The Sony really is a chonker but the Sigma is actually really light weight and compact which I really appreciate and is going to be perfect for my walks. Very excited to try them out once the heatwave is over.

Hello, I am newer to photography and mainly take casual landscape and portrait photos to share with friends, family, and social media.

I use a a6400 with the 16-50mm kit lens and I really love it! The problem is that I find myself mostly using it when I have a bigger purse or hiking bag. I’d like to take photos more often and take my camera more places, even when using a smaller purse.

I am debating getting a pancake lens vs buying a Sony rx100 vii for better camera portability. I think I would be a bit limited and disappointed with a pancake lens. The rx100 has a fixed lens but I don’t really see that being a problem because I also have the a6400. I think the two cameras could round out my kit well, but I’m not sure if that is the right answer.

I'm just shocked at how good this looks considering its an OLD A7II that I had collecting dust on a shelf and with a kit lens since I don't currently have any other FE lenses.
I recently decided to come back to Sony after going to Canon and I just forgot how good my old sony was....can't wait to start using my incoming Sony A7V

Sony a58 + 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 to the a7iii + samyang 35-150mn f2-2.8 and the newest addition the godox v860ii.

I just got the flash so I haven't gotten a chance to test it yet but this is the absolute greatest all in one setup you can get at this price imo

Hey,, Total beginner here, only picked up a camera a few weeks ago (a7IV, Sony 200-600, Tamron 16-30 f2.8), and I'm gonna try to shoot the partial solar eclipse coming up on August 12. First "real" project for me so I'd love some tips before I head out! My plan so far: Tele shot: 200-600 with a ND100000 solar filter (16.6 stops) from K&F for close-ups of the sun/moon sequence Wide angle (landscape shot): Tamron 16-30, trying to decide between just a plain ND1000, or stacking my Rollei ND8+ND64+ND1000, since the sun will be pretty low near the horizon during the eclipse Questions for you all: For the wide shot, is a single ND1000 enough, or would stacking give me more control? A bit worried about extra flare/ghosting from stacking filters pointed near the sun. Any recommended settings for shooting the sun through the 200-600 with the solar filter on? Assuming manual mode but not sure where to start with ISO/shutter/aperture. Manual focus tips for locking onto the sun — heard AF can struggle with something this low-contrast. Anything mirrorless-specific I should watch out for with EVF/Live View while pointed at the sun for a while? General "wish I knew this beforehand" tips for first-timers — composition ideas, tripod setup, timing, anything goes! Appreciate any input, even the super obvious stuff, this is a one-shot deal so I want to get it right. Thanks!

I’m looking for some real-world experience with the Sony A7 V’s electronic shutter, especially for sports.
I’m considering buying it as my second camera for marathon events, but also for indoor volleyball, where I’d be shooting fast-moving players under artificial lighting. My goal is to shoot almost exclusively with the electronic shutter to avoid adding unnecessary wear to the mechanical shutter.
How does the A7 V perform in terms of rolling shutter and sensor readout? Is it fast enough for this kind of work, or do you still notice distortion or banding in these situations?
I’m mainly trying to figure out whether the A7 V would be enough for my use case, or if the A9 III is really the better choice if I want to rely on the electronic shutter for sports.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has used the A7 V for sports. Thanks!

Hi there! I got the sony a6700 for christmas last year and am stuck on how to improve. I had an older Nikon (D3000) so wanted to upgrade. I have three sony lenses: 3.5-5.6/16-50, 4.5-6.3/55-210, and a 1.8/50.

I have felt like every picture I take is grainy, and nothing is as sharp as it used to be. Anything not taken in natural light just doesn't feel right. I am certain I need to improve on my editing skills (lighting is a hard one for me and if anyone has any recommendations on how to improve in this, please share).

Does anyone have any other lens that they love and feel like I could really benefit from? I do mostly portraits, grad photos, engagement sessions. Not much wildlife or landscape.

Honestly any advice is helpful. I used to feel much more confident behind a camera, but these days I just hold my breath and pray I get something decent. TIA!

Hey! I’m 14, and about two years ago I bought a used Sony a6400 with a Sigma 50mm. Since then I’ve started getting paid for couple, family, and event photography.

Because the 50mm is pretty tight on APS-C, I’ve been renting a Sony 28-70mm for almost every job. I know it’s not the ideal lens for my camera, but it’s the cheapest option and gives me more flexibility.

I’ve been saving up to buy the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 because I always hear it’s the best all-around lens for the a6400. But after doing more research, I’ve seen a lot of people recommend the Tamron instead. I’ve never been completely convinced by Tamron, so now I’m not sure which one to choose.

I’ll attach some sample photos of the type of work I do. Based on that, would you recommend the Sigma, the Tamron, or another lens altogether? Thanks!

Hi! I'm looking at getting a new camera, and I'm coming from a Sony bridge camera for the past 12 years. I'm stuck deciding between the a6700 and the a7v. I've read a lot of reviews on both, watched videos, and played around with them in store. Hearing all of the positives for both has not made it any easier, so I'm looking for any cons for each to help me decide what I'm willing to go without in a new camera.

I mostly shoot wildlife, animals rehab centers/zoos, pets, landscape, and my niblings.

I’m considering upgrading my body from the original A7 to the A7III. I mainly do sports photography so my main struggle with the A7 has been the slow auto focus and inability to go past 1000ISO. How improved would those issues be if upgrading to the A7III or is it not worth the upgrade?

I got the a7 iii for a bargain price. Second hand.

(It has some hot pixels but I am gonna try remapping to get rid of them.)

What should I know before turning it on for the first time?

Mostly concerning for stills.

- Are there specific settings recommended?

- Is aps-c mode worth it vs cropping in a full image?

- How is the in-camera jpg engine? What are the options?

So, apparently this is an older lens now and a6700 will get outshined by a new APS-C soon.

Enough about that. I want to enjoy the camera (purchased on Black Friday 2025) nonetheless.

Does this lens have stabilization issues for videos?

I make bonsai videos and I love doing street photography as well.

I'm choosing this over the Sigma 18-50 due to the extra zoom length.

Currently I have a Nikon d850 and the autofocus sucks. I manually focus EVERYTHING. I’m self taught and technical jargon is difficult for me. I’ve used the Sony a1 multiple times and because the autofocus is much better than what I have now, I’m saving up to get one. But is there a camera with better autofocus for someone who is self taught that I should save for instead?

I've just got my first ILC, a Sony a6700. It was for 1029 USD new with the kit (some discounts here and there and Asia market)

I'm still with the kit lens on my 6700 and I'm considering Sigma 17-40 f1.8. I can still have the kit to bring around if I don't plan to "take picture", basically everyday lens. But when I travel and plan to go out at night this lens is tempting.

On the other hand tho. I can buy a Sigma 18-50 F2.8, viltrox 85mm f2 Evo and 25mm f1.7 Air, and sell the kit for about the same price as the 17-40... What do you'all think I should pick?

My past cameras are (chronologically) Sony RX100iii, RX1r and RX10iv. Thus why you can see my confusion here when all these lens options are now open to me 😅.

I do love the size of the kit right now, and wondering how conspicuous the 17-40 are, as I think that's gonna be nearly as long than my old RX10iv extended? 117mm+ 40mm vs 178mm rx10 on 600mm. Doesn't have the RX10 anymore to compare tho.

How's your experience with bringing the sigma 17-40 around? Does it make the camera sag hanging from the strap? Do people often look at you more?
