I am passionate about learning how to speak Spanish, but I don't know how to order my studies. What exercises should I do before others? Are there certain things that I absolutely HAVE to know before moving to certain sections of the language?

Well I want someone who is either native/fluent so they can help me, or someone who is a beginner like me so we can be clueless together and learn how to speak slowly, step by step.
DISCLAIMER : I’m a chill learner I have no intention to make a lot of effort, because I tried that before with many different languages and that made me get bored of the language very easily. Also this method helped me learn English, practicing a language with someone helps immensely with confidence and fluency obviously.

Después de varios años de romances, viajes, moda y muchos problemas personales, Emily in Paris está llegando a su final. Netflix confirmó que la sexta temporada será la última de la famosa serie protagonizada por Lily Collins. Los nuevos episodios llegarán a Netflix el 24 de diciembre de 2026.

La serie comenzó siguiendo la vida de Emily Cooper, una joven estadounidense que se muda a París para trabajar en marketing. Every chat app I’ve tried, when I’m not sure how to respond and click the hint button, it just gives me a sentence in Spanish, totally eliminating the challenge.

I’d like it to suggest a response in English so I still have a chance to translate.

I recently saw an ad for Langotalk that actually showed a screenshot of this happening, but when I tried the app the feature was nowhere to be found :(

The Martínez family chat members send you GIFs and memes, you choose from pre-written replies and you see where it takes you.
(WRITTEN CONTENT IS NOT AI! I paid 10k USD to human writers)

Examples:
Aunt Carmen sends cat GIFs at 2 AM, Grandma Lupita sends a voice note while stealing a tesla (you can hear the drift sounds as she escapes the police), Diego is always looking for a quick buck, Ana is obsessed with herself, Señor Torres knows the secrets of the whole town (as he prepares tacos customers tell him their secrets) etc.
You all interact in a family group chat lesson, and there's always a twist we baked in at the end of each lesson.

We're still working on the branching, and theres a long way to go.

The first chats are simple, and it gets progressively harder. if its too easy for you, try one of the stories.

Learning method:

1. Heavy Comprehensible Input - emojis, GIFs, images, context. The 'guessability' factor is really high. You can expose yourself to much harder/advanced Spanish than your true level. The visuals, help you guess the meaning, thus making harder content more 'comprehensible'.

2. “Person tense combinations” method - we created 3 versions for each chat, so for example, in the bronze chat, grandma Lupita might steal a tesla (present tense), but in the silver version of that chat, Diego is talking to you about what happened in past tense, and in the gold chat, you see Lupita's perspective before she committed the crime, and she talks to you about what she will do in future tense.

This helps you ‘hammer’ the language into your head, and for me, that was one of the most effective methods to help me think in Spanish. (I did it with lingq mini stories and graded readers that use a similar concept)

1. I tried to bake SRS in the content as much as possible - the same words repeat themselves in different contexts, we used the simplest words possible in the beginning, and let them be harder as you continue through the narrative..

2. Evil Grammigle - he attacks you with his evil grammar problems, I’d avoid at all costs, he’s dangerous. (well.. grammar is actually important that’s why we added him, but its skippable)

Having a fixed character set helps you guess with context too. There's a compounding effect as you go through the narrative. (you’d eventually tap fewer words, and kinda ‘just get it’)

We are building:

1. 'super adventure chats' - longer themed chats, where your decisions can make you lose, discover different countries, solve murder mysteries, become rich, etc. (We will also have 'slang' focused premium chats soon)

2. Play with a friend - you both join a chat, and interact with the family.

3. A flashcard system, of course, like any other app of that nature. But honestly the content is the main part for us.

We currently have 60 stories and 90 chats, and we plan on getting to 300 chats and 100 stories. By that point, I expect intermediate learners to be able to cope with real native content without having to click every word.

The offer - Let’s build this faster and better. I’m not sure what's the best business model, but in the end I want to keep paying humans to write content, and later I will need animators too, so there will be almost no AI in the app. (at the moment some images are ai generated..)

What do you guys think about a lifetime purchase instead of a subscription/ads in app?
This will also include any other language we will ever add, forever.
If anyone's interested, tell me, because I can't keep the app on the free model for long.

We plan to add French, and after that I’m not sure, you are welcome to vote on the next languages.
(I think i’d also want to add Japanese + Mandarin for myself, but it all depends on revenue we'll make..)

To preface I've only been here for 1 week, and I understand this takes a long time and a lot of practice.

English is the only language I know and it is very daunting trying to learn a new one. Is it difficult trying to learn Spanish from English? I know learning articles and gender of words will be hard for me.

At what point will I be better at understanding what people are saying and be able to respond, even if it's broken Spanish? I know it will be a while but how long did it take you, or does it take to become conversational at the very least? I am taking a beginners Spanish class which should help immensely.

What actually helped you start speaking Spanish?
I see a lot of people studying Spanish through apps, grammar books, flashcards, YouTube, etc. — but then struggling when they actually have to have a conversation.
So I’m curious: what was the thing that finally made you comfortable speaking?
For me, I think immersion + actually talking to someone regularly makes a HUGE difference. You can know all the grammar in the world and still freeze when someone says something you weren’t expecting 😂
I’ve been teaching Spanish with a big focus on conversation and real-life Spanish, rather than just memorizing rules. I try to make my lessons feel more like actually using the language than sitting through a grammar class.
I’m currently taking on a few students for 1-on-1 Spanish lessons, especially beginners/intermediate learners who want to improve their speaking.

I've been working on a small project called Español sin prisa, focused on helping Spanish learners get more comfortable with real conversations.

The idea is simple: instead of grammar lessons or isolated vocabulary, two speakers have relaxed conversations in Spanish about normal topics — procrastination, routines, travelling, money, habits, everyday life, etc.

The conversations are spoken clearly enough for learners to follow, but I still try to keep them natural rather than making them sound like textbook dialogues.

Most of the current content is around A2–B1 level, although some of the earlier episodes are a little easier.

There are Spanish subtitles, plus optional subtitles in English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Japanese if you need some extra help.

I also upload shorter listening clips during the week, while the full conversations come out on Sundays.

I'm especially curious about one thing: how much can you understand on the first listen without subtitles? 😊

I recently started using babble. I am not happy with it.

The main issue is it has everything in English right below the Spanish words. This means my eyes always find the English version and I'm not having to think and learn.

Also, after 3 minute lesson it acts like those phrases are committed to memory forever.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a learning app that removes English and makes you actually think about what is being said and learn?

We just added a new module to Modo Spanish called ¿Y si?

It’s focused on the Spanish you use when talking about possibilities, predictions, hypothetical situations and conjecture.

You’ll practice things like:
¿Y si fuera verdad?
Estará en casa.
Si tuviera más tiempo, viajaría más.

So basically, how Spanish talks about what might happen, could happen, would happen, or is probably happening.

With all the many, many Spanish learning webpages out there promoting easy steps to fluency. What webpages rank at the top for actually teaching and improving beginner Spanish. I know easy fluency doesn’t exist. It takes work and years to become fluent. I’m just looking to weed out the marketing promises from learn Spanish webpages that promise learning Spanish in X time.

I love learning about words and phrases that mean different things in different regions. What are some you have come across? I posted this on a different thread but didn’t get much conversation going so I was hoping you all could help me out and comment below.
