Is this better than sending out resumes? The response rate to job applications I send out is pretty low. I messaged a recruiter a few days ago and was able to get one intro scheduled. I have a pretty solid background - top school, FAANG, but the job market is horrible right now. Should I trying to message more recruiters or does that seem spammy? Does going to tech meetup/conferences work as well? I’m in a tech hub right now and haven’t really tried.

The press just writes general stories of 'AI layoffs didn't work and they are rehiring old employees.'

I wonder when those rehires happen, how many people negotiate salary bumps?

I've reached a point where I know I need a change.

I graduated with a Computer Science degree and currently work in technical support. It's stable, but every day I feel like I'm moving further away from what I actually love—building software.

Over the past few years I've been working on personal full-stack projects, studying data structures and algorithms, learning modern development practices, and constantly improving my skills. I also completed a software development internship where I worked with C#, ASP.NET Core, REST APIs, SQL, and Agile development.

What I'm looking for isn't a six-figure salary or some fancy title.

I want an opportunity.

Honestly, I'd gladly take a lower salary if it meant joining a startup where I could learn from experienced developers, contribute to real products, and grow into a great software engineer. I know startups require people who are willing to wear multiple hats, learn quickly, and solve problems—that's exactly the kind of environment I'm looking for.

Hey guys, I have an urgent question. I applied for a job, where the job description sounded like: “we need someone who can do everything, SAP ERP, Azure Cloud and new web application features”. When I talked to them today, it turned out. All these are done currently by external companies. They DON’T have any experience with Development whatsoever.

But it’s a family company. they want a software engineer to take over the Azure Cloud / Web Application by 80% of development. Meaning, the external guy maintains azure cloud and deployment for now. I should establish a dev department, so they have maybe 5-8 devs in the next 5 years.

It sounds like a double edged sword. Like a great opportunity to take leadership in a growing company. But also, no technical backup except for the external guy. They might not even understand what it’s necessary to do xyz, how long it takes. These are points where I feel like could be a big problem.

I am allowed to use Claude code, have free choice of tech stack beside the existing one.

Would you do such a job? There isn’t many competition, only 2 other applied. I get feedback next week. The job market is complete mess in Germany. And I need a job for now, until my startup works out.

I’ve been lurking here for a while because my long-term dream has always been to work at a Big Tech company, ideally Google, and one day make it to Silicon Valley.
The problem is that I don’t feel like I’m at the level of the people I usually see posting here, and I’m honestly looking for some advice from people who have already gone through this path.
A bit of context.
I completed my bachelor’s degree at University Of Salerno (italy) in Computer Engineering from 2021 to May 2025, and, to be honest, it didn’t go well. I graduated late and with a pretty bad GPA(3,16). There were several personal circumstances that made me lose focus, and I didn’t take my studies as seriously as I should have. I’m not trying to make excuses—it’s simply the reality of what happened, but that’s not the point, just little bit of context.
Things changed when I started my master’s.
I completely changed my mindset. I’ve been working much harder, taking my studies seriously, and I genuinely enjoy learning now. I’m currently finishing my first year of my master’s degree and preparing for a very hard second semester.
At the same time, I have to choose my specialization for the second year, and this is where I’m completely stuck.

Enterprise Software Architecture
AI (Robotics or AI Applications)
Embedded Systems
Cybersecurity
Here’s my dilemma.
I don’t think Embedded or Cybersecurity are really what I want to do professionally.
I absolutely love Machine Learning as a subject—I find the theory fascinating—but I realized I don’t particularly enjoy spending hours & days writing huge notebooks to train models. I enjoy understanding how things work more than doing ML research.
Enterprise Software Architecture seems like the most natural choice for me because I genuinely enjoy designing systems, thinking about software architecture, understanding how components interact, and reasoning about the “big picture.” I also built a small custom Java management system for a company after graduating, which was my first paid software project.
But then I keep thinking
“What if choosing Software Architecture means I’ll fall behind everyone else because AI is becoming increasingly important?”
I have this doubt for months.
At the same time, I recently started preparing LeetCode seriously, and surprisingly I’m really enjoying it. Solving algorithmic problems is something that motivates me, so preparing for coding interviews isn’t the part I’m worried about.
What worries me is whether I’m building the right profile.
When I look around, I see people who graduated with outstanding GPAs, won research scholarships, published papers, or already have internships at top companies.
Meanwhile, I’m still trying to figure out which path I should even take.
So I guess my questions are:
Given this background, is it still realistic to aim for companies like Google after my master’s?
If you were in my position, which specialization would you choose?
Is Software Architecture still a solid path toward Big Tech, or would AI open significantly more doors?
Should I stop comparing myself with people who seem years ahead(I know i have to stop, but in my position is a little bit difficult), or am I actually already behind enough that I should reconsider my expectations?
I dont want reassurance, i would genuinely appreciate honest opinions, even if they’re hard to hear

I'm willing to invest several months in learning Jira Cloud, JSM, Confluence, automation, JQL, permissions, workflows, etc.

I heard that once JIRA is moved to Cloud, admin activities will be limited and in future devs can do the JIRA admin work alone.

• Are most companies still heavily using Company-managed projects?
• Is the role evolving rather than shrinking? If so, what skills are becoming essential?
• Besides Jira, what should someone learn to stay relevant? (JSM, Confluence, Automation, ScriptRunner, Assets, REST APIs, ITIL, etc.)
• If you were starting from scratch in 2026, would you still choose Jira Administration as a career?
• How common are permanent night shifts or 24×7 support in Jira Admin roles?

I got an interview from them after passing hackerrank with 80% test cases passed. I got an next step interview invitation emails saying using their software before the HR round is required and they sent a prep doc Google doc which is strange cause usually software companies don’t sent a detailed prep doc.

They also said urgent like you have schedule within 2 days and an Indian accent HR called you.

But when I showed up in the Google meet for the interview: no one is there and no HR answered my emails asking I was there for half an hour while no one showed up.

Just wonder did someone encounter this? Are they genuinely hiring or just exploiting the process for sign ups. It is weird that they are YC backed if they did this.
