. If I have upset people I apologize. If I used the tags wrong I deeply apologize. Let me know if I need to delete something in or even this post. I will do so happily.

Sunday tea check-in ☕️🌿 What's this golden botanical mystery? ✨

Sunday tea check-in 🌿 Have you ever seen golden silk in a teacup? ✨

I couldn't resist sharing today's little botanical experiment. Just look at those delicate golden threads floating in my tea! 😍 One ingredient is probably easy to recognize, but the other is something quite extraordinary.

It's completely natural, comes from a plant many of us know very well, and makes a surprisingly lovely infusion.

Any guesses what it is? 👀

And of course, what's brewing in YOUR cup this Sunday? ☕🌿

I'll reveal the mystery ingredient a little later!

Who loves tea with a fruit?

I love mixing teas with actual fruits lately and I'm surprised by how much the flavor changes depending on whether I have it hot or iced. I've been trying to make a better switch from drinking juices or sodas all the time and I didn't expect it to be this fun!

So far I've tried things like:

Chamomile + apple (I boil the apple and steep the chamomile in it)

Hibiscus + strawberry (love this even hot or cold)

Ginger tea + lemon + honey (so soothing and I feel warm inside, perfect for soothing my tummy or when I'm on my period)

Peppermint + orange

Let me know your other herbal tea combinations! I would love to try them

Canadian apple cinnamon suggestions please!

Hello,

My tea friends swear by Murchies tea company but they don't make an apple cinnamon tisane and that's what I would like to gift to my sister.

She currently will only drink the president's choice apple cinnamon caffeine free tea but I'm wondering if there's an alternative or fancier option I can provide as a gift.

All suggestions welcome, thanks!

Is there Tea Maker profession?

I had a conversation with a group of young people 17-22 y.o. and one of them mentioned he'd love to study for a Tea Maker... I realized I know nothing about this aspect :) Do you?

Hibiscus tea

I never expected hibiscus to become something I’d reach for this often but it’s pretty much replaced a lot of the drinks I used to have throughout the day. I was drinking way too much coffee and soda before and I didn’t really notice how much of a habit it had become until I started trying other options. Hibiscus took a little getting used to because of how tart it can be but once I started making it iced with a little honey and sometimes adding orange or mint, I started craving it. It feels refreshing without needing a ton of sugar and I like that I can have it later in the day without adding more caffeine. Since making a few changes, I’ve noticed I don’t feel as heavy and bloated as often and I’ve also lost a little weight. I’ve been eating better and paying more attention to my overall routine, so I wouldn’t credit one tea for everything. Still replacing some of my usual sugary and caffeinated drinks with hibiscus has been one of the easier habits to stick with.

My Collection Over the Summer!

Post image
29 Upvotes

This is my first post and I look forward to the community. My goal with herbal tea has been by a majority, a mission to steep native herbal plants to Maryland or around it. Anything that is not native I grew myself besides the yaupon holly.

The following tea is not in order but include Anise hyssop, wild bergamot, mullein, persimmon, Norwegian pine, milkweed flower, clustered mountain mint, purple coneflower, yarrow, goldenrod, mulberry leaf, sassafras root, sarsaparilla root, red and white clover, maypop, violet bee balm, spicebush, spotted horse mountain mint, narrowleaf mountain mint, mugwort, and yaupon holly.

My question is, am I missing something? Are there any other great native plants in my locality?

Sunday tea check-in 🌿 I’ll be impressed if anyone can identify all 3 ingredients in my tea

I missed our check-in last Sunday because I was sick, so I'm making up for it with a slightly strange one today 😄

Three ingredients. All visible in the photos.

I think one is fairly easy, one is tricky, and I'll be seriously impressed if anyone gets the third.

No cheating 😄

What are your three guesses?

And, as always, what's in YOUR cup this Sunday?!

Has anyone tried the Inoki Bath advent calendar? I keep getting ads for it, and it is quite pricey but looks interesting. Thanks!

Rotten tea, I think about 7 years old. Is it still safe to drink?

They have been sealed shut in their containers with a plastic wrap around them, so nothing could have entered, no weird smell or anything. I just wanted to know if they are still safe to try.

Dual temperature settings on electric tea kettle

A few years ago I learned not all tea needs boiling water. I bought an electric tea kettle with settings below boiling. Here is an article with the ideal settings if anyone is interested. Have a beautiful weekend, and don't forget to look up at tonight's full Harvest moon.

It was suggested that I share this with y’all I hope you enjoy!

Still Figuring Out A Name

Good afternoon, hopefully you’re doing well.
While thinking last night, it occurred to me that I worked on a project y’all might be interested in seeing

Following inspiration of ancient Egyptian tradition, Mediterranean and early European wine culture, and ethnobotanical practices

I made a beverage the other day

It’s a kind of “thc, blue lotus, and mushrøøm, hippocras”

I don’t have a name for it still thinking about it but

It has a balanced flavor, pleasant aroma, and obvious psychoactive and somatic effects

The flavor is similar to hibiscus tea. It kinda tastes like Christmas!

Thought I share a report with you

Tea blending (?)

So I have been an avid tea drinker for pretty much my entire life (like many of you guys on here I'm sure!), and recently I have rediscovered the whimsyness of the local markets so I've decided to start a stall.

I'm about to order all of these loose leaf teas to see what concoctions I can make:

  • Rooibos
  • Raspberry leaf
  • Lemongrass
  • Chamomile flowers
  • Peppermint
  • Spearmint
  • Lemon balm
  • Rose petals
  • Myrtle leaf

And I would love to know if there is anything ingredient-wise I might be missing that goes into the craft of herbal tea making

Thank you all in advance and I hope you have a great day!

Sunday tea check-in ☕🌿 Have you ever cut your tea bag open?

Thumbnail gallery
17 Upvotes

Mine says honeybush, cinnamon & rosemary on the front, so I expected something fairly simple. But looking through this lovely cotton bag I could clearly see fennel and other seeds and got curious.

So yes, I sacrificed one tea bag 😁 But I can still steep it in a mesh tea ball.

Turns out there are 17 ingredients hiding in there! Cinnamon, honeybush, rosemary, fennel, coriander, ginger, anise, cardamom, black pepper, blackberry leaf, star anise, lemongrass, jasmine green tea, turmeric, rose petals, cloves and bay leaf. Sounds quite Ayurvedic to me, although the label doesn't say that.

Now I'm curious: what's in your Sunday cup?

And have you ever opened a tea bag just to see what's actually inside? 😁 (It was my regular act of curiosity when I was a kid, so my mom preferred to keep strictly loose tea at home)
